The buffet was spectacular and the service outstanding. Thank you Ovations for a wonderful pre-show experience!!
So overpriced for what you get. True, the food is better than it used to be, but still....Convenience is the big drawing card.
Full disclosure: I am not a big fan of buffets since I find it seems to be hard to maintain quality when food is mass-produced. In my opinion, the food was just average tasting at a high price point. Unfortunately, prime location often seems to be attached to mediocre-tasting food. I did enjoy some of the food offerings e.g. mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts, and key lime pie. Our server was very friendly, but also must have been very busy as I would have liked to see her a bit more. Both my husband and I did enjoy the cocktails, and ultimately I would dine here again just for the convenience and the ability to have tasty cocktails so close to the Filene Center. The cocktails inside the Filene Center are not surprisingly very unimaginative. :)
The food was amazing and there was so much variety! Everything was delicious! It’s a little pricy, but worth it. The staff was very welcoming and it was a great way to relax before the concert.
Fabulous selection of salads, starters, main dishes and sides all beautifully presented. Everything we tried was delicious. Nice dessert selection (except we didn't leave room for dessert) Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Had perfect weather so it was a lovely evening to eat dinner outside. Looking forward to returning to Ovations!
If attending a show at the Filene Center this isa convenient place to eat. Note that it is buffet only at $45 per person. If you're looking for healthy choices, I would look elsewhere.
My wife and I had a great time. Food was decent. But, unfortunately, not consistent. They ran out some food and in the rush to get it back in the Buffett they sacrificed on the cooking of it. For example the salmon went from awesome (first sampling) to vastly undercooked (second sampling). That aside, everything else was great.
`Ovations serves delicious food in a beautiful natural setting outdoors. The service is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is a lovely way to gather and visit with friends prior to the specific Wolf Trap performance you are attending. However, it is entirely too expensive . . . particularly for buffet-style food. Eating here - on top of buying tickets for the stage show - makes for a very pleasant but expensive evening out.
We have eaten at Ovations numerous times over the years when we have attended special events at Wolf Trap. It is a good alternative to picnic eating, but it has gotten so expensive that convenience is no longer a primary consideration, and food quality (while good) is hardly worth the cost. We are disappointed as we are no longer of a "picnic" age, and will plan on eating elsewhere prior to future performances.
It is great to try once but very expensive and it is a buffet. The food is okay, not very hot. A great variety but not hot and there is a wait time for them to replenish. Serve is slow. The view is amazing and it was relaxing to sit and enjoy before the show.
Food was tasty. However, the food wasn’t replaced in a timely manner. The salmon and watermelon seemed to always be empty. One had to circle the entire buffet table to decide ones options. At times, it led to chaos as people were bunching up waiting to serve themselves. Not enough room between the 2 buffet tables.
Side dishes were tasty and abundant. Proteins could use improvement. Brisket was gray and unappetizing. Desserts would be vastly improved with the addition of ice cream to accompany the cobbler and cookie selection. Friendly service and convenient and pleasant setting.
Concert. The buffet was fantastic. Jose Andres is doing a great job.
I checked the menu online prior to making a reservation. It did not show a buffet. It was order from a menu. My party consisted of 3 'senior' women. One of whom is 80 years old with a very small appetite. She probably did not eat $10.00 worth of food. The other two did not eat anywhere near $45.00! My $13.00 glass of wine was quite small; 4 ounces at most. I don't mind paying well for high quality food & service but neither was high quality. The food was average, dessert that I had was poor and service was not good. We had to get the server's attention every time we needed something. He kept forgetting what we asked for and we had to ask 2 or 3 times. We were not overly needy. Perhaps he was new or perhaps you are understaffed. I will definitely not dine in Ovations again, nor will my companions. We will dine before we get to Wolf Trap. $45.00 is entirely too much for what we experienced.
Sadly, this is a buffet meal and you can not individual items. If you like comfort food and all you can eat before a show, this is the way to go. Get there early so you can sit and enjoy the evening before the show begins. Sadly, coffee and tea are extra. For our visit, the shrimp, pulled pork, green bean casserole, bean salad and hush puppies were the stand-out items.
Great location to meet up, eat and stroll to the concert. Ally was our server and she was friendly and simply outstanding! I loved the shrimp, brisket and all of the veggies.
