This is the third time I have visited OxBow Tavern and am thrilled it is in the neighborhood. While the font of house staff was lovely, our server was less than. Her surly attitude, inattentiveness and briskness was not pleasant. Perhaps she was having a bad night, but we didn't want to!
Great new addition to the neighborhood. $23 for a burger a bit steep but the food is very good, RIP Ouest, and the service friendly and efficient.
Pleasantly surprised at this find. We had tickets for Lincoln Centre and had a problem getting a reservation anywhere near Lincoln Centre at 6 o’clock so I went onto Yelp and found the Oxbow Tavern. The service was terrific my sister and I had burgers and we had no complaints they were perfectly cooked and tasted great. Nice ambience and not so noisy that you can’t hear the person across the table from you speaking to you. I would definitely return.
We had a lovely meal. The appetizers and entrees were very well prepared. We had the mushroom tart flambe app. and Coque au vin and their House hamburger for entrees and apple tart dessert and chocolate mousse - all delicious. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Nice wine selection and selection of specialty drinks. I am very pleased to have this as an addition to the Upper West Side. I heartily recommend this Tom Valenti restaurant. I look forward to checking out lunch or brunch.
Loved everything- the staff is fabulous!
Freezing cold and a bit too dark. No decent wine by the glass and wine list has a bunch of unknown wines. Appetizers are ho-hum but we loved the filet with bernaise sauce as our main course.
Overall the experience was underwhelming. I would go back here but only if I was not paying.
Wonderful service and delicious food.
We are grateful for the addition to the neighborhood!
We will be back!
Ask for a special ginger cucumber drink. Yum!
Overpriced for mediocre food and poor service.
Loved my Manhattan cocktail! And coq au vin was good, too. Thanks
Really good food. Would love some more variety and specials. Love the seared tuna with sumac. Odd item: Mushroom Tart Flambee is not a tart and not flambee -- it's basically a flatbread topped with a smattering of mushrooms. It was good/ok, but not stellar and it was misleading and definitely not worth its price. It is noisy and many of the tables are WAY too close together for comfort. We ended up sitting at bar because our reserved table made us feel like packed sardines and involved us in our flanking neighboring tables' conversations more than our own.
we were very disappointed with the service. It took 50 minutes to get our burgers. The server explained it away by saying that "medium well" took longer. When we inquired, we were told that the burgers were being plated, but it took another 5-10 minutes for them to arrive. There are many restaurants in the neighborhood. Not sure we will return to this one.
Great ambiance and food was excellent! I especially enjoyed the simply grilled menu, and the duck was out of this world.
Upscale, urban comfort food. Try the fried chicken sandwich, the Ragusa and rock shrimp appetizer. Friendly, attentive service. Tightly edited, thoughtful, well-priced wine list. All in a cozy brasserie setting.
Excellent food. Entrance is not at all accessible for older guests. Needs ramp or rail. Step height is awkward, bordering on dangerous.
FOR YOUR INFO ONLY, NOT FOR PUBLICATION It was New Years Eve. A week or so after I made a reservation I was called by the restaurant to say that they were changing the menu that night to a special prix fixe at $145. It was too late to find another place from among our favorites, so we went ahead. The salad was interesting, the cauliflower soup ok, the pasta inedible, and the steak over cooked (twice! I sent the first one back, but the second was no better). Certainly did not meet expectations so the price was RIDICULOUS. Oh, they never did deliver the glass of champagne that was included in the price.
Typical Upper East Side eatery
Sat at one of the worst tables in the house. I asked to be moved. We were not moved until my husband asked. Service just ok. I love the food but find when tourist season, service falls off. A little disappointed.
I wasn't sure we were going to be able to eat here. I made a 6pm reservation and the hostess gave me a hard time about needing a high chair for my daughter. She seemed annoyed that I brought a child and told me that I was bothering the customers with my stroller when I was standing at the entrance (there was no where else to stand and it was freezing outside). (in case the restaurant manager reads this - she was a middle aged blond woman). I had guests in town and this was the only reservation I could get. Then she tried to sit me at a table in the bar area in the middle of people standing at the bar. I asked to be moved to a table by the window that was out of the way. She seemed to go out of her way to try to get me to leave. I would have if I had any other options. Once we sat down, the waiter was very nice and the food was good. The manager was very nice and he helped me with my stroller when we were leaving.
We went for dinner, before a play at Lincoln Center and brought our 18 year old son. We were all happy with the available menu choices, the energy in the restaurant, and the casual, friendly atmosphere. And the coq au vin was amazing.
