I’ve been to Otto By Polpo three times, twice in the last week. Last Wednesday the issue was that we had to wait 35 minutes beyond out reservation time for a table. On Monday, the restaurant was far less crowded and we were seated immediately.
The food was delicious and well prepared. It is on the pricier side and is a la carte for the most part. For example, the chicken, veal and beef entrees do not come with pasta or a vegetable.
The specials are relayed to you by your server. One of my dining partners had a special on both Wednesday and Monday. It was very good both times, but $44 seamed excessive to me for lobster ravioli on Wednesday and flounder on Monday. The specials are about $16 more than menu item entrees.
Have eaten there several times. Food was not as good as it was previously. Was disappointed.
We waited about 20 minutes then finally let someone know that no one had come to take our order. The cheeseboard was decent quality but nothing special. Likewise, food was alright—one dish was pretty good, the other bland and mediocre, particularly considering the price. We don’t plan to return.
The food was very good. The service could have been friendlier and overall better. We didn’t like that the meals don’t come with any sides like a fresh vegetable. For the price that should be included. Would definitely give it another try.
Everything was delicious! The staff was friendly and helpful. The only annoyance was the noise of the passing trains.
We dined outside, twice for dinner and once for lunch. My only complaint is that there is no lunch menu. It’s the same dinner menu at lunch time.
It was incredibly hot in the restaurant.
Really enjoyed! You should make a reservation & go. Service is excellent. Food is excellent. BYOB…bring your favorite bottle & enjoy.
Thought the food and service were excellent. We would definitely diner there again. But not too often. Very pricey.
Food was fabulous and the menu was extremely diverse. Overall great meal just could have been a bit more prompt service. Server was professional and polite but super busy. Air conditioning could have been on a higher setting.
Recommend the veal dishes as extraordinary
Dinner was delicious & our waiter was great!
Very nice BYOB right next to the Bryn Mawr Train Station. Very accommodating since we had a wheel chair bound Senior member of our family in attendance. Total party of six and plenty of room. Very spacious during these COVID times.
Wonderul Italian menu. The Veal was tender, The Gnocci was like puffy clouds of pasta and the scampi was scrumptious. Nicely decorated.
We will definitely go back again.
First things first - it was our initial visit and we'll be back. We decided to try something new, since bad weather kept us from our usual outdoor lunch haunts. The space is very nice and seating is both roomy and comfortable. The food was excellent - it's not ready for a Michelin star yet, but everything was extremely good. You can't go to a restaurant named Polpo and not order the octopus. So we did, and it was very tasty. The pesto on it was one of the best we've ever had. I think it's a traditional pesto Genovese, although I didn't taste much cheese in it - whatever it is, it's really excellent! I had the Roman artichoke appetizer and enjoyed it a lot. I only hope that someday they'll prepare them as the Roman classic, carciofi alla Giudia (one of my all time favorite dishes). For her main course, my wife had the penne with pancetta & peas and loved it. And I enjoyed every bite of my garganelli barese, an interesting pasta that looks like penne but is actually hand rolled squares of house made pasta (without striations). Served in a white wine sauce made with ground sausage, broccoli rabe, and cherry tomatoes, it was also excellent. Unfortunately, whether intentional or a non-recurring problem, only one person was caring for all tables (with one support person handling bussing, setups etc). She deserves an award and a bonus for remaining so cheerful and working so hard - and successfully, at least for us - to keep everybody happy! Fortunately, we enjoy leisurely meals and it wasn't a problem for us. But we can see how it could easily get a bit dicey without either a second server or more staff to support her. We will return!
Music was a bit too loud. Suggest Italian music, like operas, which would be more in keeping with the restaurant.
My party of 4 ate outside on a cool evening, and the ambiance with the train station behind us was really nice. The noise level was better outside (having eaten inside once before). The service was good, and the food was delicious. Overall a very pleasant experience.
I had the delicious veal special with asparagus and mushrooms. Folk-tender and the portion was large enough to split. Also got the burrata appetizer (another one for sharing). Waitstaff was attentive and efficient. Sat on the outside patio which, despite the passing trains, was lovely. Highly recommend the coffee gelato dessert (a ball of gelato with a chocolatey middle). I'll be back!
Very accommodating at table location!
We had a delightful dinner at Otto by Polpo. There were six of us and the table was set very nicely. We could have used champagne glasses because we brought both Prosecco and red wine. Small detail that had no impact on our wonderful experience. Everyone agreed they would return!
