Our server disappeared. !/2 the tables food came out cold went back and they forgot about us. Food timing was off and the food itself was just OK. Probably won't go back
Went for dinner on Friday 4/13. The service was abysmal. It was the first nice day of the year so maybe the staff and the kitchen weren't ready for the crowd. For a restaurant company with about a dozen successful restaurants in the area, I expected way more.
No real gripes with the food, but it also wasn't particularly good either. The beer selection is quite good, as expected, but that only matters if it actually shows up. After dinner we went to the bar for drinks - the server took our order at one of the bar tables, and then came back 20 minutes later to take our order again. When we told her that we already place an order (with her), she was confused. Look, it was a busy night, and I'm sympathetic to that, but either the staffing levels or the training were lacking, and that falls squarely at the feet of the GM.
The beer list is expansive but the staff are helpful in navigating. Burgers were delicious!
Service was not great at all. Inexperienced. Ambiance was nice but waiter and bus boy uniform did not match the "fancy" bar style. Servers looked ok in collared button shirts and jeans but bus boys and hostess looked awful in cotton shirts and jeans, especially the hostess. She is the first face you seeing selling you on the experience you will have that evening. She looked way undressed. We found our table before the couple who was meeting us. She also told them they could find us themselves. She should have escorted them! It is designed to be an elevated bar experienced with the ambiance and font/menu design. The experience itself felt like Fudrucker's. I am left disappointed and won't return. I was also disappointed in the menu itself.
Had the Owens salad with chicken which was OK. Nothing special. You could beef it up a bit with more pizazz -add beef as an option and throw in some more vegtables
Casual restaurant with a some more interesting dishes. Excellent beer and wine list.
Food is good -service friendly. Only objection, they charge $2.00 for each glass of Iced Tea, small glasses and full of ice. This is reprehensible in today's restaurants, have not seen it since the 80's. In addition the waiter did not inform me. I caught it by reviewing my check, brought to his attention and he did take the charges for all 3 glasses off. There is no excuse or reason for this kind of charge.
Nice people. The burger was fabulous. Fries ok at best. I’d go again to get a bit more experience. Good service.
Unfortunately “ordinary” is apt. We’ve eaten here on several occasions but this evening was definitely a step back. The fish and chips consisted of one greasy flavorless piece of fish (at previous visits the portion was two pieces and was not greasy). Not a good value at almost 18 dollars. The fries that came with it were not hot. A companion ordered pork. A mistake. A dry flavorless disc. The best part of the meal was the pretzel and the calamari. A very disappointing meal.
This spot is very loud! It fills up with after-work millennials, mainly in the bar section, but the noise rather overwhelms the dining room as well. We had reservations to get together with some friends, but had to keep the conversation level louder than we usually would just in order to hear ourselves! The food was good-- we had fish & chips & burgers--the beer selection fabulous, and desserts were imaginative.
Burger was overcooked - twice - and finally I just gave up and ate it; besides it was so long before the server came back to ask me that i ate it rather than wait. Food was otherwise pretty bland, including the Calamari (peppers were spicy, but calamari itself was tasteless). Definitely, deserves the name "Ordinary".....if that. Beer selection, on the other hand, was great! :-)
Overpriced and eh. Didn’t have the steak, burgers were not worth the extraordinary price, beers for $20+?? Likely won’t go back.
Unlike previous visits, food was just ordinary this time. Chicken pot pie was not up to my expectations. Top crust was too crispy and overcooked (vs flaky), and contents were not sufficient for a comfort-food meal (not enough chicken or veg). My wife had the fish tacos; again, not great, and the side (rice or grain) was cold when it reached the table. Probably not a dinner destination for us. Great burgers and lunch, though.
Fantastic Brunch! The best fries in town. Can't wait to go back.
Owen’s Ordinary is a good addition to the Rockville dining scene. Casual place with a fun vibe, good food and service. Extensive beer menu.
Took advantage of spring like temps and dined outside. Staff seemed overwhelmed and we waited a good while before we received water and had our order taken. I ordered The ginger-lime habenaro mocktail which I ‘ve Had before, but this time the drink had no fizz and tasted like straight lime juice in a glass. Food was good though. My husband enjoyed a burger and fries, I has Salmon and a beer salad
Second time here and the experience went way down. Food wasn't as good (got the same dish) but was fine. Server was nice but crap. We were going to order alcohol but no one would ever talk to us so we changed our minds. We wanted more coffee and, even though the coffee pitcher was directly beside our table, we had to ask many times for refills. The whole experience was simply distasteful.
They have a unique and exciting menu! They also do an amazing job executing their menu! Customer service was really good and very friendly too.
Owen's Ordinary ia certainly worth the trip- if it is a trip for you. A wonderful casual night out for a date or a family, the food is always excellent and the service attentive. Well done!
