When we arrived at 6:15pm, we were only the 2nd party there and only about 1/5 of the place was set up for service. The hostess was wearing "Juicy" brand sweats and seemed more interested in her phone -- kind of depressing first impression, overall. The buffet had a good selection and even some interesting options, but I imagine the food is being brought in and is not cooked on-premise. They need to figure out how to keep everything hot. Most items were room temperature at best. The (cold) spiced shrimp were decent and the fried catfish too (catfish was not hot, but still crunchy and tasty). Desserts would have been better if purchased from Costco -- very lackluster rice pudding, cookies, and brownies. Trusted this place would be nice for my wife's birthday before heading over to the concert ... but we definitely won't be returning.
Excellent food as always. We prefer the Neyla offerings, as we're not so much into fried (Southern) food
It was our first time at Ovations last Saturday and it didn't disappoint; excellent first impression and location, as we were going to the Gipsy Kings concert at the Wolftrap after the meal. The food selection and the presentation were great. On the other hand, there are way too many tables on the dinning room, so it's hard to go from the buffet to the table; it feels crowded, and the service was not up to par with the rest of the offering; it was disjointed and [unfortunately] our server was not able to communicate properly with us in English. Overall, very good. We'll be back.
The food was absolutely wonderful! Their coffee machine was broken and since it was the last meal of the season they hadn't replaced it. Coffee would have made the meal absolutely amazing!
The service was not good at all. It's a buffet so the waitstaff should be removing used plates when we go to the buffet. Our plates piled up two deep. Also we had to ask for refills on our water, didn't get them, so I took a glass of water from a table that had been set up but was unoccupied. Then it was a lengthy wait to get our bill. With that being said... the food made it worth it all!
Food was just okay, servers were friendly. Thought overpriced but since it was right there at Wolftrap it was convenient for walking to the show.
Run, do not walk from this place. The food is terrible, service spotty at best, and all is horrifically over priced. The only positive is the location/convenience. Do yourself a favor and take the time to organize a picnic from Whole Foods or any of the other great take out spots in the area. We go to Ovations once every year hoping (assuming) things will improve, but they do not. Will never return.
Service suffers after Labor Day...College summer hires have returned to school. As such, table service and Buffet maintenance (slow in refilling food item choices on serving line). Desert table had dwindled to only a couple of remaining items by mid dining. Visited Ovations pre-Labor Day and all was well.....
It is not very allergy friendly. There need to be more options that are free of alliums in my case. I don't see why everything has to have onions and garlic in.
The staff are very helpful but as it is a buffet they are limited in what they can do.
As it is located right on the property of WolfTrap and serves buffet style fare from different area restaurants; my review is simply based upon the evening that I attended and I can't review for following evenings.
the food was good but WARNING - get there early because they don't appear to replenish the food and if it is gone you're out of luck. We arrived at 615 for an 800 show (Steve Martin and Martin Short). By the time we left I could see that a lot of the choices were gone and not replaced.
Very convenient dining for shows at Wolf Trap. Service is friendly. Food is good--nice variety, buffet style, so going back for more is easy. Parking is a challenge, especially after the show. Price is bit high for food and wine.
If you want to dine out and beat the crowd at Wolf Trap AND not carry a full Picnic- this is the only available restaurant. And they know it. It's a $35 buffet with the same food for 2 yrs now. It's just over priced. The food is usually cold when it should b hot, dry when it should be moist and "fancy" when it should just be normal. The spicy shrimp might be the best thing there but messy. The potato salad is watery, the fried chicken cold.
I hope they have new vendors next year.
Horrible service! Seated at a table where 3 of the 4 glasses of water had been used. Asked 3 times and never got water. 20 minutes to get drinks and never saw waiter again until check due. Asked him when he brought the check we waned one for each couple. Just 2 checks. Someone else brought us one check. Tables were so close together you could not get up or move. Had a bad experience with Ovations for a picnic boxes and now dinner. Time to bring the curtain down on Ovations Eat at another restaurant before the show or bring your own food and tailgate. Very disappointing and not a good reflection on Wolf Trap. Interesting as we left Dinner, over 20 people in the picnic line and not moving. Very sad.
Great location as part of Wolf Trap Filene Center, great hillside views for a pre-show meal, several tasty food selections, and getting there early ensures easy-out post-show parking lot departure. But with schools back in session, remaining wait staff was stretched too thin. Took 5-10 minutes before anyone came to our table, and that was after going to the bar to unsuccessfully order drinks there instead. Very good service thereafter, but for $30+ per buffet meal and $11 per cocktail you can have a great meal elsewhere. Not sure of the solution, but value here continues to spiral downward with increasing prices and decreasing selection.
This was only the second time I have dined at Ovations - both were for a meal before a Wolf Trap event. The first time, last year, was far superior to this visit. This time, no staff member came to ask if we wanted a drink - it was only after waving to two people over 15 minutes that we were able to order one. The first person said she would get the drinks, but never did!
Although the night was quite mild, it seemed very chilly in the restaurant - and people who didn't need a jacket/sweater for either the outside weather or the show, were putting them on! Probably the high volume of the fans whirring overhead?
Food much better than average for buffet and setting is perfect when weather is good. In contrast to prior visits service, which consists largely of bringing drinks, was almost absent. Wine took 20 minutes and water refill required a manager. Overall, this was still a positive experience and we will return.
The food is good, but is always the same. I wish they would vary the buffet menu some and add different selections. Only game in town really if you want to dine in advance of a Wolf Trap show.
The food was less than appetizing and at $32.00 pp wasn't worth it. The manager's and servers with their russian accents felt more like you were in the Kremlin. Will NEVER eat there again.
