Great atmosphere, nice and quiet, great place to catch up with friends. Food is fresh and good. Good wine selection.
Excellent service in a tasteful, understated decor. Excellent food.
Order the beef or chicken. Fish has good presentation but is not as good as many other restaurants.
Pretty understaffed as it was a Sunday, but the food was absolutely phenomenal.
Great service, food was ok, drinks were fantastic. I had an over cooked prime rib which I didn’t mention and should have. The sides were great and appetizers and oysters hit the spot.
Had the Rack of Lamb . . . . had to be at or near the top of "the best I've ever had.
We enjoy the Owyhee Tavern, and have been there 10 times since they opened three years ago. In those three years, their consistency and service has steadily improved. It's a great spot when dining with a group: comfortable, large booths, lovely interior and decent acoustics for conversation. But I'm always a little surprised by how expensive it is, compared to the quality of food/drinks. It's consistently "fine", but I can't say we've ever walked away saying, "that was fantastic!". Other local restaurants in this price-point seem to regularly hit the "fantastic" mark. That said, we continue to return for the location, ambiance and menu variety. For a fun appetizer, try the "Prime Beef Fondue" - it's essentially steak chunks in queso dip (not a traditional fondue), but very tasty and addictive!
I hadn’t been to Owyhee Tavern for a few years. First experience was great and I wondered over the years why i didn’t put this place at the top of my list. My last visit demonstrated the wisdom of my previous indifference. Maybe they were off their normal game. But my risotto dish was served luke warm, and shrimp was rubbery (scallops excellent despite being un-hot). Water guy came around once during 1.5 hour dinner, and was rather stand-offish. French fries cold. Dessert (cobbler) excellent. Staff quite unimpressive, especially the hostess (first impressions, anyone?). Guests at table next to us had a similar experience (only worse). Experience led them to complain loudly, the manager came out, and comped their entire meal. We may give Owyhee Tavern another try but only if all the other first-tier places are full.
First time to visit and will not return. Waiter was inattentive, in other words rarely checked on us and took forever to get our drinks. Seriously, I think it took 15 minutes for our cocktails to come out and same when I ordered a beer with my dinner. I was practically done by the time he brought it out. Water glasses weren’t refreshed and my two colleagues had to cut their steaks with their butter knives.
Our first visit to the Tavern, amazing. Staff , food and atmosphere were all wonderful.
Service sucked this time but the food was bomb.
Great service and good food. I asked for my burger cooked with a little pink but it came out more medium then medium well. It was still a delicious burger just a little undercooked for my taste.
Every item on everyone's plate was heavily salted. Really odd and dissapointing
Great service, great food, and good wine. We enjoyed our dining experience and will be back soon.
Chelsey was a very friendly server but our food was very delayed being delivered (like 25 minutes?).
Just love the place. Lunch, Happy Hour or dinner, it's always nice. We especially like the open seating in the lounge. We always make reservations, but if there's table open that's where we land. Our server was Maddison and although everything was wonderful as usual, she made our last visit even better! Cheers!
Owyhee Tavern is consistently good. The Copper River salmon with the cucumber topping was amazing. For impeccable service, ask for Rachel.
I had a lovely dinner with my elderly neighbor at Owyhee Tavern. He was celebrating his birthday. Great food, great service.
My wife and I spent New Year’s Eve here and we had an awesome dinner. This visit was not as. Although my wife’s filet mignon was great, my ribeye was not prepared properly. I asked for medium rare and got well done. I guess I expected more from a $40 steak. I will go back but maybe just for cocktails next time.
The steak was excellent and everything else was very good. I will definitely be going back!
The outdoor seating is a street-side cafe that allows one to truly enjoy downtown Boise. Our server Hannah did a great job helping us make our selections and was present just the right amount of time.
Food was okay, service was really slow. The poor servers were SLAMMED and it was very clear that the restaurant was overwhelmingly understaffed.
We shared a Copper River salmon dish. It was so delicious, basically melting in our mouths. We substituted asparagus for the melon it came with without a fuss. The asparagus was cooked perfectly. What a great meal. Now we have to wait another year for that CR salmon window again. But we'll be back.
