Ovvio Osteria - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We went for brunch today and we ordered pancakes for the kids and gluten-free pizzas. The Boys liked their pancakes but our two different gluten-free pizzas was sticking to the pan so we couldn't eat them very well and they seemed to taste a little undercooked. I'm not sure if they just don't do gluten free very much or if it's new on the menu but it was rather disappointing. They were not busy at all our waitress came by a couple of times to check on us. We had to ask for our water glasses to be refilled. My wineglass was dirty which she did not notice and when I pointed out to her and showed it to her she still did not see were assured her it was dirty. She did get me a new glass. This was our second time there. The first time was a great experience this one was mediocre. We may give it another try. We are undecided since there are so many other places to pick from.
My friend had wanted to try this place for the branzino. It wasn't on the lunch menu but the waiter checked with the kitchen and we were able to order. The food was good; the grilled zucchini with the branzino was fantastic ... simply grilled and delicious. The restaurant was empty when we arrived (around noon on a Saturday) and only two other tables were occupied when we left. Not sure what that means. Would have liked to sit outside but the umbrellas weren't set up yet (it was a warm June day but pleasant in the shade). The outdoor tables and chairs were very worn and didn't make a good initial impression. Staff was nice, friendly and accomodating.
Terrible. 15 minutes after ordering an appetizer the waiter asked if we wanted it before our main course. Brillianst idea! Appetizer was lukewarm when it finally arrived.
Main courses: pizza came lukewarm,; angel hair pasta with shrimp fra diavalo came with plain spaghetti and was not at all spicy; my friend asked to substitute linguine for paparadelle and was told "no problem" and of course was served papardelle.
Waiter was tough to find when you needed him. This was my third or fourth time to this restaurant. Service has never been a strength, but has gotten worse. Food has gone from good, to spotty to plain old bad. Never again.
This used to be a nice upscale restaurant with terrific service when we started going here 3 years ago. This last visit they had changed from using table linens to paper napkins and the quality of the food is not what it used to be. The server did not know how to recommend a wine for our dinner and the one we did choose was not meet expectations.
I was excited to try this restaurant, the menu looked great, however, upon entering, I was immediately disappointed. The menus were dirty, the table we we seated at was sticky and covered in crumbs, my bread plate had some crumbs or other debris on it.
Service was extremely slow, took forever to for server to show up, our food took forever to arrive and when we were finished it took forever for her to check on us. We were planning to order dessert but did not because of the slow service. The coffee was cold!!! Our food arrived cold also. I ordered the Parmesan biscuits which were very underwhelming. I could not taste any Parmesan and the consistency was more of a hard cookie or cracker than a biscuit. The only tasty part of this dish was the Prosciutto. The sausage gravy was not mixed well had chunks of dough. Everyone that worked here looked depressed. A very unhappy vibe. The check was incorrect (wrong appetizer price, wrong meal price, drinks, etc.) but not worth the effort to fix. The only part of the service that was timely was the water service.
I would not recommend.
This is just based on last experience. Usually we enjoy this place. I had my mother in from out of town so we chose this place for mothers day dinner. I made reservations on open table. We got there and they couldn't find the reservation. Then magically they found it. We were seated and then it really went down hill. The server came over and said ladies you get free bubbly guts what do you want your paying. We order drinks he walked away never offering the ladies drinks other than the champagne. Never offered appetizers I had to stop him and order app. We finished app and again had to get him to order food. We orders food and never saw him again for the next 32 minutes til our food came out. We all had empty drinks and again he never offered/asked if we wanted another round. I had to ask. My wife ordered the margarita pizza with roasted garlic. They brought out a white pizza with no roasted garlic and a little basil and he said they forgot the tomato sauce and he would being her a side of tamato sauce. Really! Thank God the crest of the food was excellent. He never asked if we wanted dessert, well he did come back and say you w want anything else. On the way out I asked for manager and explained the experience and she listen with what appeared to be shock and then said would you like me to give you something. I said no. I just wanted you to know how disappointed we were with the experience tonight as I thought you would want to know.
The service was a bit slow. Took 10 minutes after we were seated to for a server to come and take our drink order.
Dining room is filled with smoke from the open kitchen. My clothes ended up smelling so bad when we left.
The apps were the best part of the meal. Over all food is pretty goo.
Bathrooms were both out of paper towels/hand towels.
Good place but needs better service, management oversight, and better ventilation system to get the smoke and kitchen smells out of dinning room.
Had good hopes for our Mother's Day Brunch for 4 adults and 2 children. We were seated promptly and then the waiting began. We had to ask for our server to come take our order, then we had to repeat a few of them as he didn't understand what we ordered and didn't know the menu. Bread finally came, but our waiter rarely came to the table. We had to ask for drink refills from other servers, ask where our meals were, and then still waited. When the meals finally came about 45min after we were seated, they were okay. We then had to flag down our waiter to get the check. Overall okay atmosphere, but the service was so poor and slow that we won't be returning for a second try.