Very few waiters. Food was removed very early for buffet setup. Same food as last two times we were there. I used to like Ovations but not sure if I would frequent it next year. It advertised food from four local restaurants but we only saw the same two and exact same menu four timed
We were very disappointed in our last two visits to Ovations, primarily because of service. There were only three servers for the entire restaurant so water glasses were not filled, my drink order did not arrive until I had finished eating, dirty plates were not cleared at all. The food was fine, the menu does not change much, the only change I have noted was removing the sliders and adding pulled pork.
Ate here because we were seeing a concert at Wolf Trap - waited ages to be seated (only one staff member at the desk)
Service was slow - had to chase around trying to get a drink. The waiter was very accommodating when we finally got hold of him, but again so short staffed that we were almost finished eating by the time we were served a glass of wine.
The upside was that the buffet food was quite good (although could have be hotter), and the surroundings and ambience worth the wait.
My boyfriend and I dined here last week before attending a concert at Wolf Trap. We were seated pretty quickly and assumed a waiter or waitress would come by to take our drink order. That never happened. The meal was buffet style so we served ourselves. The food was good not great but there was alot of variety. We did ask if someone would be taking our dink order and were repeatedly told yes. And we had to ask several times for the bill. When we mentioned all.of this to a waitress she apologized and said that they had been very busy that night...REALLY ?
I would.not recommend this place when there are many other dining establishments in the area.
Ovations is a convenient and pleasant dining choice when visiting the Wolf Trap venue.
Food was Ok. But it was just not with the price. $100 for two people with a drink a piece. It was convenient. First time after coming to Wolftrap for over 15 years.
I'll take the time to pack a picnic from now on or grab a bite on the way at a reasonable cost!!
We booked our reservation based on convenience alone, it was a weeknight and we were all converging after work for a concert. But we were all very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The waitstaff was cheerful and efficient as well. We will be going back!
We have eaten at Ovations many times while going to a show at Wolftrap and have enjoyed it, but the last time we were there, the meal had deteriorated from previous visits. I believe Georgia Brown is the caterer now. When Ridgewell catered it, the meals and varieties were much better than the current setup.
Over all, our meal was very bad and one of our party got very ill after his meal. The varieties have diminished greatly and the taste left a lot to be desired.
I think the $32.00 is too high for the buffet. I did not eat the value of it and neither did my daughter. I will not eat there again, I would rather bring my own picnic. Or I could have purchased from those vendors myself the things I ate for less.
It was our first time there. We ate there before a concert. The food was excellent with plenty of variety, service was fine and the price is right. We plan to return.
We enjoyed celebrating our 41st anniversary in a spectacular way. Could not have had a better first experience!
This place has a great view of Wolftrap park. That is the best part of dining here. Our server was great. The food was just okay though. Not sure the Mediterranean caterer they used this year is right for the Wolftrap patrons. Sticking to American food would probably go over better. The drinks from the bar were horrible. They were out of coffee, which we would have loved since it was a chilly night.
We were seated near the far edge of the restaurant and had stunning views of the park. The mood was relaxed and quiet. The meal was catered by Georgia Brown's and another restaurant with many, many options starting with the appetizers. I especially loved the shrimp! There were so many options right thru dessert. Our server was friendly and attentive. We felt as if we could stay as long as we wanted to and did so. What a great way to kick off an evening at Wolf Trap.
It had been some time since I dined at Ovations, always enjoying the experience. This particular night was not as good. There was no choice except the expensive buffet. The food was good, but I would have preferred being able to select from a menu, as in the past. Service was slow, and when we finally did receive our bill, it was wrong. We were charged for 4 glasses of wine; we only had 2 - one glass each.
Beautiful setting, dependable food and service-easiest way to eat prior to a performance if you are not doing a picnic.
I was very disappointed with our dining experience at Ovations. The service was extremely slow. I would not recommend it to anyone. The food was pretty good, but they definitely need additional staff during peak times. I never saw a manager or anyone overseeing the restaurant.
Nothing spectacular, but pretty view. Buffet dining with marginal food. But was as expected for a venue location restaurant.
Have been to Ovations a number of times. It is most convenient when attending a concert at the Filene Center and generally the food/service is good/very good. This time, however, the service was just atrocious. They typically staff the restaurant with summer college interns, and you could tell they had all left to go back to school. Time to acquire service was very extended, ordered a beer when part of the group sat down and it was never received (nor were the rest of the party asked if anyone else wanted to place a drink order), had to track down servers to get water glasses refilled, dirty plates were never removed, making payment was very difficult, etc.. I get it, but the service was well below acceptable this time around (post Labor Day).
Great convenience for Wolf Trap performances in a lovely setting. Appreciate the quality of the food from Neyla and Georgia Brown, given the limitations of a buffet presentation. Servers did a good job but there are way too few so the tables only get cleared when you ask. We generally don't do buffets (cold, stale food) but this is about as good as it gets as a buffet and we will do it again for the convenience.
We selected Ovations because we had concert tickets at Wolf Trap. We allowed 90 min, which should have been more than enough time. The food was good - buffet style, but really lovely selection. We had a private (not a shared table) which was nice. But it took 20 min for our server to bring us our check. We ended up just leaving cash (and thus less of a tip than I would have with a credit card) because we were going to miss the opening of the show. that added unnecessary stress to a lovely evening. Other tables got their check timely, not sure what happened with our server.
It was very convenient to eat here before concert at Wolf Trap and not have to deal with traffic etc. Quite a selection. Though it was a rainy night it was still good. Look forward to coming back when weather is better.
As others have said, Ovations is OK food but for a very expensive price. However, at 200 feet away from a side entrance to Wolf Trap, one cannot beat the location is you want to sit down instead of picnic.
Great atmosphere ahead of a Wolf Trap Show. Like the southern cuisine and easy buffet format. Good service as well.
