Otto's on the River
Waitress/hostess was very awkward. Food was good. Small portions.
under impressed with the overall menu and one dish was less than expected. I cannot particularly recommend this restaurant with some many others to choose from (both near and a bit further away).
Ottos on the river was outstanding! Loved the bread tray, our entrées were excellent, dessert was superb along with the service which made Ottos an outstanding choice for us and I think it will for you as well.
We ate at Otto's at lunchtime on a Thursday. It was quiet and slow paced, which was what we like. We had to go all the way into the bar to find someone to tell us where we could sit, since it was our first visit. Our server was polite. The food was really good. Our meals came out slower than we would have liked considering there were only two other tables occupied, but not an overly long wait. Overall we really enjoyed the food, unique decor, and city/river views. A friendly greeting at the door would have been welcomed and we only saw our server and no other restaurant staff, so it was a little impersonal. But, that was not a deal breaker. We would go back again and do recommend it!
the ambience and service were phenomenal. the food could have had more flavor in it. we had the fruti de mare and it was kind of bland. the duck was amazing. i would come back and try a different dish.
they brought a candle out for my daughter's bday and everything was perfect.
our waitress was very sweet and accomodating.
Our main objection was that my wife and I ordered an appetizer and were less than 50% finished when our entrée came to the table. The server apologized, but none the less was inconvenient. Also our server did not refill our water glasses and had to be reminded about my second glass of wine that I had ordered. This experience is unfortunate because our first experience 6 months prior was excellent.
Had lunch outside with my daughter and mother. Day was beautiful and food was excellent!
Wonderful ambiance very good dishes nice service
I always get excited when a restaurant has a vegan dish on the menu, but this was not palatable. While I do not mind paying for the option of having a vegan item, however, the price of the dish was outlandish for what was served and the quality. My husband had the scallops and felt they were OK, but the polenta and asparagus they were served with were cold and he couldn't eat more than a bite.
I was disappointed in the experience. The restaurant is cute, and in a fun location but the food was not worth the price. I would not go back. We tried the restaurant because friends that had dined there earlier in the year had recommended, but our food did not compare at all to their experience.
Wonderful evening! We will be back! Lovely venue, menu and great service. We ate outside on the patio. But I also loved the interior decor and bar area.
We made reservations the day before on Open table. We had hoped to sit outside, but the table was in the sun and they would not give us a table in the shade. We ordered seafood casserole. We were disappointed with the seafood/ breadcrumb ratio. Not enough actual seafood and too many breadcrumbs. I would not go back.
Good food waitress chewing gum not a good combo but it’s maine
It took an hour to receive the food and the restaurant was nearly empty on a Friday night. The food arrived cold, over cooked, and under seasoned. The waitress was accommodating and brought the salmon back to be refired, which only took 10 minutes, but we didn’t eat our meals together because the other dish would have been cold. I do not recommend this as a date night.
Ottos: service is slow, food is just OK. But ambience is great ... and there r so few choices.
Steak was prepared to perfection
Duck was excellent
Drinks were perfect and
dessert was excellent.
Also, our waitress was attentive but not overbearing.
Go go go ...
Service was a little slow because the restaurant was unusually busy for a Wednesday night but we were relaxed and ready for a slow and well cooked fresh meal (and did not want "fast food"). Everything was freshly made and delicious. The waitress was very kind and apologized many times for the wait (and gave us a free extra glass of wine) even though we never complained or became impatient. We were happy to relax and take our time. The other times we ate there were not slow at all in serving us.
Evening only. Apparently the dining section is not opened during lunch near the bar. Disappointed. Requested table overlooking the water. The dining area was closed off.
For party of 6 service was excellent. Modern ambiance with equally modern dish ware and utensils. Modern takes on entrees mixed results. Brussels sprouts with pancetta quite good but perhaps a bit too much pancetta. Chicken marsala very good but served in boat shaped bowl with excessive sauce. Stuffed haddock good but not exceptional. Seafood casserole quite good. One in our party thought chicken cordon blue tough and not good at all. Roasted garlic, Olive oil, hummus, and butter are provided with fresh bread. Its on the river but no great views. Would be happy to go back but be need to be selective.
Open Table suggested Otto's On The River to me while we were vacationing on Worthley Pond in the Rumford area. It was an hour's drive, but my wife and I decided to try it. It was a nice place, artsy in an attractive way, but the main dining room was closed for some reason and the advertised river views from the deck were a bit awkward and were certainly "obstructed" (by the railing) for my wife who is 5'2". We certainly enjoyed the Strawberry Cream Gazpacho and my lobster roll was good, but not great. Butter Cake dessert was different (we had never had butter cake before) but enjoyable, we think (I guess we're still deciding). All in all, the whole experience wasn't worth driving an hour for. Next year (or next week) we'll just head back to Maurice in Paris - only 35 minutes away.
We arrived at the restaurant for dinner and were seated at a table at the window. We were promptly served our beverages. We waited a sufficient amount of time and ordered. From this point everything went downhill. After a good 30 minutes we asked for our salads and refills on drinks. After another 30 minutes we had to ask about our dinners. They arrived a little later but were certainly not worth the wait! The poached lobster was rubbery and the other entrees were not at all what I would have expected. In all, we spent an hour and forty five minutes for a mediocre dinner. I would not recommend this place.
Surprisingly good food, beautiful location and great service. Will def be going there again.
This is the 2nd time my husband and I dined at Otto's. Both experiences included very friendly staff and delicious food. The bar area is fun and playful. The dining room provides a romantic atmosphere. The owner came around and greeted us and to make sure we were being well taken care of. We will dine again.
