Love the whole place.
Comida deliciosa, ruido excesivo
The food was mediocre - pizza margarita was soggy with sauce - crust pale and undercooked. Pasta’s were okay. Our waitress forgot about a drink for one of our guests and acted bothered when we reminded her - unfortunately the drink-less person had finished her dinner by the time it was served. I just think overall it was lackluster - the price point was low for NYC and maybe I just expected too much. I wouldn’t return.
I’ve been to Otto several times before and have always had great service. But this time, it was an exception. The server was quite rude in general. Also, the many states that you can get 3 cheeses for $15. When we tried to order, the server said that those were pre-decided by the chef. One of those cheeses included Gorgonzola, who one of our dinners is allergic to. So we kindly asked if it could be replaced by a different cheese instead, and the server replied with a strong NO. We ended up not ordering the cheese, which was quite frustrating since first of all, they should be more accommodating and second, the menu should state then that the 3 cheese for $15 is a pre-selection, which is not stated at all!!!!!!
Quite disappointed with the service which rendered the whole dinning experience not optimal. I was bringing my niece and nephew to dine here for the first time, and this will definitely be our last! With so many restaurants in NYC, I won’t be coming back to a bad service!
Nice dinner. Delicious squash ravioli. Family restaurant so a little.noisy with small kids.
The pizza is worthwhile --and the salads are the right size to share -- 2 salads, 2 pizzas = 3 people :)
We had a party of 12 and they were very accommodating and quick. The food was awesome and our service was wonderful. I look forward to going back when I’m in New York again in a couple of months.
Otto just isn't what it used to be. The food used to be special - but now it's just ok. After not going for a few years, we recently went back for dinner. First, the table we were sat at had bars restricting our legs on two sides, so uncomfortable! Next, the olives we ordered were only one type - large green olives. Previously they used to serve a mix of olives, including smaller brown ones. The focaccia was good but served cold - they should warm it. The sommelier who served our bottle of wine didn't allow us to taste it before pouring - he just poured the glasses! Not sure if that was a deliberate slight because it wasn't a particularly expensive bottle, or because he was distracted. Never happened to us before in any restaurant. My pizza was a special of the day - squash with smoked ricotta. I didn't like it at all. It was drizzled with balsamic which overpowered the entire pizza, and it lacked a salty flavor. My husband's pizza vongole was ok, but also lacked flavor. He wished it had more red pepper flakes or something to give it oomph. The restaurant is still warm and inviting in its decor, but the food just isn't what it used to be.
You have the classiest weekend daytime bartender in town. Truly a pleasure.
Without doubt, the best pizza I've ever eaten anywhere in the world. Thin, crusty, with lots of varieties of choices. Hard to avoid even if you're on a carb diet!
had the best pizza and pasta ...always my favorite..service wonderful..
Service was very good very loud dining area food was good but could use more seasoning-and lack of regular green salad options
If you know how to order off the extensive menu, and the specials are always good to great, one can have an excellent meal at Otto. The desserts always seem to be underwhelming. So I stay away from those. However, it is one of my staples because I have figured out how to order and who at the restaurant to listen to.
Great service & great food!
Great food and wine and we had a wonderful waiter
It's noisy but hey its NYC. Always love Otto only complaint t my favorite pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe was off the menu. Please bring it back we love it
The black and white dessert is amazing
We have been to this restaurant many times and always enjoy the food. Octopus salad was fabulous and prosciutto was delicious. There was a large party in a room in the back that was very loud and boisterous. Detracted from normal quietness of the restaurant
Great wait staff, food very good, altho kale salad was blah. On the pricey side, but maybe that’s just NY. (Visiting from Chicago)
The service was just fabulous! And each food recommendation hit the spot perfectly. THank you! Very much looking forward to coming back.
The food was great and the server was quick to ask and then point out what food I could order with my allergy. And they also removed it from my salad. We ordered a spicy pasta dish and I asked for it to not be too spicy and it was just perfect. The wine bottles for under $50.00 were amazing
I found this restaurant in a vegan friendly page and it says in the website that there are vegan options but there are non in the menu.
Angry waitstaff, incorrect orders, food just so so. Not worth it.
Decided to eat at the bar, that was a great decision. The service and food was fantastic!
My daughter-in-law and I met at Otto's for lunch and both chose to have the Chopped Salad. It was tasty, but too much radicchio made it a tad more bitter than it should have been. Also, there were brown bits on the lettuce. Other times I've been to Ottos, I've had pizza and it was always good. Guess I should have ordered pizza.
in a sea of choices I would not pick Otto for a sit down dinner. the wine selection is Ok but overpriced for what they offer (by the glass).
We got the truffle pizza special. There was absolutely no taste whatsoever- like none! Our server said, “with truffle it’s more of the experience and the fragrance of the truffle that creates the experience.”
Ah, are u joking?! I just spent $45 on a bland white pizza for the “experience”
Side note: the white clam pizza on the regular menu was really good.
