A pleasant surprise!
While the food was delicious, I would not recommend Oxbow to anyone who would like to enjoy a glass or two of wine with dinner. For $16-20, you will receive maybe 3 1/2 ounces of wine. When we questioned this, we were assured “That’s our pour.” It’s my only complaint, but it’s a big one.
Wonderful food and service. Definitely will continue to eat here.
Nice long bar if you want a drink, but food was mediocre and disappointing. Expensive....but for what?
Interesting menu with some unusual dishes (i.e., tripe , duck gizzards). But the appetizer of "gaufrettes" was a joke! Nothing more than a small dish of out- of -the- bag ripple potato chips accompanied with an uninteresting dip.
Service was very good but I did not think there was much value for the money. In addition, I ordered a $43 steak which was a bit overcooked.
Girlfriend had chicken and mashed potatoes, and I I had fried chicken sandwich. Food was great
Second visit to this restaurant. They were very busy and the service was harried. My burger while still tasty was cooked to "done" when I ordered it "medium". We had to ask for bread instead of them offering. Still like Oxbow a lot but they need to keep their service level consistent which was much better a month ago (which was also on a Friday night.
this is my second visit and while the atmosphere is nice and staff very good, I have found the food lacking in taste. the chickpea fries were over salted and the fish just ok
Very accommodating . Even made me a special cocktail! Chick pea fries are the best!
Everything was terrific except they did not have 2 of the wines on their wine list. So they brought a different year, but charged the same price. that was not good.
Otherwise great and not noisy.
Very good hearty French fare. The Coq au Vin and Endive Salad were very good. The duck gizzards were very tender.
Everything was terrific. Great menu. Amazing service. Excellent food. Nice vibe.
Mushroom soup and burger stood out!! One of our new favorites. Will return often!
We were seated in the corner by the window. A nice spot, though the tanks was a wee bit small. Our waiter- Fatima- was wonderful. A good blend of pro and friendly without being at all intrusive.
And the sommelier- Dave? ( sorry) gave a really good suggestion. He was low key and also interesting to talk with. We’ll definitely be back.
Really good experience overall.
The food here is SCRUMPTIOUS, the service is great, the ambiance is wonderful. I love this neighborhood gem!!
The food was good although I would not rave about it. It was Saturday night and the pace was packed, and quite noisy too. The server seems nice and helpful but then seemed stressed out with the amount of work there was.I would say this is a nice, Casula, Upper Westside of Manhattan restaurant where you'll get a good dinner
The noise level was extremely high the night we were there due to a table that was rowdy. Food was good , service was okay. Still a good place to go before the Philharmonic.
In spite of the noise level, the overall atmosphere was very upbeat, with a predominantly middle-aged population. The food was very good but a bit too salty. The portions for me were just right as I don't eat much but for someone with a bigger appetite that might be a problem. I would definitely come again.
My first time there. Food and service excellent. Nice and quiet, although unfortunately there were very few tables occupied. I would definitely go back.
Great dinner. We’ll run establishment.
The food was merely good but not outstanding for the price. the duck gizzards really missed the mark--served in a brown goop in which you had to fish around to find the gizzards among other items. The French onion soup was serviceable but not worthy of the price. I recommend the chick pea fries.
Nice ambience and place for a small gathering near the door with lots of natural light, professional service, and a nice selection of fancy food. On the sightly pricier/fancier end of the spectrum, but reasonable all things considered.
Food is excellent. Service very good.
Large yet cozy room with a long bar perfect for having a drink or eating dinner. Service was very good and friendly. We had the cod and the salmon which were delicious as was the endive salad and brussels sprouts. Highly recommend for a nice evening out on the upper west side.
Wonderful experience from beginning to end. Never felt rushed, service was friendly and attentive and food was excellent. Will definitely go back.
Excellent food. Nice greeting and waitstaff. A bit noisy but we very much enjoyed the evening.
Went with French Canadian friends. They were impressed! Amazing Coq au Vin! Amazing Tarte Tatin! We'd order both again; everything else was excellent, too. Attentive service and lively atmosphere. Overall excellent experience.
Terrible. It was stuffy and they refused to open the window or turn the air on. There were only five people there but it was all slow. We will never go back
Brunch. It is what it is. Brunch is not an accurate assessment of what a chef can do. It's a crowd pleaser. I would be happy to come back and see what happens with dinner. Yes, I know this is a tavern. But some are more welcoming than others.
I’ll try it one more time - they have been excellent in the past. This time was a miss 🙁
Lovely to sit and have a meal and chat and catch up.
Lovely neighborhood restaurant. The chicken sandwich is just as good as you’ve heard. Outstanding cocktails.
excellent atmosphere, cool bar, attentive service, delightful food
Still miss Quest but Ox Bow Tavern is now becoming our go to neighborhood place. Consistently good food, no attitude & nice ambiance.
I go there a lot, like the food and the wait staff is wonderful. Long Bar is a blessing!
I'm a former 20year Manhattan resident and during my tenure in the city, I was a fan of Chef Valenti's previous restaurants, so I chose this spot because of him. We wanted a casual room with great food for an early dinner after a Broadway matinee, then back to CT. The wine selection was wonderful, the terrific server was very courteous by checking with us on how quickly (or leisurely) we'd like to proceed. The food was very tasty and satisfying - and I chose both healthy and indulgent courses, so it's a menu that will please a multitude of palates. If I still lived in the city, I'd consider myself fortunate if this were my neighborhood tavern.
UWS is so lucky to have Oxbow Tavern in our midst! Great wait staff, of course good kitchen, and the only fault with the menu is that it's so hard to make a choice, not just order most of it! For brunch, I decided on the omelet and arugula salad plus a decaf cappuccino and loved every bite and sip. Great salad dressing, and fresh contrast to the omelet! I'm on my way back in an instant....
A cheery and fun neighborhood restaurant. The menu, however, is a bit of a stretch. Odd offerings. We always go for the hamburger which is good.
Don’t go for late Brunch!!
We had heard great things of the Oxbow Tavern and liked Ouest his previously place but were very disappointed. Initial service was poor and server was uninterested (she heard our English accents and assumed we were tourists). My wife had the chicken sandwich which she said she could have done better and Citeralla’s does. My Tuna nicoise was fine but we were in and out in an hour. Will not be be going back.
Service was excellent. No pressure. The hostess was very accommodating as our first table was too noisy. She was able to reseat us in a quieter area of the restaurant.