We ate in their beautiful outdoor area. Table was ready when we arrived. All four of us cleaned our plates. It was a lovely evening.
Birthday celebration with friends. Perfect location!
This was our fourth visit to Otto by Polpo and the excellent dining experience there has been consistently positive. Service was friendly and helpful. Our table had four different entrees and everyone was very satisfied with their (fish and pasta) choices. The noise level in the room is the only negative but that doesn’t come close to outweighing the service, food and overall great dining experience at this restaurant.
The food & service was amazing! Will visit again soon.
Very nice ambiance, excellent food and professional service.
Unfortunately no shaded seating outside yet
We sat in the outside terrace and had a wonderful meal....we each had the Polpo Octopus appetizer which was well prepared and very tasty. The service was attentive but not rushed. I highly recommend Otto by Polpo for lunch or dinner.
I am so happy to have such an excellent restaurant in the neighborhood. I almost hate to write a review because I know that once it's discovered, it will become impossible to get a reservation. It's truly outstanding.
Food is good , service a bit slow.
Overall worth the visit.
Service from kitchen was mediocre. Some was hot, rest room temperature. As if waiting on tray for rest of order. We though we would go back to see if chef gets help in kitchen. Would be nice neighborhood place to go
This is the 4th time I have dined here and the first time for lunch. The food and service is excellent! I have read reviews with complaints re: dining indoors is too warm and noisy. It can be a bit warm inside, so ladies- you won’t need a sweater or denim jacket. AC is not set at “frigid”. It can be a bit noisy at dinner when they are fully booked, but so what! It’s wonderful to see people out and enjoying life again!
Me and my friend were here for lunch and this place is amazing. It was my second time, the first time I was seated outside and today inside by the window with tables spaced well between each other. My pasta special served with shrimp and scallops was delicious. Our server Mikail, which is the second time serving us, makes each time we visit better with his excellent service. This place is a great addition to the main line area. Can’t wait to be back.
Restaurant was crowded - tables are too close together given the protocols that are in place.
Air conditioning was barely working.
Had to flag down a waitress to place our order.
I do hope they are able the resolve the above issues as the food was delicious.
Excellent service and delicious meal!
Wonderful meals! The restaurant was overbooked (waited 30 minutes for our reservation/table) and it was really warm inside. We were sweating and felt bad for the waitstaff in long sleeves and pants. Hopefully those issues will be resolved so we can come back.
Very slow service
However food is very good.
I enjoy the Avalon place.
I’m sure you will figure out the noise issue and service issues
Great food, great service.
A tad on the loud side.
We went here for lunch. The food is always good (have been here for dinner before). The service is subpar. Our waiter messed up our appetizer order and my husbands entree. When we told him about the appetizer his face was shocked as if we were lying and said well it’s good so we decided to keep it and let it go. Then my husband ordered risotto and he brought out linguine. When we said it was wrong the waiter insisted that we told him linguine treating us like liars once again. Then he looked at his tablet and realized that he did put risotto and the kitchen messed up. He practically ignored us for the rest of the meal. I would understand if it was busy but this was at 3pm and there was only one other table there. Maybe he was having a bad day. Highly recommend this place for the food.
Another gold star meal! I really enjoy the menu and the service. The chef was very happy to come out and let us thank him personally.
We specifically booked an outside table . However when we arrived, on time, for our reservation, there were at least 10 people, all waiting for outside tables. The hostess said they do not guarantee outside seating. She merely said we could wait... could be at least a half hour or more... or be seated inside.
this was not told to us when we made the res or confirmed it! Everyone was upset about the same issue. Some people left. We agreed to take an available inside table.
Dinner was lovely.
However we will not return here because of this policy and the way the situation was NOT handled
Portions were really too big. Lots of garlic in everything we tried. We came hungry and couldn’t even finish half of our dinner. Noticed everyone around us also left with take away containers.
'We had a very lovely dinner. We were seated promptly and our waiter was on top of his game. Our only issue was related to the Open Table voucher we brought in after redeeming thousands of points with an expectation of getting $20 off our bill. Our server said he tried several times to enter the information but it did not accept the voucher. Bummer. Order the mussels in red sauce for an appetizer and save bread to dip into the sauce. Probably the best mussels and sauce I've ever tasted. I had gnocchi in a carbonara sauce which was good. Not sure I'd get that again because although very tasty, there's just too much pasta. I had plenty leftovers to have a second night.
