Ox Pasture was conceived by a fourth generation Montanan and his wife, whose vision was to create a place where everyone was welcome, that supported the food & retail culture of Red Lodge’s historical main street, and that focused on the produce of the region.
For the 2018 season, we welcome a pop-up by Chef Philip Guardione and his Sicilian kitchen, Piccola Cucina. Philip cooks authentic Sicilian food which is an amalgam of Italian cuisine influenced by all the cultures that found Sicily as their crossroads. Simple, fresh ingredients authentically prepared suit the local environment of Red Lodge.
At Ox Pasture X Piccolo Cucina, we are at the heart of Red Lodge’s artisan food scene, the locally raised world class beef is featured alongside produce and herbs raised in area farms. We work directly with the local farmers and ranchers to obtain the freshest and most seasonally appropriate ingredients.

Your chef was great, the wait staff was great and the food was excellent. We had a great time and hope you bring the same staff next year. The only thing that would be better for the locals is your wine selection, it is a bit high priced for us local people.
Strange meals. My pasta dish had no protein, just pasta and cheese. Yes it was good, just boring. My husband had a chicken special, only protein. We shared. The next dish was a dumpling with sauce and no meat.
We have enjoyed the team for the season. Sad to see you go. Our meal was great as always! See you next season!
Seemed a bit short staffed as it is late in the season. We waited a very long time for food and a glass of water. My bucatini was a showstopper !

We love this place we go every Saturday for lunch and have delicious food every time. The chef is an eggplant wizard. g
I heard about the great food and fun atmosphere from a coworker and also from a Red Lodge shop owner, and was excited to go and try it out. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was fun with a welcoming feel to it. We highly recommend going and will definitely plan on going again.
Food was okay. I had the tuna confit with penne pasta in marinara sauce. Where’s the tuna?? My spouse two days after dining there can’t recall exactly what she had (not exactly memorable) but it was just so so. Not worthy of a place that fills up with advance dinner reservations. Don’t understand that. The grilled octopus appetizer was quite good however . Otherwise, we would not go back and can’t recommend this restaurant.
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had! So much fun.
The food was good, a little pricey since we didn’t get a salad or bread with our pasta meal. We patiently drank wine and waited quite a while to get our order taken and then found the wait staff to be impatient and rushed they were out of the three things they recommended to us. One of them even argued with us over what was ordered. Not very professional and kind of put a damper on our fun destination evening. Over all, great concept but not worth the price and the hour and a half drive to get there.

I came here twice for the cacchio y peppe and I believe it is the best pasta dish I've ever had! The food is absolutely outstanding! From the zucchini appetizer to the panacotta and tiramisu, it's all outstanding.
My only complaint is that both times I ate here, the servers were not very attentive and you have to chase someone down in order to get your check.
I do hope Ox Pasture brings the same NYC restaurant back next year!

Simply the best in Red Lodge! The food, service and atmosphere are terrific.
We dined with two other couples who thought it was grand and they were surprised to find such an outstanding experience in Red Lodge. The service was superb, the grilled octopus out of this world and the dish with noodles made in the parmesan wheel (sorry cannot recall the name) had them exclaiming it was as good as we all had in Sicily. Only downside, for me, was spaghetti/fish (calamari, shrimp, scallops) special seemed 'fishy' as if leftovers were being used and were already turning. Everyone who had caesar salad said best they'd ever had; lasagna pronounced delicious. All in all a very worthy place and an exceptionally worthwhile dining experience.

