Wonderful experience from beginning to end. Never felt rushed, service was friendly and attentive and food was excellent. Will definitely go back.
Excellent food. Nice greeting and waitstaff. A bit noisy but we very much enjoyed the evening.
Brunch. It is what it is. Brunch is not an accurate assessment of what a chef can do. It's a crowd pleaser. I would be happy to come back and see what happens with dinner. Yes, I know this is a tavern. But some are more welcoming than others.
I’ll try it one more time - they have been excellent in the past. This time was a miss 🙁
Lovely to sit and have a meal and chat and catch up.
Lovely neighborhood restaurant. The chicken sandwich is just as good as you’ve heard. Outstanding cocktails.
excellent atmosphere, cool bar, attentive service, delightful food
Still miss Quest but Ox Bow Tavern is now becoming our go to neighborhood place. Consistently good food, no attitude & nice ambiance.
I go there a lot, like the food and the wait staff is wonderful. Long Bar is a blessing!
I'm a former 20year Manhattan resident and during my tenure in the city, I was a fan of Chef Valenti's previous restaurants, so I chose this spot because of him. We wanted a casual room with great food for an early dinner after a Broadway matinee, then back to CT. The wine selection was wonderful, the terrific server was very courteous by checking with us on how quickly (or leisurely) we'd like to proceed. The food was very tasty and satisfying - and I chose both healthy and indulgent courses, so it's a menu that will please a multitude of palates. If I still lived in the city, I'd consider myself fortunate if this were my neighborhood tavern.
UWS is so lucky to have Oxbow Tavern in our midst! Great wait staff, of course good kitchen, and the only fault with the menu is that it's so hard to make a choice, not just order most of it! For brunch, I decided on the omelet and arugula salad plus a decaf cappuccino and loved every bite and sip. Great salad dressing, and fresh contrast to the omelet! I'm on my way back in an instant....
A cheery and fun neighborhood restaurant. The menu, however, is a bit of a stretch. Odd offerings. We always go for the hamburger which is good.
Don’t go for late Brunch!!
We had heard great things of the Oxbow Tavern and liked Ouest his previously place but were very disappointed. Initial service was poor and server was uninterested (she heard our English accents and assumed we were tourists). My wife had the chicken sandwich which she said she could have done better and Citeralla’s does. My Tuna nicoise was fine but we were in and out in an hour. Will not be be going back.
Service was excellent. No pressure. The hostess was very accommodating as our first table was too noisy. She was able to reseat us in a quieter area of the restaurant.
This restaurant is a new discovery for me—a great find. I have now had lunch there twice and will definitely come back. The country salad is delicious. The service is prompt and unobtrusive.
The food was good but a bit expensive for what they offered. I got the cod partially because I thought it came with cauliflower and a chickpea dish but it was just cod On top of a yummy truffle sauce. Other entrees were less expensive but had no sides, which were $9 each. Wait staff was great. The host was chilly though.
Initially bad service. Improved after we moved tables. Poor value for price paid.
Great food and calm bistro atmosphere
Service was excellent! Thank you, Daniel
I would NOT recommend this place to anyone for any reason. The food is barely mediocre. The service is inattentive. The hamburger arrived cold & overcooked. It took 15 minutes to get another warm & overcooked one. The wine, which was ordered when the burger was sent back, did not arrive until the new burger was more than half eaten. We live in the neighborhood and really liked his other restaurants, but we will not be back to this one.
Hello nkatt, We’re really sorry to hear that your experience wasn’t up to our standards. We think it’s unacceptable. Thank you for trying Oxbow out, and if you ever return, please ask for a manager and remind us about this; we’ll make sure to take care of you.
The pots de creme was out of this world, and service was fantastic as always.
Wonderful! We hope to see you again soon.
good neighborhood place; buzzy; very decent food. Will go back!
My first lunch at Oxbow was a pleasant surprise. We were greeted at the door by Mr Valenti himself. I’d been there for dinner several times which was excellent. Lunch was delicious. We ordered the seafood salad and the French 75 cocktail... finished with cheesecake. Service was excellent and the quieter afternoon ambience extremely relaxing and conducive to conversation. I’d recommend lunch at Oxbow Tavern highly
Better than I expected. Food was solid and service competent and friendly. I will come back and recommend. I had the duck breast which was perfectly cooked. The salmon and NY streak were also great. Creamer spinach was perfect. I’d pass on the gnocchi.
Utterly uninspired food in noisy old bar. Don’t be fooled into thinking that it’s become a real restaurant.
Mediocre French food in pretty restaurant. It’s almost the same as the previous restaurant in its place cafe talullah before that place went downhill to the unstable. Menu almost the same as well. Oxbow is best suited to a drink at the bar and an appetizer.
Food is really excellent, a rarity among restaurants on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, especially after Telepan and Picholine closed a few years ago. The bistro approach of Oxbow Tavern certainly makes economic sense. The only issue I have is that the restaurant can get very loud because the tables are close together and there is no sound insulation to dampen sound. Go for the food, but not if you want a quiet place to talk.
Good food and good service. Nice quiet ambiance
Tom Valenti never fails to create sumptuous food in a comfortable yet dynamic setting.
Outstanding lamb shanks. Wish they offered them more regularly.
Terrific as usual!!! Tom Valenti is a treasure and maintains an A+++ in hospitality and delicious cuisine.
Delicious food but SO expensive for UWSiders just out for a family celebration.
Hello ElizabethK, We were so happy you joined us--thank you. If this interests you, we actually have a very decent happy hour every day from 3--7p.m. (Mondays 5--7p.m.); I think it’s the best deal in this neighborhood, with great options for food and drink. We also have a prix fixe from 5--6:30 which is also kind of a steal. We’d love to see you again if the occasion arises!
So happy to find such a wonderful restaurant on the UWS! I will be coming here often! The food was delicious, the service was lovely, the room is perfectly nice visually and we could actually have a conversation! This is a neighborhood gem!
Poor service and seem to still be in training mode, good menu but lacking in execution. Give them 3-6 months to get it running (assuming they're still around then).
Difficult to find anything we wanted to eat on the menu, though plain grilled meats are available. Not much for vegetarians and nothing for a vegan.
Expensive and retro (both decor and food), noisy and disappointing
I typically sit at the bar and have a meal and beverage there--service, food, etc., excellent. This is the 2nd time that I have booked a table (there were 3 of us), we were seated promptly - we ordered our meals which arrived in a timely manner with the exception of one side dish for the table to share; we repeatedly asked our server where this dish was and I finally approached the "man in the suit" who clearly was managing the restaurant and he got involved and then the side dish finally arrived - but we had finished our meals! They did not charge us. I had a similar situation the last time I sat at a table there. So, I think they need to work on coordinating arrivals of items ordered.
Everything was perfect. Started with the chicken liver mousse (enough for the table), which was better than any foie gras I've ever had. They had a glazed pork chop special that was simply the best pork I've ever had, and an excellent coq au vin and duck breast.
This is a very nice tavern- the menu is well conceived, the cooking is precise and attentive, the staff efficient and friendly without being intrusive and the atmosphere is perfect for this kind of place. Amazingly, there is no loud music, just the din of people talking and having a good time. This is an adult restaurant in the best sense of the word- the cooking and presentation are just right, not stodgy but also not gimmicky. If I lived near by I would be a regular.
Window seats were available and got stuck in the middle, when other couples came in they were offered options, we weren’t
