After being a fan for a long time, was very disappointed with my experience here. The service was terrible, they did not accept credit cards and failed to inform us until we asked for the bill, the food was mediocre, and the owner/chef was very rude to my mother. Will never go back and recommend that all stay away. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

Four of us had dinner early for a change so it was a surprise to see an empty restaurant at 6pm on a Friday night but what a treat for us that it wasn't as busy as usual. It did fill up later on but by then we weren't paying attention as we were enjoying ourselves so much. The food was absolutely delicious and we enjoyed seeing a varied menu without too many choices. The wine was perfect with what we were eating with limoncello given to us at the end that was amazing! The chef was very entertaining and recommended different foods and wines along with service from his son and one other which was perfect. We weren't going to have dessert but.... we had 3 out of 4 of them (there were 4 of us after all!!) and every one of them was to die for! We were so impressed and sad too that we hadn't been before now. I believe he has been there for about 8 years but..... we ARE definitely going back!

We left once the wine came they only had one Chardonnay and it had cork in it. They sat us next to four old ladies when there were only six people in the restaurant. Once I tasted the wine and saw there was nothing on the menu like the pictures I had seen we left and picked somewhere else. If this restaurant going to last and only have one Chardonnay they better make sure it at least drinkable.

Valentino is the owner and head chef. He named the restaurant after his father, so it is truly a labor of love and one that he takes very seriously. Valentino and his sous chef, Richard, create the most delicious food that I have had in the Bay Area and perhaps in the U.S. The food is authentic Italian that charms the palate with every bite. An example of the dedication to tradition is shown in the fact that Valentino makes his own bread and cures his own meats at the restaurant. For wine, Valentino recommended the 2010 Valpolicella Superior Ripasso Bosan and it was divine. The wine complimented the food perfectly and provided a nice balance with our choices. We started with the Burrata Con Speck, which came with a fist size of burrata and their homemade prosciutto in a balsamic vinegar sauce. The burrata melted in my mouth and it was a perfect combination with the saltiness of the prosciutto and the sweetness of the sauce. It was simply heavenly. Then we sampled the grilled octopus with arugula and olives. The octopus tentacles were quite large and cooked perfectly. I have tried octopus many times and this is only the second time I have had it prepared correctly. There was no chewiness and the flavor seeped into it well. For the entrée, we shared the spicy risotto with octopus. We could not get enough of the octopus since it was prepared flawlessly. The red sauce was spicy but not overpowering to the other ingredients. It was a subtle but noticeable touch. Finally, we finished with a dessert similar to a crème brulee. It was served with raspberry sauce and chocolate shavings. Truly heavenly. As a thank you for dining with them on our anniversary, Valentino gave us two glasses of his Limoncello. The drink was equalized so that the sugar offset the bite of the lemon. It was simply delicious. Valentino runs his business in honor of his father and it shows. I recommend Ottavio to anyone who is interested in authentic, delectable Italian cuisine.

Regular diner at Ottavio. Food is excellent with great favors and touch. Menu is on the small side, but that is a good thing as all on the menu are outstanding. Valentino is a true gentleman and chef. Last time in we had their arugula salad (very good), in-house cured meat tray (outstanding), Lamb Promegranate (wonderful) and the best Gnocchi around. Small family owned establishment that we enjoy supporting!

We had a wonderful meal here last Friday night. Starters were burrata with house cured speck and octopus salad. The creamy cheese and speck were heavenly and one would be justified pushing away from the table at that point, but you must carry on! The grilled octopus had a great smokey flavor that paired well with the greens and dressing. Mains were baramundi fish and lamb sirloin. All excellent and plentiful - no room for dessert. We asked Valentino (owner/exec chef) to pick our glasses of wine for the various courses and they were outstanding. We were also treated to a little intermezzo of Valentino's smoked fish, which is a recommended starter here for taste and texture. Someone at your table should get this and share bites.

This was our sixth visit to Ottavio and we decided to go this night because we wanted something different from the run-of-the-mill dinning experiences. If you are looking for great food and a little adventure, definitely give Ottavio a try. You will be treated well!

Been here many times. This time was a disappointment. Dish we came for was not as good as usual. Beet salad was almost empty of beets and mostly radishes. It was a Thurs night and few diners so had the impression chef was not into it, though he is a charming host and an interesting person. Felt very let down.

We had a very nice dinner here last week. We shared everything and started with the
Caprese Salad with Burrata cheese and Heirloom Tomatoes. The Burrata was full flavored and creamy and a perfect complement to the tomatoes, Basil and Balsamic dressing. We next went to the Wild Boar Sugo and the Organic Lamb Sirloin with Pomegranate sauce. Both dishes were well prepared and the flavors were great. The chef recommended a reasonably priced Italian red to go with the dinner. Everything was delicious and we will definitely be going back soon.