Some say $45 is to much for a buffet, but I really did not mind the price. The food selection was great, not overwhelming and the food taste great. Yes you have to pay for drinks seperate, I would have liked if tea or coffee was included in the price.
We enjoyed great food before a great concert!
Wonderful. The food was great!
Ovations was convienent, the food OK. The brisket was dry and the pork fatty. For the price I expected better.
Love Jose Andres!
A perfect way to begin a perfect evening.
(If a little on the pricey side.)
Great food, great service. Terrific atmosphere. A perfect start to our concert evening at Wolf Trap.
For a vegetarian, there was plenty of amazing side dishes that were anything but side dishes.
Beautiful night. Great food and a great way to get ready for a show.
Dinner was very good. I loved it all. Ate too much.
Outstanding dinner at Ovations before Wait Wait Don't Tell Me on 29 August!
Great service by Jesse, the part-bartender, part-waiter since the college staff had mostly returned to school late in the season! No problems, no delays in exceptional service even with fewer staff -- we even got to see Chef Jose Andres in the restaurant shortly before he was the special guest on Wait Wait!
Looking forward to more visits to Wolf Trap and to Ovations -- keep up the great work and continue to seat guests who arrive before 5:30!
Ovations is the perfect place to begin your Wolftrap evening. I make it a habit. One of us has mobility challenges, the weather was extraordinary in this outside venue on an August night. We loved all of it even before we got to the performance. Scrumptious!
FOR A RESTAURANT AT SUCH A LARGE VENUE AS WOLF TRAP - YOU CANNOT GO WRONG. THE FOOD OVERALL WAS PRETTY GOOD. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A TUCH HOTTER, BUT THEY WERE REPLENISHING THE BUFFET CONSTANTLY AND THERE WAS A VARIETY OF CHOICES FOR EVERY ONE. THE ONLY AREA THEY NEED IMPROVEMENT IS THEIR BEVERAGES THEY HAD RUN OUT OF LEMONADE AND DID NOT HAVE AS MANY CHOICES. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE BETTER DESSERTS FOR $45.00 PER PERSON. ALL IN ALL WE ENJOYED OURSELVES.
We were seated 1/2 hour after our reservation time and we were on time for our reservation. Seriously slammed. But food was good and waiter was excellent. Just need to handle reservations better.
Great food and location, but a bit pricey probably because they are the in only resturant at Wolf Trap. The food is great though, so please stay!
We loved it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, thank you! The food was great and the service excellent.
Barbecue-style buffet, nothing fancy. Easy eats pre-concert.
Great food that is served and kept hot using heated trays. For those of you who are wining about the cost, you should go out and shop for jumbo shrimp, brisket, etc - good quality food ain't cheap. So next time pack a picnic!! The salad selection is superb - the key lime is tasty - but best of all is the cheerful service by the professional staff of servers - and yes leave them a nice tip - what a fine way to give our up-and-coming generation a little financial boost.
The food was excellent and there was a great selection. It's a bit steep at $45 -- how much food can you really eat?
This was a very poor experience because the food was fair and the price is out of sight for what you get. The noise level was so loud we couldn't even conduct conversation and we were seated on an aisle where the waiters were rushing back and forth. If you were desperate for a place to eat at Wolf trap I guess I would suggest this, otherwise bring your own picnic or find another place to go.
My husband and I enjoyed the buffet at Ovations prior to the concert at Wolf Trap. There was a good selection of entrees and sides, as well as salads and desserts. It was surprisingly noisy, given that there are no “walls.” The wine selection was limited and bottles were over-priced.
Your drinks are a bit pricey. the buffet is also but i think it's an ok value for the food that's offered & the quality of it. The drinks are too much though. we paid $60 for a carafe of magaritas (about 4 1/2 glasses). it's just very steep.
Food was excellent. Service was also great. 2 of us ate dinner prior to a concert and the bill was over $100- with tip included was close to $125. It was buffet service so I feel it was rather expensive for buffet.
Outstanding dinner with our friends at Ovations before the Sting show! Great service from Susan, great food and an overall terrific experience!
Appreciate being able to be seated and order a cocktail before our 5:30 time for reservation -- makes a huge difference to be seated and comfortable and with a cocktail if we should arrive a few minutes early!
