About Ouisie's Table
Known by generations for her hospitality, proprietress Elouise Adams Jones, a.k.a. Ouisie, serves an eclectic collection of Southern foods with an excellent wine list to match. High ceilings and fans in the main dining room it evoke the ambiance of a Texas manor house. The adjacent dining porch overlooking the patio and garden, as well as Cooper’s Wine Bin, provide additional dining and entertaining areas. The daily fare encompasses traditional offerings like her well-loved pimento cheese, the shrimp and grits, and the popular Gulf Coast oysters to the favorite Tuesday special Ouisie’s award winning chicken fried steak with corn pudding. A fine plate of grilled Prime beef tenderloin or a brace of quail stuffed with super lump crab meat with Cognac glaze are good examples of the daily specials one might find on the blackboard.

Ouisie's Table Ratings and Reviews
Though a bit pricey, the food was incredible. As to be expected with fine dining, portions were smaller, but with a starter, entree, and dessert, I was left sated and satisfied. This was my 15-year old daughter’s first fine dining experience and she loved it. The ambiance was incredible—cool building, cool bar, cool decor. It was a bit loud for 9:00 on a Saturday night, but there was a wedding reception going on in the next room. Even so, my group of girlfriends and I immensely enjoyed the experience. And our waiter was superb! Ask for Farid if you visit Ousie’s!
This was my first time here so other than reading reviews and asking for recommendations on what to order, I was not sure what to expect. I indicated the service was "fair" because after being seated we were not approached by our waitress until about 10 minutes. After she addressed our table, she took our drink orders, which for some reason took another 10 minutes or so to receive. But what was so odd about the situation, is the waitress had a very condescending tone to her. Not quite sure if this is the tone the restaurant is going for, but I was taken aback. Fast forward through dinner, we received the same sub-par service combined with a good meal, which left my opinion of the restaurant ambivalent. I am going to give the waitress the benefit and hope she was having a bad day, and that this is not the tone of the restaurant.
We have been fans of Ouisie’s since it’s original incarnation. We were thrilled when it was reintroduced and, despite the more upscale format, found it very enjoyable. Over the course of the past couple of years, however, we were disappointed with the service and the food. We took a break from going there but our recent visit proved that our the downturn was a short lived event. Our latest visit was excellent! The food, the service, and the overall presentation was as good as it gets! We will return over and over - as we have through so many years!!
Food and table service were great. Disappointment with the welcome by hosts and the lack of coordination around costs. Our departure was delayed by 5-10 min while someone looked for our coats which made the entry very crowded for people waiting on their tables. This could be better. Otherwise, great experience.
We selected this restaurant to celebrate our son obtaining his masters degree. He was in town and we reviewed the brunch menu and the food options looked great. We ordered the crab omelette and it was extremely bland tasting with a small amount of crab or anything else to make the omelette more desirable-very underwhelmed. We asked for pepper to give it seasoning but the dish was horrible. The portion size was okay for me but slightly small for an omelette. My son was still hungry when we left the restaurant which is not an enjoyable dinner or considered a good celebration. The oyster appetizer had a lot of batter you could barely taste the oyster. My husband ordered the soup and pancakes and no feedback which is never a good sign. The staff was pleasant and the Bellini and mimosa was the most enjoyable item we had to toast our son’s moment. When we returned home my son communicated “not what I was expecting”.
I hope this note will help you improve for your next guest.
Why have I been preparing Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas Brunch and Christmas dinner at home all these years? Christmas Eve dinner at Ouisie's was fabulous, festive and made The Christmas Day meals at home much easier for me to plan and prep. We'll be back next year!! 🎄🥂
We were at Ouisies for Christmas Eve. The service was slow and horrible. The food was not edible. My lamb chops consisted of fat only and were dumped in some type of foul tasting sauce which not appropriate for lamb. There was a teaspoon of potato hash and a burnt asparagus scattered on the plate. It looked and tasted bad. My son had the snapper which was cold, not warm but absolutely cold. My husband had the filet which was also cold and drenched in the same foul , bitter sauce. The waitress never came back to check on us so we could return it.
Overall, it was a horrible evening and very disappointing. Over the years, Quisie has gone downhill and I believe it has now hit rock bottom.
Christmas Eve brunch, we went on late end, 1pm. Service was quite slow even though crowd had thinned. Food was ok to good, not great like it can be. Especially the scrambled eggs, overcooked. The drink specials are good and a great value during brunch or other occasions (happy hour? not sure about that.) Reservationist was wonderful when we called to ask if we could switch to 1pm instead of 11:45a. Like I said, it was a little less busy but the service was on the slower side. Would still go back but not on a common special occasion date.
The atmosphere, service and food never disappoint at this Houston treasure! My only regret is that we don’t eat here more often. Our meals were perfectly prepared and we thoroughly enjoyed another wonderful evening at Ouisie’s.
I really enjoy the main dining room's ambience over the holidays... but have yet to be impressed with my meal. I treated my mother for her birthday this week. When the waiter heard it was her birthday, he offered her a celebratory glass of champagne when she ordered an iced tea. It sounded like a complimentary gesture and she was really in-awe over it... I was, too, until it showed up on the bill :)
We did a long lunch at Ouisie's on the recommendation of a friend with some time to spare post-Christmas with Family and before heading to the airport. Our reservation time was promptly respected. The dining experience was delightful. Service was prompt and efficient. We each had a different salad, one the special and me the crab Caesar -- both were delicious. We did a bottle of wine, a delicious rose. This would be great for a business lunch place, but also very much a place for "ladies that lunch". When back in Houston we hope to visit again.
I was quiet disappointed in my birthday brunch at your establishment. I have dined in the past in the garden and was looking forward to another wonderful dining experience. However, we were placed in the overfill room which has no ambiance whatsoever. The two other parties sharing the room with us were quiet loud. We had to practically scream to hear each other converse. The waitstaff would not serve us drinks, bread or take an order of hors d'oeuvres until the remaining of our party arrived. Why seat us if we cannot enjoy a drink and snack? The service for the remaining of our meal was lacking. We had to ask twice for our beverage, the ketchup never came, and they rarely checked on us. We felt like we were second rated guests.
This was all quiet a shock and very disappointing considering your upstanding reputation as one of Houston's great restaurants.
Unfortuntatly, I hesitate in even thinking of returning which saddens me because I would love to continue experiencing the way Ouisie's once was with my daughters as they continue to grow up in our wonderful city.
My first time here on Sunday. The waffles & chicken were not good. The food was not fresh. I chose not to send it back because my time was restricted. I was wondering if it was because it was a busy day. This is my 3rd time here & the food was good the first two times.
Everyone’s food was very good. However, our reservation was set well in advance for seven people in a quiet location yet upon arrival we were crammed into a table fit for six. We requested to be moved which they politely accommodated. While the new location was slightly more quiet, the table was no larger and I spent the entire meal crammed at the into a table end. As this was a celebration for my wife’s 50th Birthday I let it ride as to not upset her evening. They should have simply declined a party of our size or suggested a different time a slot.
I made the reservation back in April. Am I glad I did since there was other parties going on. I had made 7pm reservations, but they asked if I was willing to switch to 6pm which I did. Well traffic was bad on I-45 & my wife & I made it 30mins late. But it was worth it since we were celebrating our 19yr anniversary. Once we got there we were seated in the VIP room which I would describe as more of a wine cellar. It was tucked away from all the kitchen noise & other parties going on. Service by our wait staff was outstanding & the food was great. We will be back for a future anniversary or a special occasion
