Southern
Known by generations for her hospitality, proprietress Elouise Adams Jones, a.k.a. Ouisie, serves an eclectic collection of Southern foods with an excellent wine list to match. High ceilings and fans in the main dining room it evoke the ambiance of a Texas manor house. The adjacent dining porch overlooking the patio and garden, as well as Cooper’s Wine Bin, provide additional dining and entertaining areas. The daily fare encompasses traditional offerings like her well-loved pimento cheese, the shrimp and grits, and the popular Gulf Coast oysters to the favorite Tuesday special Ouisie’s award winning chicken fried steak with corn pudding. A fine plate of grilled Prime beef tenderloin or a brace of quail stuffed with super lump crab meat with Cognac glaze are good examples of the daily specials one might find on the blackboard.
Lunch and dinner daily, brunch on weekends.

Waiter was very slow, messed up soup order, took forever to collect credit card from our table and was clearly not engaged in providing best service. Very disappointing experience.

Food was great, but the service was lacking more than normal. We waited extended periods of time for our waiter each time we needed him.

Always reliable and good. We were there for brunch and it seemed more noisy than usual. Still a great choice!

Free Slice of Birthday Cake.....
Wonderful food, lots of choices (food and beverages). Piano player and white linen table cloths.
One of my most favorite places to dine.

Loved the Greek salad with salmon!
Wished they still had the artichoke/poblano soup that was available several weeks ago...

The food was outstanding. Unfortunately our waiter Cecilio was awkward and lacking perception. He left us alone for long blocks of time including for over half an hour after we had asked to see the dessert options. He asked me how much our bottle of wine was on the menu. It was strange and even amusing but not the caliber of service that I’d expect from a nice restaurant like Ouisie’s Table.

We selected Ouisie’s for my sister’s 60th birthday because it has always been one of her favorite places to celebrate and is usually consistently good. We were seated at a lovely table in the center of the main dining room, which I had requested, and sat for probably 10 minutes before anyone came over to take our drink order although we were served bread pretty quickly. Our waiter had another large table and another medium sized like ours he was tending to and seemed overwhelmed. Whenever he approached our table he didn’t give us time to get our questions/needs answered before he ran off to do something else and then it was a good while before he came back by. At one point I looked around to see where he was and another server came to the table to ask if we needed something. Then our regular waiter appeared. We had a vegetarian and a vegan at our table, and unfortunately the menu doesn’t offer a lot of options for either. My vegetarian sister wanted the vegetable risotto but was told it’s prepared with chicken broth and is pre-prepared so couldn’t be made without. She then asked about mashed potatoes and was told the same, prepared with chicken broth. She finally ended up ordering spinach and some other potato side the waiter recommended that did not have chicken broth. Not much of a meal. Even the dishes under the Vegetarian Dishes section of the menu are not truly vegetarian, as we were told the rice in the paella is also prepared with chicken broth unless you tell them you’re vegetarian. My niece ordered that assuming it was truly vegetarian, as she should have been able to with any dish listed in a “vegetarian dishes” section of a menu. When we inquired after it was brought to the table, we were told since he knew she was Vegan, if he wrote it down is should definitely not have been made with chicken broth. But if it’s a “Vegetarian Dish” according to the menu, most vegetarians would trust that it truly is whether they mention being a vegetarian or not.

NYE. Early dinner with daughters. Food was excellent! It was cold and our table was right next to the door but when asked if we. Could shift the table over a few feet, our request was immediately met and then follow up on was that better. Much appreciated! Highly recommend

Festive holiday decor, creative lunch menu, and fantastic service. We had a reservation and were seated quickly despite the restaurant being super busy with a holiday lunch crowd. My swordfish was perfectly cooked. The service was expertly timed. I've had dinner at Ousie's several times but this was my first lunch there and I will definitely go again.

I had high hopes for Ouisie's Table as I'm a big fan of State of Grace. Unfortunately they were not fulfilled. The space itself lacks any sort of intimacy or quietness. It's a big, square room with a very tall ceiling. No booths, just stand alone tables. Think converted dance hall rather than something that works well for a restaurant. The decor is nice but there's only so much you can do with a big square room. The food was a mixed bag: the escargot appetizer special was fantastic and not the usual scorching hot swimming in garlic butter you get at most places, even fine dining restaurants. I followed that with a caesar salad, which was fine. My main course was supposed to be halibut but five minutes after ordering it our server returned to the table to inform me the halibut was 86'd. The recommendation was to substitute snapper with the same preparation, which I wish I had not done. They are quite different fish and the halibut preparation was the wrong choice for the snapper. Dessert was a pot de creme, which was ordered without the whipped cream and brought to the table with the whipped cream. A lapse in attention to detail that was sort of typical of the overall experience. The best part of dinner was the wine, a nice Montrachet, which was excellent. However, white/sparking/rose make up only 1/4 of the wine list (the other 75% being red wines) so some more variety there would be much appreciated. Overall the dinner was meh, neither great nor awful. I will be back and this time I'll try some of the land meats and a red wine and hope for a better experience.

It is usually quiet and intimate. We went on a night that they were hosting The Houston Rodeo with a DJ and it was too loud to even talk or hear each other.
Ordinarily it is wonderful. Just check during the holidays if they are having a big event.
