In the heart of South Bound Brook, Ovations serves a unique culinary fusion featuring sumptuous Asian and Italian cuisines in its relaxing and friendly eatery. For starters, enjoy the jumbo coconut shrimp with sesame garlic sauce and the homemade mac and cheese gnocchi, which display Ovations inventive aesthetic. Some of the house specialties include the pan seared scallops and shrimp with white wine sauce served over risotto, the braised boneless short ribs baked with port wine and plum tomatoes and the chicken sorrentina with eggplant, mozzarella and prosciutto. Ovations is also known for its incredible sushi rolls, such as the zen zen with egg, seaweed salad, crab, avocado and cucumber in soy paper and the mango roll with spicy tuna and avocado topped with mango and walnuts.
Be sure to visit Ovations during its happy hour “manager’s hour” Monday through Friday, where delightful drink and food discounts abound.
The food was the standard Italian fare, pasta, flatbreads, etc. It looks like they also offer sushi but we didn't try it. There was a table there that was quite noisy. It wasn't the restaurant's fault but considering the price of the food, they should have asked them to be quiet. It's an upscale restaurant, not a pizza joint. The salad and pasta dishes were decent. The steak was subpar, steak shouldn't have any sauce on it. The sauce didn't taste good and neither did the actual steak.
Pros: The decor was nice and the restroom was clean. The music in the background, when we could hear it (see above), was pleasant. The waiter was nice and portion sizes were adequate. And there is a private parking lot.
Cons: The food was decent but definitely overpriced. It was too loud, and the restaurant did nothing about it. There seemed to be only one waiter for many tables, making it difficult to get his attention. We were only provided with a few slices of bread, once. When it was gone, no more was offered. And then there are sides, dishes need sufficient sides. As in more than one side; potatoes, rice, vegetables, they help make a dish and justify prices.
We made a reservation last minute on Mother’s Day and they were so welcoming, seating and serving us promptly. The food was amazingly delicious - the pappardelle with hazelnut cream sauce is not to be missed! The chicken piccata was the best we’ve ever had. Dessert was delicious and generously portioned. Fantastic food, fabulous place!
This was not our first time at Ovations, but our first Open Table booking. We discovered this neighborhood gem quite by accident and good karma. You wouldn't think that sushi and Italian food work, but they do and quite well. If it's nice outside, their patio is lovely, with nice views of the D&R Canal Towpath and glorious sunsets. The food is well prepared, nicely presented and service is properly paced. A friendly, homey place, one that we return to.
We enjoyed an early quiet dinner. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The portions were just right so there is room for dessert without being stuffed. The filet mignon was fork tender. The best we've had anywhere around. The veal piccata was also done well and delicious. The chocolate soufflé (lava cake) with ice cream for dessert was also just enough to enjoy. The prices were reasonable. We look forward to going back again.
First time here. Great food and drinks. Servers were attentive. Will surely go back with some friends.
I ordered the lobster ravioli, which turned out to be just 5-6 small pieces of ravioli in an ocean of tomato paste, hardly enough for a meal. I ended up having to place another order of a sushi roll, which, like the ravioli, were just ok. The waiter took forever to show up when I tried to place the second order. It was a very frustrating experience, not worth the trip at all.
This place is a great neighborhood restaurant...food is always great and they aim to please. The service is always the best from the hostess to the table servers!! Definitely give it try !!
First time visit for pre show dinner - comedy event at Zarephath Church ( in fact it was recommended by Church!). Overall experience was very good - warm and friendly meet and greet followed by very attentive waiter service. Menu selection was creative and food was very good although the Branzinho special was a little disappointing. Met owners Izzy and Tony as we left and they wanted to make sure we had a good time. Would definitely recommend and assume it is a very popular neighborhood destination. Thank you
Great spot for a business dinner. Tony and the staff delivered great service. The monkfish special was outstanding. The environment was lively and a solid overall experience.
We had an early reservation and brought our child with the grandparents..they could not accommodate us better !! They made sure our son ate ..and had all his needs met..really allowing us to enjoy our experience ! This place is our favorite and while It’s usually a date night spot for us it quickly became a new family favorite!
Though service was good waiter was a bit robotic. Food was just average highly salted. The steak sandwich was chewy not great. Best thing was the spinach salad but that was overpriced. Maybe we should have had sushi???
Awesome ...service great....bar tender Linda fabulous!
Awesome as always !! The food is great!! The service is wonderful!!! Our favorite place !!
I found this place on opentable when I was heading from NYC to NJ to visit friends. Growing in up in East Brunswick, I never heard of South Bound Brook. The reviews were great to figured I'd try. Def did not disappoint. The service was excellent and the food matched up. My friends and I had a delicious dinner and were well taken care of by Tony, the manager, who was super accommodating and our waiter was wonderful, and the chef came over to check on us as I had one with a food allergy and 1 picky eater at my table. We all left happy and satisfied!! I highly recommended whether you live in the area or not. It was worth the drive and I look forward to going back!! This was a great find and thank you to those who wrote the reviews before me...So glad I went!
Great place to get together with coworkers and friends. Sushi bar and good menu along with specials by Chef Jimmy.
fantastic food, service...be sure to order from the specials that evening as they are eclectic and delicious! We were there for a business meeting. OH, do try their specialty cocktails! I had the smoked Manhattan....O M G
Fantastic all around! I will say the sushi was the weakest point but it was still great! We’re just picky. Would definitely recommend!