My friend and I received high recommendation to dine at Ox Pasture. We made the reservation for an early dinner. The wait staff was friendly enough but did not seem well trained. It took a long for the server to bring our wine while we looked at the menu. In the restaurant’s favor, there was no issue with splitting the entree consisting of fried vegetables and seafood, the salad, and dessert.
Our main issue was the noise level. It’s definitely not a quiet restaurant suited for conversation. The manager lower the music volume at my friend’s request. Ox Pasture is obviously a place that caters to family dining.
The second issue was that we ordered an entree that described tuna confit on pasta. When the dish was presented, the pasta was swimming in marinara sauce, and tuna was not evident. We sent this dish back as we would not have ordered it if the description included marinara sauce.
If we return to Red Lodge, I would be more willing to try other restaurants before returning to Ox Pasture

What a wonderful experience in dinning. I live in Cody Wy. and there is not an eating establishment in that town that could hold a candle to the fine cuisine that I was introduced my evening @ the OX. I will be back next season for a second,third ,fourth and more visits. Thank you much and Chow1
As always, a great Sicilian menu and excellent service! Wines are a bit pricey, but food very well priced.

We had heard such great things, but our experience was poor. Our waiter was smart-alecky. The special spaghetti was tasteless and the sauce reminded us of Chef Boyardee out of a can. The chicken cutlet was very dry and we couldn’t finish it. The appetizers were good. The ravioli was acceptable. The wine we chose was quite good but there were limited choices on the wine list under $50/bottle. However because of our feedback, we were not charged for 2 entrees and were given cannolis gratis. We appreciated that.
Excellent quality and interesting Sicilian dishes. The restaurant uses local in-season ingredients. But this is Montana so no local calamari.
I read a couple of reviews that complained about the wait staff being overwhelmed and I have to agree. They were not very professional. But a wave got their attention.

Nice place conveniently located in down town Red Lodge. Bread was fresh, meatballs very good and ravioli great. Tiramisu was incredible.
The only thing was we didn’t care for the meat ragu sauce. It was good, just not our style.
Amazing and wonderful Red Lodge option .. like a pop up NYC fine dining experience.. Can't wait for next summer when they return.
Oh my gosh. I love the authentic food, the great service, the wine, the EVERYTHING but the special treat is when they dim the lights and break out into song and dance . I will miss them so much when they leave Red Lodge on September 15.
This was a wonderful discovery we made thanks to a vague recommendation from a friend who had never eaten there and didn't even know the exact name of the restaurant, but did know it has a great Sicilian chef. The food was really good and the staff has a lot of fun with the patrons - even dancing with some of them! Would highly recommend!
Ox Pasture in the summer of 2018 (and hopefully 2019?) is being operated by Piccola Cucina, Chef Philip Guardione's Sicilian restaurant group out of New York. This is very different from Chef Chris Lockhart's tenure (he's now across the street at his own restaurant, Prerogative Kitchen), so reviews before 2018 are not talking about the same food.
Piccola Cucina offers straight-up Sicilian cuisine executed perfectly, a rare treat in a small Montana town. Just hearing the Italian bantering of the staff brings a huge smile to my face. With the first bite of your pasta, you will know that you're experiencing something fundamentally different from your average Italian-American establishment. If it's still the summer of 2018 when you're reading this, hurry in before they close for the season in mid-September.

It's a such delight to have this place open, OX Pasture Piccola cucina is an amazing place they will bring you to Italy by the flavor they put in the good and the warm welcome and service of the staff.
The only bad i have to say is they closing for September where am I going to get my arancini and spaghetti vongolé please come back soon !

We absolutely love the concept of Ox Pasture and will return. I grew up in Chicago and am very familiar with Italian and Sacilian cuisine. The food was basic, nothing extraordinary, but good enough for a nice evening out without breaking the bank. The service was very good and the restaurant decor was simple but tasteful and cozy. Although all tables were full, it was surprisingly quiet and my husband and I could actually have a conversation without shouting. I do recommend a visit to Ox Pasture. It’s perfect for a casual dinner and evening out.
Service was excellent. The calamari was also very tasty! The gnoochis were lacking; I make them homemade and these were not homemade. They were very hard not light and fluffy! We did not care for the sauce on them either. The lasagna was very good! We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and the chef gave us two desserts which were very good! Our friends left a message with the restaurant as they wanted to buy a bottle of wine for us. They never received a call back.
Service was fantastic! Food was delicious! The Cesar salad was the best that I've had. Save room for dessert!
