the hostess was wonderful and everything seemed to be off to a good start... we placed an order for drinks and apps and then, 30 min later, we were halfway done with our apps before our drinks even came out (after having asked twice). they comped one drink (interesting) and had an extremely "whatever" attitude about it. the apps were delish (tuna tartar and buffalo cauliflower) but the entrees (fall salad, squash risotto) were very disappointing. when the check came, we had another table's drinks on ours and could not find our server to change. luckily a bartender was able to help us. they also didnt take our opentable giftcard even though we checked beforehand. overall, poor experience - way too many good restaurants in NYC to settle for this place.

My husband and I went to Out East for brunch using a Gilt voucher, which included 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 cocktails. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and very "Instagram-able" with an skylight in the center and plush pink seats. However, the food was underwhelming and they were missing oysters and tuna tartar when we went, which were both items we wanted. The Caesar Salad was good, but overdressed and the Squid Wrap was interesting, not bad, but just not my cup of tea. The Spread and the Lobster Avocado Toast were both bland and overpriced for what we were getting.
Overall, the ambiance was nice, but unfortunately the food wasn't anything to write home about. I might comeback only if I needed a last-minute brunch spot where we didn't have to wait. We went on a Sunday morning around 11:30am (prime bunch time) and the restaurant was pretty empty.

Worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. Had to wait 30 mins for a table, even with a reservation, staff was disorganized, didn’t have half the items on the menu, food was mediocre to bad and slapped on a plate with no regard to presentation

Cool place; very nice waitstaff. But food was disappointing: small portions; scallops were over-salted; cod just not that interesting.

The service was terrible. They kept getting things wrong and leaving things out. We ordered things on the menu because of the descriptions and then when they were served, those things were not included. My fall salad was supposed to have ricotta salatta and fall vegetables and toasted pumpkin seeds. It was a bowl of lettuce with one head of cauliflower, raw, and two slivers of carrot. No cheese. No pumpkin seeds. That's it. $12. That is inexcusable. It was like a diner side salad.

The haddock with smoked clams and clam chowder wound up being cod. Not haddock. with ONE lone smoked clam and a pitcher of a cold fluffy white foam stuff that I really can't say was clam chowder. It wouldn't pour out of the little picture because literally, it was a foam. My spoon did not fit in it. I had to use the back of my knife to scrape it out. I'm not sure what it was. Other than cold. I ordered oysters and they came without the usual condiments. I Assumed they didn't have them until I saw the table next to us had them. So I asked for horseradish and mignonette but by then only had 1 oyster left. A martini with olives was served without olives. You get the picture.

Great interior! At this point there is nothing good I can say about this place.
Food and drinks are grossly overpriced. For brunch:
We were 10 minutes late for our open table reservation and host gave us a lecture that we were supposed to show up on time.
Moreover, they marked us as a no-show on open table, despite staying for an hour.
We payed our ridiculous bill and left a tip for the waitress, despite the food being over salted and mediocre (except for lobster mac n cheese 10/10). Cream cheese with Lox and vegetables for 18!!! Really? I have a feeling that it was just a rip off.

Service was fine but risotto entree was obviously made in advance and was ice cold like congealed oatmeal. By the time it came back other entree was completed. They took it off bill but still.... Smore dessert which have never seen a cold smore (campfire?) bit they said that’s the way it comes.... place Is nice but underwhelmed.

Super instagrammable. From the marble tables to the wallpaper and lighting, everything was prime for picture taking. I came for brunch, and ordered the lobster avocado toast which was divine, though not terribly filling. The cocktails were pricy and delicious. I would come again with a large group (it's way bigger than you'd think), or to impress out-of-towners.

I was very excited to try Out East after coming across their website. And they did not disappoint. The service was great! Our server was extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions. And when somebody in our party’s meal came out a little late, the comped us for the meal. The music and atmosphere was fun for Sunday brunch. Music was a tiny bit too loud for me but not terrible. I was hoping to check out the back part but they were holding a private event. I will definitely be back again!

We loved Out East! Such a gem! It was rather quiet, however we were there on a Monday. Great happy hour menu and everything we had was delicious (happy hour oysters, rose, bae fries, heirloom tomato salad). They also have a great bar and space to host an event.

The service was amiable and efficient. The waiter was knowledgeable about menu and informative. Service was fast The decor was cheerful and had homey details which promoted intimacy. The menu was easy to read and offered a good variety of options. We were there early so the noise level was tolerable and allowed conversation. The food was not exceptional but good. I would definitely go back for a second experience

Came here with 3 friends for a girl's night out. We enjoyed some of the happy hour specials and had a great time. Overall, the food and drinks were OK. What really made the place was the decor. Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience with the manager who wouldn't honor a voucher we got through Gilt ($100 for $150 worth of food) because we came for HH. Even though we had called in advance to check if HH was included in the deal and were told that would be fine. The GM could have apologized but he was unnecessarily rude and essentially accused us of "taking advantage" of him and said he could "live" with us never coming back again. Honestly, it was such a turn off and really ruined our evening.

By far the most disappointing dining experience in NYC to date and I've lived in the city for 9 years. While the restaurant is absolutely stunning, the service and food were abysmal. First, we waited 20 minutes for water to be poured and then had to flag our server down to order drinks. We chose a bottle of white only to be brought a nearly room temperature bottle and then offered a glass of ice to chill the wine. What restaurant suggests putting ice in wine? It was completely shocking - any properly run restaurant would have offered an alternative bottle that was chilled and ready to serve. I actually had to suggest that the server put the bottle in an ice bucket...which before Friday night, I thought was standard procedure.

Next, the food. What drew me to Out East was the seafood-centric menu with many light options. My friend and I love fish, so we picked the tuna tartare and ceviche. What came out was exactly what you would expect from a nightclub or casino, not a high-end contemporary seafood restaurant. The tartare was served on 4 small fried chips with a small spoonful of fish. The ceviche was covered in cream sauce, completely masking the taste of the fish and negating the typically light and aromatic quality of any good ceviche. I had hopes that the clam cacio e pepe would be up to par, but no. The pasta was lukewarm, served on top of our appetizers and contained what I suspect to be canned clams, not fresh. The pasta also was not reminiscent of any cacio e pepe I've eaten before - the pepper and cheese watered down and almost undetectable. Perhaps the worst of all was the 'market' vegetables - a handful of soggy off season veggies that looked like they came from a catering plate at an office function.

I'm almost out of word count, but when asked if we would return to try the fall menu, both my friend and I gave a very sure and unwavering no.

I will continue to share with friends and family that this is the worst restaurant in New York City.

The oysters were delicious and there is a good wine list and Happy Hour is a great deal. But the food is hit and miss. The tuna tartar was excellent, served on spicy chips . The Cesar salad was fine. But the bucatini was disappointing. No whole clams in the shell in this dish as shown on the website, just a few chopped clams at the bottom of the bowl. The clam flatbread was tasty, but it was cold by the time it got to us, so the cheese congealed.

Chic comfort food. Went for brunch. A very well curated menu made it quite difficult to decide what to order. Everything was fresh. They make standard dishes interesting without losing the integrity of the dish. Unique preparation and flavors. Ambiance was quiet enough to have a conversation, but a good vibe.
