Although Oxbow became a favorite neighborhood place, we were disappointed this time. They replaced my absolute favorite dish on menu, Seared Tuna with Sumac, with a Tuna Nicoise Salad -- hardly a dinner item and hardly comparable and not great -- paltry pieces of less than fresh tuna, soggy overdressed greens, 2 tiny 1/4" pieces of haricot vert, and 2 paper thin tiny slices of potato, at $36! Waitress was in a bad mood and made us feel like we were imposing on her with every question or request. I hope they put the Seared Tuna back on the menu. It was my main reason for dining here.
Loved the brunch I had here! Highly recommend the chicken salad sandwich, but replace the chips with french fries. The omelette was a little overpriced at $17, but good sized and came with fries as well. Loved the decor inside at the bar!
Omelette was good. Needed to ask for bread/rolls on table. Staff was all right but I got the feeling that they wanted to speed us along. When we needed them, didn't see waiter. However when it came towards end of meal took plates away, gave us water and then the waiter gave us bill without asking. He then asked if were ready to pay.
Service with kindness - perfectly prepared strip steak.
The tuna in our orders of tuna nicoise was sinewy and mushy, as if it had been frozen after cooking. When we pointed this out to the server he seemed surprised and did not immediately offer to substitute other dishes. Neither he nor anyone in management apologized. Service on the whole was lackadaisical during a very quiet lunchtime. On the good side, the egg white omelettes were very good.
The brunch salad portions are the size of an appetizer portion and the price is for a full dinner portion.
Really nice restaurant. Good menu, good food and very nice service. Looking forward to going back.
My wife and I were fans of Ouest and were happy to hear about chef Valenti's new restaurant. Suffice to say that we enjoyed everything we were served and recognized our waiter, Richard, from the old place who was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Oxbow Tavern is the kind of place that we'll look forward to enjoying on a regular basis - good to have y'all back in the neighborhood again-
It was sufficient.
Doubt we would have ever listed it as one of the top 10 even on the restaurant depraved upper West side
Consistently very good. Neighborhood gem!
We went before theater and took the fixed price menu. I had a salad and mushroom tarts flambe(flatbread). It was very greasy and had little mushroom flavor. My friend had very mediocre mussels. Totally meh— glad we didn’t pay full price but still wouldn’t go back.
This was not our first time at the Oxbow, as we live in the neighborhood and have always enjoyed Tom Valenti's food. But the service really spoiled the evening. The server was a woman who should not be in the hospitality business - she was surly and abrupt. Having worked in restaurants, this type of attitude is difficult to ignore. The food was reliably good. Now that we have the name of the server on our receipt, I will make sure to request that we not be seated in her station in the future. Or perhaps she will come to the realization that she is not cut out for restaurant work. I would recommend the restaurant based on previous meals -- not this one.
Absolutely wonderful dining experience in every way. I would expect no less from the kitchen of Tom Valenti.
Food was well done, and service very professional.
Loved it- been passing this place and checking it our for awhile- finally went in and was so glad I did. Food was spot on, delicious and creative cocktails, great service. How lucky we are to have in this neighborhood.
Go for brunch. It is fabulous. The eggs benedict, omelets, bloody marys were perfect.
Initially, we waited quite a time to be asked for an order, then had to ask the bus boy to get someone. Unfortunately this pompous server, in his 50's I would say, treated us with disdain, and lucky for us, assigned a female server, who was the total opposite to him....extremely professional and excellent. The food was excellent, eventually, the service was excellent but it was way too loud....sadly. Would go back as extremely convenient to The Beacon Theater, and great food. Try for yourself.
Okay, but I would not go out of my way to eat here again.
Great food, and the menu was very approachable. Went with a group of picky eaters, and they all left very satisfied.
The first turnoff was the smell of cats in the restaurant. Further, it was dirty. The food not great. But waitress was nice although hurried us to move along. All in all, not a great evening out. Would not recommend.
everything was very good but the gravlax was too greasy and had insufficient curing, It should have been served with some sort of toast or bread as it was too rich without.
Very warm and cozy....old charm and quiet but not dead and boring...great staff and service....and the food was just awesome....be back again for sure.
I’ve never eaten duck gizzards before, but after eating said dish at Oxbow, I will forever be a fervent fan! Also, my wife is pretty picky about her fish and she said the halibut was cooked perfectly :)
Not quite as tasty or polished as Ouest - but hopes continue.
Glad you are here on Columbus Ave. We need you.
The food was excellent as always, staff helpful and gracious, the food really is so amazing!
Mediocre brunch given the high cost. Eggs Benedict. Bland. Bloody Mary. Unusual. But not worth $14. Brunch for two total $80 with one drink each.
By far, the best restaurant in the Upper West Side- Valenti is a wizard in the kitchen.
Made res for 4 ppl and they sat us at a big table for 6 - restaurant is noisy so hard to have a convo- they moved us when 4 became avail - but getting settled in wasnt pleasant
We will put Oxbow Tavern high on the list of preferred restaurants from now on! A great neighborhood gem.
First visit, mid-week, for lunch.
Excellent service, food and ambiance. Will return.
We wish you had been here 40 years ago when we lived on w. 73rd st.
Great food. Good service. Great combination.
Past years when this restaurant was Talluhas it was one of our local favorites. This visit was a disappointment. Waitress was uninterested unfriendly and generally in different. The food was good but not memorable prices were excessive for the value experience. We do not plan to return.
We went for brunch and it was terrific. We all had Eggs Benedict either with spinach or with smoked salmon. The eggs were done perfectly. Our waitress was charming, friendly and very competent. All together, a very good brunch.
I had been to this restaurant a few times before most recent dinner and enjoyed it on previous occasions. Looked forward to endive salad, which I loved in previous visits. it was unrecognizable and barely edible. My dinner companions agreed. I ordered tuna and found presentation unappetizing. Tasted OK but not good. Dessert was good, but I won't go back.
Fries from frozen, really?!?
A pleasant surprise!
We had never eaten here before and found the restaurant on Open Table. We can't wait to return. The food, service and ambiance was amazing.
While the food was delicious, I would not recommend Oxbow to anyone who would like to enjoy a glass or two of wine with dinner. For $16-20, you will receive maybe 3 1/2 ounces of wine. When we questioned this, we were assured “That’s our pour.” It’s my only complaint, but it’s a big one.
Hello! Thank you for dining with us. We wanted to write back to assure you that our pours are measured before they’re brought to the table. They are a standard 5 ounces (but perhaps look smaller because our wine glasses are on the larger side!) We hope that you’ll join us again.
Wonderful food and service. Definitely will continue to eat here.
Nice long bar if you want a drink, but food was mediocre and disappointing. Expensive....but for what?
