Delicious food. Wish they had decaf coffee for dessert since they had no vegan option. Vegan meal was tasty! As was the beet salad. Casual atmosphere, elegant food. We would eat there again.
Our House always has great food and service. The noise level is very low so it is easy to have a conversation. We bring our own wine and there is no corkage fee. We mostly come back to this restaurant because the quality of the food is great, the food combinations are wonderful, and the staff is attentive and friendly.
If you're charging big city prices you should be providing big city quality food, dining experience and service. Our House falls short on all of these except the big city prices. Poor ambiance, mediocre food and uneven service.
Not really a dinner place. I hear lunches are fantastic. For the prices they ask for dinner $24- $30 entrees, I'd expect cloth napkins, table clothes, wine/beer and no vending machines in the dining room.
One of the best meals in San Jose. Simple setting but sophisticated food.
Great local spot with wonderful food and service. Not fancy, just delicious, unique dishes you don't find elsewhere for these prices.
Amazing food. Appetizers, entres, and desserts were immaculate and well thought out. The flavors were fantastic and the price was very reasonable. We had the duck confit and the coho salmon, both cooked to perfection. We will be coming back to try something new on the menu very soon!
We enjoyed our pre-opera dinner at Our House--a Greek salad, hamburger, and crispy salmon over lentils--very much. They serve excellent fare with a complete lack of pretension. Previous OpenTable reviews prepared us for the very basic decor and the absence of wine or liquor, so we came prepared with our own bottle of pinot noir. Our server, the chef's wife, was pleasant and informative. We'll certainly be back.
Although Our House does not have a liquor license, we were able to bring our own wine and not be charged a corkage fee. The menu was small but covered all the bases...meat, fowl, fish. No vegetarian main course, though, which was a bit surprising given the restaurant showcased locally sourced food. My dining companion had the beet salad which was good sized and everyone in the group had the duck leg confit which was very good. We will becoming back here.
Cooked perfectly, can't wait to come back. No fat on duck, nice portions, healthy and gourmet. Awesome. We need more restaurants like this.
All the food was supremely fresh and well-prepared. Especially the mahimahi which was perfectly cooked--not the least bit dry. The salads were top notch, too. We couldn't do dessert, but they sounded great. The sever, Bella, was charming, attentive, and knowledgeable regarding the menu.
I didn't like the 15% gratuity included in the bill for a party of two. I was (and did) tip larger than that, but I prefer to tip in cash--it shouldn't make a difference, but it makes me feel better that the server gets the cash right away with no middle man. In hindsight, I could have probably had paid the non-tip part of the check by credit card, and the 15% and the extra tip all in cash. But I'd rather not have to think that hard.
I really appreciate that you put all your effort into the quality of your ingredients, the creativity of your dishes, and the stellar preparation. I'm definitely bringing other people here and further recommending it. Next time, I know to bring my own wine...and I'm DEFINITELY trying dessert. Great job!
Had salmon on a bed of lentils which was well cooked and yummy
Although food was good it was pricey. Service was OK, but a bit lacking. For instance they had to "check" to determine if they could bring more bread which is automatic at most restaurants of this caliber. They don't validate parking in their building garage. Neighboring restaurants do.
This was our fourth time at Our House. We have never been disappointed. The food and service is great. They do not serve alcohol, but you can bring your own bottle of wine (free corkage). Make sure to try one or two of their salads - always a special treat.
great dinner. don't have alcohol, so might want to bring your own bottle of wine.
This is a very small restaurant with a very small menu. However the food is very well prepared and very well presented. We recommend and would return if in the area.
Tasty meal! Thank you
The food was delicious. The servers were friendly. Low noise level, so easy to have a conversation. This was our third time at Our House. We will come back.
The food was not "piping" hot, also it was served on very cold plates. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A great location if you are going to San Jose Performing Arts Centre.
Just like every review I seen, don't le the sight surprise you,. Great , and super friendly host, awesome food and service is very personal, excellent choices for small menu. Let's just say the person who matters was very happy with food. Very happy. Delicious duck confit. Steak was perfectly cooked. Sides incredible.. Don't just read this.... Go and eat there....
The service and the food really stand out here! I wish I lived closer. We were in town for a show at the SJ Center for the Performing Arts a block away. The restaurant is very small, maybe 10-12 tables, and looks like the kind of place where you order at the counter, but don't let that fool you or stop you. The wait staff is knowledgeable, responsive, and attentive but does not interrupt. We had the veal, the wild coho salmon, and the duck, all enjoyable, and I loved the ancient grain accompaniments. My veal was steaming, falling off the bone, gently seasoned. There is background music playing, not boring or intrusive, although when it started to get more crowded, it was a little harder to hear conversation at our table. A chemically-sensitive person in our party noticed a subtle fragrance in the room--don't know if it was on a patron or incense. I found it unusual that they included a 15% service charge on the bill--I was going to tip higher, but there wasn't a place to add it on. We'll be in San Jose for another show in a couple of months and will definitely eat here!
I don't usually judge a restaurant foremost on its ambiance, but it was hard to ignore this time. I'm not sure if this is the ideal location for Our House, but the ambiance on life support was no match for the attempt at elevated cuisine. The floor was ugly, the tables were run-of-the-mill, the napkins were paper, the decoration was minimal, a TV was playing in the background, the menu was on a TV screen and the space had no intimacy to it. Moreover, we could not order any wine or cocktails. I mistakenly took my wife there on a date and had no idea about this policy. Lacking drinks and ambiance, we went elsewhere for dessert.
On the plus side, the duck confit dish I had was extremely tender, lean and well-salted (it did lack additional depth though). The goat cheese mousse that was part of our salad was my favorite part of our meals. I also appreciated the warmth and personal touch of the owner, she clearly takes pride in her family-run restaurant.
Now if only they could move into a space more suited to their concept and add some real drinks to their repertoire, they'd be on their way!
This is my honest review: Service was great. Food is tasty but the portions are too small for how much you are pricing them at. My kids, husband and I left your restaurant still hungry! And we all ordered adult size meals. We didn't even ordered drinks, or appetizers, or even dessert, and we paid $134.
Your restaurant doesn't have the look of a fancy place so it's very deceiving to go in there expecting to receive a good size portion meal for a good value. Expensive restaurants will at least give you nice quality bread, cloth napkins, and validate parking! I can't believe you don't validate parking when even the the most regular restaurants around the area do! I didn't even see that you have a bathroom in there.
Amazing! Food was fresh and delicious. Service was outstanding. Try the pre fixed menu. Three great courses for $45. I had scallops with butternut squash purée and bacon dust (bacon dust!), truffle burger, and dark chocolate brownie with walnuts. All were amazing! Definitely going back.
Great food. Unusual casual atmosphere. Feels like a quick downtown business lunch place in the dining room which doesn't do the food justice. There hamburger was there best burger I've had in years.