Pleasant, popular UWS bistro. Casual ambiance. Food is outstanding ( steak tartar, endive salad, tuna w chickpea puree, halibut w cauliflower puree, lobster gnocchi)! Service is very pleasant but unfortunately bumbling and amateurish. Given price points of menu items service staff needs significant improvement and training. Wine list is pretty broad, varied, excellently curated, and well priced.
The food was very salty and had to be sent back. The restaurant did offer an alternative which was unattractive, mushy and tasteless. The restaurant is unattractive. The waiter was nice and his service was fine.
For the dull culinary scene of the UWS Oxbow is not bad. We very much liked the service, appetizers and cocktails. Entrees (seared tuna and duck gizzards) at a price range of $30+ were mediocre if not bad, and definitely unoriginal. Most tables are crowded together so little privacy (we asked to move to a side table and were obliged). Overall not enough value for the price.
The staff was very accommodating with my vegan son, specially preparing him a veggie gnocchi which he thought was the best! The rest of us enjoyed the fish, halibut and yellowtail, very well prepared. We will be back.
Consistency of quality is the key. Christmas Day. Once again. Service. Wine. Food. Great.
We found our neighbors having dinner at the next table having dinner with the Boss. I go there because the serve tripe. This is the 4th restaurant at that that location. It is the best one yet.
Excellent food and service as usual!
Wanted a light dinner before the Opera - had a glass of an excellent Tempranillo and the best French onion soup I have had outside of Paris. Will definitely return as this restaurant not only serves delicious food but is very convenient to Lincoln Center where I have an opera series and a ballet series. Pleasant ambiance and looked like a lively Happy Hour at the bar - also very nice employees and clientele. A win-win overall.
The absolutely perfect place for an elegant upper west side lunch. If you found Oxbow too loud in the evening, their lunch is the answer. And the food is spectacular.
For a late midweek lunch service was very slow. We had to track down the waiter multiple times. The food was average. French onion soup was the highlight
Excellent burgers and crispy chicken sandwich. Nice atmosphere. Close to Lincoln Center.
Really excited about the new addition to the UWS, sadly this was a let down. Service was awful and there were some sanitary concerns on one of the dishes. Management was weak in resolving basic issues. A let down to say the least but there are other places in the area I would go to over this one.
Saturday brunch and it was busy and noisy. As I sat down I noticed my water glass had lipstick on it.
Our server was friendly but it took quite a while to find someone to refill my water glass.
Speaking of waiting...it took 45 minutes for brunch to arrive after we ordered.
The frisée salad with poached egg was ok.
I ordered the whitefish salad which was way out of proportion. Chef should know better than to serve a big scoop of whitefish salad with three tiny soggy toast points and a couple of bits of pickled beets. Whitefish is not something to eat by the forkful by itself. And the horseradish didn’t show up on my plate.
This area needs a good restaurant.
What a shame
The service is exceptional. It stands out in the UWS with veteran servers who understand and like their craft. This is our 3rd time visiting. Hav had simply grilled fish twice and had the chicken. The Canadian Salmon simply grilled is a good pick. A good neighborhood place and friendly service. Glass walls brig in light during the day can increase the noise a bit in the evening when full.
Welcome addition to the 'hood. Food (halibut, coq au vin, chicken sand.) delicious. Service attentive but never intrusive. Very good wine, beer selection. Ambience friendly. Noise level much too 'energetic' for us on a Thurs. at 6 pm......will happily return at a quieter time.
Waitress was rough around the edges. The French bistro dishes were average, considering the chef's background. The decor was unmemorable. With so many choices in Manhattan, I don't know if I'd go back.
The food was good and everything very fresh-especially the salad nicoise. Service was a little slow. No bread offered at tables. Nice atmosphere.
Consistently average. My partner does enjoy their fried chicken sandwich which is why we come every month or couple of months. There is nothing that stands out to me but there is nothing horribly offensive about the food or service.
The meals are consistently good but there is no over the top exceptional OMG moment for me with Oxbow.
So yes dine here and no it probably will not become your food mecca.
Terrific all around. The folks running this place are on top of everything, and ensure that the service is top-notch, even when the place is packed. The food didn't disappoint and vibe is buzzing.
This is a decent neighborhood choice for an older crowd. It’s a bit too noisy for my likes and the tables on the main level are hard to walk around and too close together I had the briased pork dish with pastina which was tasty but too salty. My wife had the halibut which she liked. The overall experience was acceptable but we didn’t find anything special about this place and it was a bit pricey to boot.
Too expensive for a neighborhood place. Sitting area crowded.