Love this place! great food and the staff is always very Friendly!
Really great service at the bar, including a complimentary Sophie roll! Will definitely go back when I trave that way again.
This is a wonderful restaurant. Upscale and awesome food. The entire staff is like a family, and they are open and friendly with the customers.
First we were greeted by two pleasant guys, and brought to our private room. After that everything went wrong. The waiters took entirely to long to do any and everything. We asked for a replacement fork before he apps came, the fork came after the apps were already eaten. Later we receive our food which was not delightful. two different waiters were helping us and it was very clear that they didn’t communicate amongst themselves. I brought in my own cake for my partners birthday and they put the cake on the plate, that’s it. No forks no plates not even a knife. Then on the menu it’s said that gratuity is added to parties over 6. There was 7 of us. So i pay not even looking at my receipt. Then we were followed out of the restaurant asking NO TIP !? Yelling from the door to us on the sidewalk. Oh I’m sorry i was following your policy. NEVER AGAIN. Now I’m a hairstylist, i do customer service all day everyday. One even if you are not tipped you do not confront any customer, EVER. Before speaking self reflect did i give the best experience i can ? I do understand we are a crowd in our mid twenties but i do work amongst very elite and conservative executives and celebrities and it’s kind of insulting not being given any respect.
This place was great! I was looking for a new spot that had a varied menu and drink list. This place ranged from sushi to burgers to italian and everything was amazing. I was expecting with the wide range of food styles we would have to settle for average food but that was NOT the case. The drink menu was just as impressive and everything was great.
It did get a little loud at some points as the bar crowd started to gather around 8pm. But if you don't need absolute quiet, I would definitely recommend!
I will definitely be stopping here again.
Ovations never disappoints!! Always friendly, always delicious and always a great experience!! Looking forward to my next visit!!
Another wonderful experience at Ovations. The combination of excellent food & drink coupled with wonderful service makes this a can’t miss place. Since this time was for a business meeting, we kept things on the simpler side with sandwiches, etal that did not disappoint. The martini selection, remain expansive and everyone enjoyed their selection. Will be back again for sure.
Went to Ovations with colleagues for a birthday lunch celebration. The food was excellent and the drinks were outstanding. Service was also very good. Tony, who greeted us was very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
Good food for our business meeting. Service was good.
New Year’s Eve, limited menu, wouldn’t recommend it.
The food was very good, but over priced for the portion size. In addition, the prices on the menu did not match what we were charged on our bill. For the money we spent, we would have gone to a nice steak house.
Ovations is a must try!! We drove by it dozens of times before we finally said " lets go". That was about three years ago and we hate going anywhere but here. Service is impeccable from the greeting at the door to the service at the table. There is always someone watching to make sure you have a drink or any other need you may have. We have eaten all over and being from NYC we are foodies..this place would have no problem in little italy or any big metro area. Jimmy the chef caters to all needs and will even come out an talk to the guests. At this point we have tried everything from Soups --dessert on the menu. We do fancy the specials. My husband insists on the soup everytime we come even when its 100 degrees out. He is also a big fan of the sushi menu. Overall this place is fun Girls night--Date night-- just want good food night! Don't miss the risotto or the fried calamari..or tiramisu . One more note everyone we bring says " Why have I not found this place sooner" Toni-Arbor-Jimmy- and all the fabulous staff really make your experience wonder evening out!!
Excellent service. Menu was diverse. Quant local restaurant with a very nice ambience!
First time, staff couldn't have been friendlier, and made a good impression on my potential client. A bit noisy, but it was due to the time of year, and I felt lucky to get in. I will come back, no doubt about it. It is also close to my office, so will continue to have my lunch/business meetings there.
The food was amazing and the staff were exceptional!! Overall wonderful experience!!
Ok...It all starts when you walk in the door and you are welcomed like an old family friend. I actually think I have a family I didn’t know about before. Such a great menu that is half Italian and half sushi...strange, but great! So, the 5 stars really fall on Tony and the wait staff. Ask Tony to concoct a shot for you. Even if you’re not a shot kind of person, it’ll be worth it. The attention he and the other wait staff gave was amazing. Seriously, it’s like a big, funny, boisterous family meal without the sibling rivalry or fights over politics. Ask for Tony...just do it.
The food and service is always good. The ambiance is nice but it was a bit loud.
We had a wonderful meal at Ovations. We have been here a few times and have enjoyed it every time. The food and service are excellent.
Ovations offers a warm and inviting ambiance coupled with welcoming service so it doesn't disappoint when the uber creative menu delivers on 4 star cuisine . A symphony of flavor for the palette! Highly recommend for all occasions.
We had a great experience at Ovations. Tony greeted us as we entered and checked in later to make sure we were happy with our service. The shrimp and scallops with risotto was delicious.
Staff at Ovations made our group of eight feel welcomed from the door. Great drinks, appetizers of choice/taste. We had a vegan, a no-carb, a non-pork, and a gluten-free diet to contend with, and the chef handled it superbly!
We are new to the Jersey area since July, and we have tried several restaurants in our new area. This is definetely on the top of our list. Will try their 'sister' restaurant 'Social' this coming weekend.
Our experience was wonderful from start to finish. Our wait staff and the owner were very attentive throughout the meal. Food was delicious! Definitely recommend!