Would we go back? No, not after the truffle pizza scam
We have eaten at Otto many times but this is the first visit in about a year. Food lacked flavor to the point where we didn't even finish our shared pizza. Wine was delicious though. With all the other places to choose from, no need to try this again.
Very mediocre experience. They could use a renovation to the bathrooms and dining room/look pretty tired overall. Not impressed with the menu selections. I got the Arctic char which was prepared well. Appetizers were unimaginative. Service not up to par with prices.
Once again, a wonderful meal. Cucumber salad, pasta, pizza were all excellent. Great service. My favorite Italian!
First time I had olive oil gelato. Delicious.
First off, Dennis the bartender is a NYC treasure (perhaps a national treasure.)
The food is always excellent and my wife and I each enjoyed a lovely quartino of italian wine with our salad and pizza.
I prefer the bar to the tables but both are great. The bar is a bit louder than the tables but same food & beverage choices.
I came here for a causal birthday dinner with a couple of girlfriends. I used to come here all the tome a few years ago but hadn’t been in a while. I remember always loving this place because it has great ambiance and you get great food for a great price. We had a reservation and were seated right away. We had a bottle of red wine to share and started with the margarita pizza which I loved. It’s nice and light and crispy- my favorite. For entrees, two of us had a pasta and the other had the plate of steamed mussels and clams which she said was delicious. We loved everything and had a great time. Our waiter was so friendly and made sure we enjoyed our dining experience. It was my birthday so my friends had asked them to bring out a dessert with a candle on it. When it arrived, they forgot the candle and when the waiter realized, he brought out another dessert with a candle and didn’t charge us. He also came out with a digestiv for us which was also on the house. Service was amazing, food was delicious, and all for an affordable price. It’s hard to find a place like this in NYC. I was reminded why I used to always come here and I will definitely be back.
Wonderful meal! Excellent wine- thank you for helpful suggestions from staff in choosing! Just a bit noisy
It was a last minute reservation and everything was very nice.
Otto Enoteca has great food. The thing is, the staff will tell you the food is family style - THIS FOOD IS NOT FAMILY STYLE. Have everyone in your party get their own meal. Family style means the portions are larger and to be shared. Each dish is just about enough for ONE person. I was at dinner with 5 people and we ended up ordering - 2 salads, 2 pizzas, and 3 pasta dishes and it was NOT ENOUGH FOOD. We left feeling hungry. I think if we each had our own dish and maybe something else, we would've felt better. We also had to ask for bread, which was delicious. So I would definitely recommend it but order your own plate.
They also kept pushing their new menu with truffles, and then letting us know that they can put truffles on everything. It was mentioned multiple times. We get it. You have truffles. We did not get extra truffles on anything. Did not think it was necessary.
Otto has lost it's charm. This was our favorite spot after our first date 14 years ago. It is nothing that it used to be to say the very least.
Regardless of the Mario Battali scandal and the board of health closing the restaurant because of rodents in the kitchen, the service and food have changed dramatically downward. They reduced and changed the menu. They took away: 1. the vegetable antipasti; 2. two of the best salads, the spinach with ricotta salata and truffle honey (changed it to tough kale) and escarole salad with sunchoke; 3. fusilli with sausage and escarole and linguini putanesca; 4. a number of the great pizzas are gone too. The current salads are now lackluster and tasteless. The pasta alla norma is now made with gemelli and they just shred some kind of white cheese on top instead of including chunks of bufala ricotta. The spaghetti carbonara wasn't creamy, the meat (or what didn't look like pancetta or guanciali) came out brown and paper thin (was it prosciutto?) and where was the egg? Did the waiter come over once to ask us if we enjoyed our meal? No. After we finished our first round of drinks, he didn't even ask us if we wanted more. A manager noticed we were looking around for the waiter and asked us what we wanted and he got us more drinks and more bread. Speaking of the bread, what happened to the italian bread in the bag and bread sticks? The two thin slices of focaccia they served tasted dry and just looked sad alone with a couple of small drops of olive oil sprinkled around the plate. They couldn't offer their customers more than two thin slices? Over all, it was lousy service and tasteless food. It was once a great place for pizza and pasta. What the hell happened? You can't blame Batali any more for that crap. We will never go back again.
Birthday. We waited 20 minutes before anyone took a drinks order and then a further 10 before someone took out food order as we asked a few times. We then got the wine a few minutes after this with some house bread but had to ask then for olive oil and vinegar a few times.
All of the staff were very nice and courteous to be fair. I just think that they were so busy or maybe understaffed so the could not service the tables properly.
The food was fine and the wine was very good.
Great food. Energetic atmosphere.
We were seated 45 minutes after arriving and had very spotty service. The busboy ended up being our main server. He was great! I love this restaurant normally but the experience this time was subpar
Good italian food, charming environment. Very good wine selection.