We don't go out to nice sit down restaurants very often, so we aren't very well versed as restaurant patrons. Ottavio served us delicious food we have never tried before, with service that felt intimate and genuine. We went on a quiet weekday evening and had a wonderful time for our 2nd anniversary dinner. Recommended for anyone visiting the Walnut Creek area looking for a smaller scale dining experience.

Loved everything about Ottavio. Pleasant conversations with the owner and the wait staff, all of whom took great care of us. Generous pours of wine. All meats are cured in-house and the proscuitto did not disappoint. Messy Lasagna, the name of the dish, may have been the best lasagna I've ever eaten. My husband enjoyed the ricotta gnocchi with duck. The lasagna was veal truffled ragout, so it had a slight smokey flavor, which embellished the dish. For wine, we selected the 2010 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso Bosan, Veneto, Cesari. As it was Father's Day, my husband splurged on a chocolate torte and the owner treated us to a decadent sip of limoncello. Exquisite. Now, if Walnut Creek would just discontinue outrageous parking meters.

This was our first visit to this restaurant. This was a last minute Mother's Day reservation. It was just me and my mom, and we were pleasantly satisfied. It is a family-owned restaurant, and the chef is the owner. The place is so intimate that the owner takes time to visit every table.
Excellent find!!

Ottavio is heavy on meat, which is unusual for an Italian restaurant. Only the risotto was vegetarian. There was one fish and a seafood stew, which had a lot of clams, a few less mussels, an overcooked piece of fish and one shrimp. The dessert (zabaione with mascarpone)was wonderful. But overall, the restaurant was uninspiring.

Highly over priced for both the food quality and ambiance.
$150 tab for 1 appetizer, 2 salad, 2 entree and bottle of wine. Their menu prices are similar to Flemings, without the quality, ambiance or service to make the cost worth it.
Our wine came 10 mins before our salads, appetizer arrived shortly after salad.
The place was very slow for 7pm on a Saturday, so no reason for food flow to be off.
We will not visit again.

We were two couples on a Saturday night and we had found this on yelp and interestingly , the reviews were either really Good or really bad. But the photos on the review pages were amazing and it look like a really great place with a wide selection, fancy food and a beautiful, quiet ambience. Unfortunately very little of that turned out to be true.

I had a octopus and calamari salad to start. That was very good so I still had high hopes. But they have no soup and when I asked for iced tea , amazingly, they don't have it. My choices were water, beer, wine or Italian sodas. I have the lamb tenderloin and it was okay but it was on a better polenta needed sauce because the entire plate was pretty dry. What I really wanted this rabbit because in the photos there were quite a few pictures of braised rabbit and rabbit done in other ways. So naturally, I assumed they had rabbit on the menu all the time.

My wife had been osso bucco. She said it was okay . She wasn't wild about it but she said it was adequate. I don't remember what the other couple had but they were only moderately pleased.

More telling was that we all agreed that it was a poor value. When the dessert menu can we only glanced at it and decided to leave as soon as possible. Instead, we walked a block and a half down the street to Lotties Creamery and had ice cream for dessert!

The four of us were completely mystified by the glowing reviews. About the food. The service was minimal. They're trying to be a sophisticated place but the service staff is not up to the task.

Small restaurant with interesting menu. Not your typical Italian food. Highlight was the Carpaccio di Pescespada e Storione (fish carpaccio). Drinks were the only disappointment. Tap water, expensive(overpriced?) wine and Italian beer were the only options -- not even a Sanpellegrino for the non-drinkers. Enjoy cocktails before you come, and it will be a special meal.

A delightful Italian gem in Walnut Creek! We enjoyed a nice anniversary dinner for four and received both top-notch service and food. We booked a 6:15 reservation were seated toward the back of the restaurant, which is quieter than the front. We practically had the place to ourselves for about an hour. Lamb with pomegranate sauce was excellent, as was anything with octopus (a house specialty). Valentino rocks!

The food was good, service was good. We were sat at a table at the entrance, consequently; anyone that came through the door had no place stand but right next to our table. At one point there was as many as 6 people "hanging around" our table waiting to be seated. It was not a relaxing or enjoyable setting, I would not return for that reason.

Octopus & calamari and burrata with spek starters, both were great and we should have left after those. But no, we ordered barramundi fish and pork chop - excellent! Most of the pork chop came with me as I was just too full to finish it onsite. We had a bottle of local wine and the tab was about $150.00 plus tip. Service was attentive. No complaints other than eating too much!