The tavern appears to appeal to friend gatherings, couples having a night out and singles enjoying the bar atmosphere. I took my husband there for his birthday dinner and we were not disappointed!! The drinks were well mixed and the food was outstanding!! Can’t wait to go back at our next visit.
Not much more to say than great food and service! Will definitely return!
Pleasant meal and excellent food and service. The restaurant was not crowded, but the noise level could be distracting for a business meeting. The acoustics could be improved to mitigate this. I would not want to schedule a group on a busy night, unless it was a party.
The food was awesome, but the service was not. We never got a refill on our drinks. Our waitress rarely checked up on us. It took 20 minutes to get our check, we had to walk up to the host and pay there.
AND For it being our anniversary, nothing special was done. A bit of a surprise for a place that charges $50 a plate
Absolutely would recommend Owyhee Tavern! This Mother's Day celebration was our 2nd holiday here. We spent Thanksgiving 2018 at the Owyhee. The service is exceptional even though we had a brunch for Mother's Day and set menu for Thanksgiving, the attention we received was outstanding.
Mother's day brunch was way overpriced for what what was served for $40/person. Long line, poorly managed, food was not properly stocked. You can get pretty much the same buffet food on a cruise ship. Oysters were good. I will not be going back again for brunch. Very disappointing.
Fantastic mother’s day brunch. Fresh oysters, shrimp, carving station, and really tasty quiche.
Dinner was good had the smoked prime rib. Flavor was good but if you like your rare or good luck. I ordered Med rare and had to send back because it was much closer to well done than rare. Server was on it right away they brought me the closest to med rare they could. Which really wasn't med rare either, I am sure the smoking process is the culprit and not an inattentive staff. We sat outside to enjoy Boise people watching while we dined. Had drinks and apps. All in a pretty good experience. Only knock is I believe they prices are slightly inflated by about 15% compared to other experiences in this same price range.
A great place for a nice dinner. Drinks and entrees were delicious! A really nice wine menu with many regional options. They could up their game on the side dishes and take this plane from great to over the to delicious.
An excellent, less known restaurant that offers steak and seafood options in BOISE. It is quiet place that is perfect for impressing a client or for special occasions.
Madison was a fabulous waitress!!!!! Will be coming back because of her excellent service!
My husband and I split several dishes and all were fantastic. We especially enjoyed the Charcuterie Platter and Wedge Caesar Salad (the caesar dressing was refreshingly different and delicious.) We will definitely be returning as the service was just as great.
I'll start with the pros... Matt was a great server. He was attentive but not overbearing. The ambiance is excellent and the atmosphere romantic yet comfortable. The wedge salad was delish and so was the cobbler. Our reservation thru OpenTable worked great as well.
The negatives... My lobster pasta was def overpriced for what I got. It tasted good but unfortunately was swimming in WAY TOO MUCH cream sauce. It was much less food after realizing the amount of sauce it had. My wife's pork chop was pretty raw. We prefer medium temp in a chop but this wasn't close. So much as we asked that it go back on the grill which we hate asking for. I don't know if the kitchen was off that night or what because I've been here before with a group and ordered a filet and it was awesome. Lastly, my wife ordered a decaf to go with dessert and it was luke warm at best. I don't know what happened there but it was undrinkable. Tonights dinner unfortunately wasn't very good but we will give it another shot at another time. Obviously we're hoping the next time will wow us. I'll probably stick with a steak instead which they do well.
Love this place! Second time there for breakfast in a month. Great both times! Will definitely go back.
Everything was great!
Excellent restaurant with excellent dinner and happy hour menus. Service is very good. We snagged a seat on the patio on a lovely evening and ordered wine and appetizers. One of the best in Boise.
Although the hostess was a little standoffish when we arrived, the waitress was great! She was personable & joked with us as we discussed our orders. She gave her own recommendations that turned out to be spot on and everyone enjoyed their meal. Although we originally preferred a table with a view, since we had two additional guests, the large table seating was not available near the window. Staff were willing to open the blinds to let the nice warm sunlight into the dining room since it was still pretty early in the evening & made it more inviting for dinner. And by the end of our visit, the hostess was much more pleasant as we headed out to the Boise Contemporary Theater wishing us a nice evening.