The meal was outstanding. Great service made the evening perfect.
nice selection of food, appetizers were good, salads fresh, very clean and the main courses were very nice. It's Augusta Me, not exactly mid town Manhattan, not an inexpensive place but it's worth a try.
Fantastic meal and great service. I travel for work and dine at various eateries--Otto's on the River is on par with the best. Augusta should proud of this restaurant! You must try it and support the local business that is supporting downtown Augusta. Go and Enjoy a great dining experience!
My wife and I are new to the Augusta area. We've been trying various restaurants within the community to establish a few go to places for when our friends come to visit. I had read good reviews about Otto's so we decided to come to Otto's on July 4. It was nice out so we asked for outdoor seating. We ordered drinks. My wife asked for a pomegranate marguerite which the bartender indicated he could make but came back indicating the they were out of pomegranate and would she like a strawberry marguerita instead which he made and she liked. I ordered the closest beer to a lager they had. We ordered bacon wrapped scallops and shrimp and a shrimp and lobster cocktail for appetizers and green pea raviolis and the Frutti de Mer as entrees. Unfortunately they bough both the appetizers and entrees at the same time which was awkward. The bacon was over done on scallops and the lobster in my cocktail didn't taste that fresh. My wife liked her entrée as did I except that the description on the menu for the Frutti de Mer listed mussels and clams as well as lobster fish and shrimp. There were no mussels or clams, fortunately they gave me a lot of shrimp which saved the dish for me. I have to say we were disappointed with our visit and don't feel it's a place we would take our friends.
We dined on a Sunday night so not busy in the restaurant; service was very attentive and the food was good. We ordered a Caesar Salad and a Salad with blueberries, etc. Main courses were the grilled scallops and the crab stuffed haddock- both were good but the scallops were the best choice.
We’ve throughly enjoyed our two dinner visits here where we allowed ourselves time to relax in the intimate, inviting bar area before heading into to the tasteful, art fill dining area. We loved the soft jazz playing in the background. The menu is full of fresh flavor and delicious food choices from gorgeous salads to unique appetizers to wonderful main meals. We have been following a keto diet for over 1 year now. Not only did our server know what that meant, she also made some wonderful suggestions on how we could make menu substitutes to fit our needs. We sincerely appreciate the chef and server working with us. We’ll definitely keep this on our favorite places list.
This is the third or fourth time we have been there and this year's menu is better than last and the prices more in line with what we expect. Debbie was a fantastic and attentive server and the quality of food and presentation were outstanding. Wonderful decor and comfortable.
The filet mignon was not worth $32 and was slathered in brown gravy, not listed on the menu and a horrible treatment of such a good cut of meat. Everything was under seasoned and rather pedestrian. The food wasn’t bad but certainly not worth the price. We were not offered dessert and could not even find a dessert menu. Experience was disappointing to say the least.
Fabulous in all aspects of food, service and ambiance. We have been to many upscale restaurants all over the country and this Ottos can compete with any of them. Thank you for a fabulous Anniversary celebration!
A lovely new space for Augusta, I was looking forward to some special cuisine in an city packed with chain restaurants. Otto's was busy as it was a Saturday night. They were obviously not upstaffed for a busy evening: we waited about 10 minutes for the hostess to greet us and take us to our reserved table. We waited again for a waitress to take our drink orders. The bread was delightful, the appetisers very nice and the blueberry salad superb. But the stuffed haddock was dry. My husband had the Filet Mignon, which he enjoyed immensely. All in all, not really worth the cost of the evening.
Nice table with view of the river. I liked the breads and different spreads like butter, olive oil, hummus.
I had a salmon with a citrus topping. It was tasty but not excellent. More bland that I expected. I liked the fiddleheads and the greens.
The rice was good looking but tasteless.
That's all. No dessert.
Total bill $30 with no beverage.
It's a nice place in Augusta. Thank you.
First time at Otto's, it was a wonderful birthday experience.
Took way to long to get our drinks. Appetizers arrived and didn't have time to get half done and Lunch arrived. Food was overcooked and some vegetables looked and tasted as if it came from a can. We had 3 individual checks and not one had the proper information on them. We were there for Thanksgiving and had a great meal. Unfortunately, after this one, we will not be returning.
Delightful spot with warm friendly yet professional service. Overall the food was very good with a few minor misses. While the Caesar salad was technically delicious, the dressing had to carry the day by itself as the romaine was not as fresh and green as it should have been. The scallops were perfect: well seared, nicely sauced and not overcooked. The asparagus that accompanied it was, like the lettuce, not as fresh as it should have been. Farm vegetables are obviously not available in Maine in May, but better quality is available. The creme brulee sported a first class custard but was a bit skimpy on the brulee. It was, none the less, delicious. Our server was wonderful. We will definitely return when the availability of local vegetables will no doubt correct the minor lapses we experienced.
I loved the atmosphere. Nice tables and warm, friendly staff. Excellent menu options and drinks. I had the special which was stuffed sweet potato with black beans, pineapple served with jicama fries and chicken with mole sauce. Very tasty and large portion - I took half of it home. I look forward to going back.
Party of 11 for a birthday celebration. Otto's scored 11 out of 11 happy diners.
Amazing food, attentive staff and wonderful ambience. The owner even baked a cake for our celebration.
It was our second visit with a large party and definitely not our last.
Second visit. Still not impressed. Every thing was okay but nothing was special. I expect more at their prices
excellent food and service and the location was easy to find and located to all the state places