Nice neighbohood restaurant in the Halstead area near Dunn Loring Metro. Less frenetic and boozy than nearby Black Finn Sports bar that draws the "I-sure-miss-college" set. Ovvio is a nice adult alternative to the overcrowded Mosaic neighborhood south of Lee. Good Italian fare. Good prices, except for desserts, which seem a tad high. Sunday brunch is their best. A diner at a nearby table ordered steak the Sat night we were there, and I tried the NY Strip for a change from Italian. Cooked to order to a perfect medium rare.
Food was mediocre at best. Ordered the calamari and it was bland and tasted like it's been cooked in old oil. The pasta sauce tasted like it came from a can. The angel hair pasta was over cooked. The bolognese pappardelle was not what was expected. Maybe it was an off night but we won't be back
Yet another wonderful meal
I hadn't been to Ovvio Osteria for several months -- no particular reason, just wasn't in the neighborhood -- so am glad I had a chance to return. Mid-week lunch with a friend. It was a gorgeous day, so we probably could have sat outside (it's not on a major street, so you don't have to contend with exhaust fumes and traffic noise too much). I've been to Ovvio in the past for dinner as well, but lunch is really a wonderful option. You can select pizza, pasta, bruschetta (usually different each day), or the lunch combo: for about $12-13 you select one appetizer or salad item and a pasta or pannini. The Caesar salad is just the right size and not overly dressed (nothing worse than soggy Caesar); the house salad just as good, also not overly dressed. COmpanion chose the pappardelle bolognese while I selected the Italian pannini (think Italian muffaletta -- which, by the way was big enough for me to take half home and have it the next day). Friendly staff. Good wine by the glass options. Because we were there mid-day/midweek, it was fairly quiet and so conversation was easy. I have been there on Thursday evenings (they have music then) when the place is packed and jumpin' -- but the food still wonderful. Because it had been a few months since I'd been there (and booked on Open table) I think Ovvio voted me off their island. But I'm back!
We were all really disappointed with our experience. We were settled in at our table, had already attached our daughters high chair and then we were asked to move down because they had sat us at a table with too many seats and they were "definitely going to need the extra table". However, it remained empty as did other tables around us the entire time we were there. We asked for a to go cup with milk for our daughter and were given one with two coffee stirrer as straws. Then I went to the bar and got a full size straw which still wouldn't work because it was too long only to find out when I asked for scissors that they have children sized straws. Even though we were one of the first reservations, sat at 10:30am our food took close to an hour which is absurd. My friend ordered the pancakes which on the menu stated they were served with blueberries but when they came out they were served with pineapple and watermelon, which is bizarre and quite a different flavor. Our other friends frittata was over cooked. The $6 "fruit bowl" I ordered for our daughter was the LAST item to come out and again it was just pineapple and watermelon. I ordered my eggs scrambled with cheese and when they came out there was no cheese. So I asked for a side of cheese and then I was presented with a plate of sliced provolone cheese because they didn't have any other kinds of cheese (?!) We will not be dining at Ovvio again.
Our poor service sort of marred my opinion of this place. While everything was correct on the order, and we were checked on a couple of time, it was rushed. After we finished our entrees, the server brought the check. No, would you like another glass of wine, coffee, or dessert? We sent the check away and asked for dessert menus (and ordered).
I've been before for lunch and always had very good service.
A bit more training might help this server up the check total amount! Good for the restaurant and good for the server!
This was our 3rd or 4th visit to Ovvio, but we won't be back. It was loud. We waited at the host stand to be seated for several minutes, despite the fact we had a reservation. The food was just ok, and the service was atrocious. Salad plates weren't cleared before entrees arrived, even after we pushed them aside to make room for the dinner plates. We requested items (like bread) multiple times before they were delivered. And when it was time to pay the bill, we provided an Open Table gift card, which took 10+ minutes to apply, only to have our card charged for the FULL bill. This then took about thirty minutes to resolve. If you're looking for great pizza or pasta in the area, try Pizzaria Orso or Argia's for great service and excellent food.
Went for a birthday celebration. Took 40 minutes to get food and even that was screwed up. Brought my daughters food out first and then waited another 10 minutes for everyone else's. asked to speak to a manager twice. My other daughter's food was incorrect as well my wife's. Very disappointing.
Went to Ovvio Osteria for Valentines Day. This was the second Valentines Day that we spent here. The first time we ordered from the fixed price menu but this year we were in the mood for pizza and wine which is always good. Very, very, crowded -seated about 20 minutes after our reservation time.