This was the second year in a row we have come here for the Valentine's Day pairing dinner. It was an awesome meal. I was excited to try some of the rare/hard to find sours that were also being featured in the bar after dinner and wasn't disappointed. We decided to stay and play trivia at the bar after dinner, which was a lot of fun and ended up being a good decision (we won!).
Food was excellent as usual. The service was just okay. The app and meal came out within minutes of each other and we had to ask for app plates, Hunt him down for the check, etc.
Our first time there. The server was fantastic. Just the right amount of chatty/friendly. Great service. Great food. Very pleased to have found, and then actually tried, the place. Can’t wait for nice weather so we can sit outside.
The staff was wonderful. We enjoyed the beer selection and food. The place was a little too simply lit for us but really not too much (just hard with a kid). I can’t wait to go back kid free!
Typical pub food, good beer menu, you don't dine here for the cuisine.
Menu looked great for a casual Friday night dinner. When we arrived for our 7pm reservation, the hostess seemed overwhelmed and asked us to wait —twice. I wouldn’t have thought anything of the very brief wait if she hadn’t appeared super stressed out. We ordered oysters (ok), stuffed pretzel appetizers (dry & cold.) Tuna “burger” was like cardboard, fish & chips was one small piece of fish presented on a slab, and salads were just ok. Fries were good, and steak on the salad was cooked as ordered. Beer menu is extensive, so beer lovers would probably find a lot to like.
This was the first time I've ever been to Owen's Ordinary, and it was a great experience. It was very busy and energetic on a Friday night, both in the bar area and tables. The service was outstanding, and the waitstaff provided excellent beer recommendations to our table. The Classic fondue was amazing! I would have preferred more veggies for the fondue.
Wow, what a disappointment! Having visited The Partisan (their sister resto in DC) on several occasions and always being happy with the experience, I was struck by how much Owens misses the mark. Ambience, tried to seat us right next to the kitchen even though other tables were available, overall service (very poor timing out of the kitchen — it was restaurant week, so I am willing to cut a bit of slack, though), capped off with a billing error, the night was a wash out. On a positive note, the manager was very apologetic and removed our drinks from the bill as a good will gesture. If it weren’t for the fact that the overall vibe of the place screams Corporate Suburban restaurant trying to be like their cool DC sister but failing, I would be willing to go back to give them a second chance when it isn’t restaurant week. The food is good, but there are better options around. “Ordinary” indeed.
Good beer, mediocre food, fun atmosphere
Beer selection was good. A lot of local beer that is high quality.
Excellent customer service! This is one of my favorite place to dine. Very polite and nice people. I've recommended this place to several friends and they love it
The service and the beer were good, but the food was definitely not great.
We had a fantastic evening and dinner at Owens Ordinary last Saturday. Our party grew from 4-5 people and we ended up calling to delay the reservation by 30 mins. They were super accommodating. Our hostess, and then server David, gave us the best hospitality (we can’t just say service, we have to say hospitality, because it was so much smoother and done with such ease and professionalism). Davids recommendations off the expansive beer list were great. Wine by the Glass was wonderful. And the shrimp sliders are a must have!
I took my fiancé on a date here on a Saturday and we had a good time overall. We weren’t in a mood for beer, but recognized a lot of Maryland brews on the menu that were good. Our cocktails were made skillfully and were a highlight of dinner. We ordered off of the restaurant week menu and LOVED the starters. Our choices from the mains ended up being disappointing and the deserts were in the middle in between “okay” and “decent”. Owens would be a solid choice to enjoy a great beer, cocktail and delicious apps. They have TVs in the front, so you could even catch a sports game.
Great Drink and Beer menu! Quality drinks!
The food was also very good, better than expected.
Service was horrendous and food was not very good. I do not recommend.
There were 7 of us. It was our first visit. We ordered off the Happy Hour (all day on Mondays) menu. The selection of beers was impressive. I had the Austin Bull cocktail so delish. We ordered nachos, sliders and salads. Dessert was the flourless chocolate cake. Everything was very good. Service was very good too. I would go back and try something off the regular menu.
Great that they are now open for weekday lunch. Same menu as at dinner but very quiet - at least until others find out. Delicious and filling lunch-sized salads to which you can add proteins, sandwiches and more.
The fish and chips and the angus double decker were delicious! Great beer selection. Try the chocolate fondue for dessert!
Went to Owen's Ordinary for my son's birthday. Seated at tables near vent's which were blowing cold air on a very cold evening. Was informed by wait staff that they could not do anything about it. Service was fair and the food was a bit over priced for the type of menu. Their beer selection is very good but I would not go there for the food again.
Ended up not eating here because they only offered brunch for New Year's Eve and I and my companions were expecting the dinner menu as we had reviewed it prior to making the reservation and determined it offered several options for all our various dietary restrictions.
