Overlook Restaurant & Lounge
Celebrating the bride to be.
Even though a reservation with note of a special occasion and seat preference we were asked to wait in bar. It was very chaotic. The waiter was not friendly and the manager was unorganized and quite unfriendly. The food was reasonably priced. But I would NOT recommend this place for anything besides a quick bite to eat.
We arrived for our breakfast reservations only to find the restaurant is closed and they are just serving breakfast from the bar in the hotel lobby. We were very disappointment and left to go somewhere else - but this is the only way I could leave a comment.
Taste like simple hotel food, was nothing to get excited about. Had to send a drink back to the bar, however, service was great.
Restaurant not as advertised!! No view.
My husband and I made our first visit to Asheville for Valentine's weekend and had a dinner reservation here on February 13th. The hotel itself seemed nice (we stayed somewhere else), but the restaurant was chaotic. The staff was running around as if they weren't expecting a crowd and lots of people were trying to get in. Fortunately we were seated quickly with our reservation but were dissatisfied with our service and food. We had water spilled on our table, which happens, but it took the server three visits to our table before it was finally cleaned up (we had no napkins on the table to get ourself). The menu was very limited, which I had already read. The Valentine's weekend special was surf and turf (shrimp and 4 oz fillet mignon). The shrimp was just cocktail shrimp smothered in sauce and the steak was undercooked, not worth the $30. My husband said his NY strip was too salty and the worst he's ever had. To top it off, I ordered a $7 glass of house wine and that is what I received, but I was charged $13 on the receipt. We were so ready to get out, we just paid it- not worth sticking around for $6. I will likely not return, even if I stay in the hotel.
Overall good dinner, but service was slow & food was overpriced. Our drinks (ordered before appetizer) came as we were eating dinner due to a glitch in the machine(??). The French onion soup was good but I wasn’t expecting a slice of Swiss cheese on it - not how it’s traditionally made. I got the surf & turf special - the steak was delicious. My husband got the chicken plate - the potatoes & green beans were good but the chicken was clearly a frozen then heated meat. Kind of a standard overpriced hotel restaurant. Would recommend if you’re in a bind or other options are lacking.
Restaurant was ok. Not much else open so limited options on New Years for brunch.
New Year’s Eve
Limited menu, didn’t change the 3 nights we were in the hotel.
It was Christmas. The restaurant did not have enough servers. I think also they didn't did not have enough cooks. We waited over an hour to get our food. This was not the fault of the servers. The servers were working really really hard. The food was very mediocre.
It was Christmas evening. we had reservations. When we arrived we were greeted and seated immedi, but was told.they were short staffed and to please be patient. the waitress came by about 15 minutes in, took our drink order and a small plate entree (to eat as an appetizer. it NEVER came. One hour later we are still waiting on our food. i went to complain to the host, he said he would mention it to the server. She came.toward our table, looked me in the eye and stopped at the table bezside of us (who had been seated after us and already had their drinks ) We left w/o eating. the host did not charge us for the two beers, and he was very professional I will say that she could have have handed our table off to the other waitress who only had 3 tables. needless to say, I won't go back, even for the view
Food and ambience was great. The service was very poor especially being our for Christmas dinner.
Restaurant is only serving indoors in hotel lobby. It’s completely empty. You have to ring a bell for someone to come help you. I only found this out after asking front desk staff even though they’d seen me wandering around looking lost. Don’t bother going here. We left.
We set up reservation and when we got there the nice big overlook restaurant was closed for cleaning and we had to sit out by bar area. Very dissatisfied with this. Food was good and service was very good for the value.
Excellent food and environment. The front restaurant staff could have been more pleasant. The serving staff were awesome!
We had a large party and were having difficulty finding somewhere to accommodate 13 people. Overlook set up 2 tables side by side- 7 and 6. It was perfect. Food was delicious and service was great.
The waitress was not knowledgeable about the menu. She told us that the pork chop came with an apple chutney; however, it came out with Dijon “gravy.” When I asked about the chutney, she said “oh, I was wrong.” The collards were extremely dry. I asked for pepper vinegar. She brought malt vinegar instead. It was a terrible eating experience, but gave our groups a lot of good laughs. I would never recommend this place!
Overlook is a joke. There is no view. Food was average. Dining area reminded me of a state park.
To begin with we had no reservation because the restaurant was CLOSED by the time we got there. It is inside a hotel and the person there served us a couple of sandwiches and was very nice and mentioned this is was not the only time OPEN TABLE sent people there on a wild goose chase. We ended up having a mediocre hotel, even though the view was nice within the hotel compound. Please check your recommendations next time.
Great ambiance! Food was delicious! Expensive for portion size and entree choices.
Staff wore gloves they didn’t change out. Our server pulled down her mask every time she had to speak to us.
Food: gross cafeteria food. Kid’s Mac n cheese definitely comes from a box. “Roasted chicken” dish was two dried out chicken cutlets, not the rotisserie it implies.
Good food, nice atmosphere. Nothing too fancy yet just enough to enjoy a nice evening meal with the family.
avoid this place, place looks dated service was poor and the food tasted like reheated stale , beer didn't taste right I checked it was expired two months ago so brought a new one that also turn out expired
Our waitress Kat was amazing. We loved her personality as she was able to connect with our group, even thru Covid. We will definitely be back. We are even thinking of staying at your Hotel the next time we are in town.
I would have liked to have known it was at a hotel.
The staff was AMAZING. They asked our names and took the time to get to know why we were traveling to the location. Amazing food.
Good but not great and certainly not exceptional
The most beautiful view! Enjoyed our seats on the wall with the heaters above! Food was absolutely delicious, but pricey! Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Staff was slower than expected, but it was very busy. Get your reaervations well ahead of time!
Arrived at Overlook at the reservation time to only find it was closed. There was a sign in front of the restaurant directing us to the hotel bar for food service. If we wanted to eat at the bar we would have went there first. We then went to find another restaurant to eat at in town but were unable to make a reservation thru Open Table since my “reservation” could only be cancelled by Overlook which was closed. Bottomline, don’t take a reservation if you’re going to be closed.
Good hotel atmosphere. Clean and tidy. Food was good and tasty. Great place if you don’t want to venture out or a late night dinner.
We booked a table for New Year’s Eve. The restaurant was mostly empty. The hostess did not know where the menus were. Our server was cordial, but neither he nor the menus stated that an entree salad that we ordered was going to come out quite spicy. One of the members of our party could barely eat it.
The food was horrible and so was the service, it was our Christmas dinner so I was very disappointed. My husbands food was cold and they didn’t even offer to reheat it they just took off the bill
Typical hotel food and felt like we where in a chain restaurant.
Enjoyed spending our Christmas there! We stayed at another location, but had dinner there.
We were one table of three in the otherwise empty restaurant. The food was good, but not exceptional. We honestly went there because they were one of only a few with availability on Christmas Eve. Nothing remarkable in a city with amazing food experiences.
The food presentation was very nice and the food was good, but the room was just a ballroom with no decoration and no windows. The people were extremely nice. It served the purpose. Don't know if I would do it again. The title is misleading, by the way, it was not in the Overlook Restaurant at all.
A wonderful Thanksgiving buffet. Great staff with a wonderful selection of everything from A-to-Z.
Thanksgiving Buffet advertised at the restaurant, with its scenic views, but was held in reality in the hotel's large, windowless ballroom. Buffet was generous and varied. Service helpful and professional, but disappointed that it advertised one location but delivered another.
