I love this place. Really hard. The food is excellent - seriously. YUM. The wine is excellent, and the bartender ideal. I will be taking everyone who comes to visit here. What a treasure! Be warned that choosing is slightly stressful, because everything looks good and I have complete faith in their abilities. Planning to go again to try untried delights.
Service great. Food very good. Restaurant quiet. Slow time of year.enjoyed our visit.
They need to stop serving Tri-Tip as a steak. Cooked decently and sliced thin it is ok in a sandwich but most other restaurants who took up this trendy California hipster cut of steak have abandoned it because it is like chewing on a shoe. I would rate everything else a 10/10 but the Tri-Tip, although perfectly cooked is a 3/10.
Another great dinner at Otis. We sat at the chef's counter -- same menu, but you get to watch all the preparation -- a well oiled machine! Between the 4 of us we had 4 different starters and 4 entrees, and each one stood out. Loved the chicken sausage starter. The shaved red cabbage was a flavorful take on a caesar salad. Loved the cod on a bed of stewed lentils and kale.
Fabulous food, fabulous customer service. Great attention to detail by both the staff and owner/chef. Thanks for a great experience.
Went for our anniversary and had a great experience.
Sat at chefs table. Totally delightful watching, chatting and eating.
My husband and I recently visited and had a lovely meal at Otis - I’ve been dying to try it. Overall we had a great experience. Food was delicious, the only gripe would be a medium/well done steak vs. medium-rare, but it still had great flavor and stayed pretty tender.
I will warn visitors, it’s very loud. We were OK with it and just also tried to speak loudly to each other , but I know that can be off putting for some.
Overall a fun experience and we’ll definitely be back to try the chefs 5-course menu again.
Best food around, creative, local, fresh and menu changes regularly.
Approached the menu with an open mind. Glad we opted for the chef’s tasting menu.
Always a fabulous experience! We ate at the counter near the kitchen, and it was great to see and talk with the chef about the food, which was beautiful and delicious. Otis is my favorite go-to for a fun night out!
Always fantastic food. Noise is a tad high, but after a few mins you notice it less.
The food in NH gets no better than Otis. The chef cooks with creativity and you can taste the love that is put into each dish. The waitstaff/ Bar Staff is equally as fantastic. This is our goto spot and favorite restaurant to recommend to others
A fantastic experience all around - from ambience, to servers, to the world-class food. Now, one of my favorite restaurants!
The food is excellent, though it is not any better than Epoch (at Exeter Inn) or Blue Moon Evolution. The service is SO-SO; we waited for the server 5 minutes before she took our order, then I had to remind her that I ordered a glass of wine with my entrée.
I would return, except for the most overriding issue, the noise level is exceptionally LOUD. In the fashion with today's restaurants, it is minimally decorated (which is fine), but has no noise-absorbing materials whatsoever.
We brought a friend who'd never been to Otis and wanted to try it based on our rave reviews. He was not disappointed. Service is excellent and friendly, with any questions about the menu and/or drinks $ wine answered. We were all very happy with our meals (New England Fish Monger Tuna, Pork Tenderloin, and Duck breast). All excellent, along with a flavorful cold cucumber soup and the beet salad for apps.
Just a gem!
Great food. Great presentation. Great service. What else can we say!
Excellent food, attentive wait staff, perfect drinks. Wonderful restaurant
Maybe. But with reservations.
It was sooooo loud we could NOT have a conversation and the nice waitress could barely hear our order. I actually could hear every loud word chef/owner in the back was saying and I was sitting as far front as one could. 🙄. So between the sun/heat and noise level we skipped the second drink and dessert so we could leave ASAP.
So I might recommend the place but would mention the concerns. AND maybe the owner SHOULD read the reviews. Be brags that he doesn’t care. Really???
Great food. Sat at the bar. Mike is an awesome bartender. Our drink are ready by the time we sit down.
Wha struck us right away and affected our whole experience is that neither the chef nor his assistant greeted us when we sat at his table. Not even a nod! It would be so easy and so appropriate to spend ten seconds greeting people who choose to sit there!!!! I finally introduced us to the assistant. I also thought the chef's apron looked a bit dirty. Why not a crisp clean white one, or something like that? It created less than a fun ambiance for us and wasn't what we anticipated. Just a mood?
We got there at 5pm and didn't have our order taken until 5:30 which was long. There were already about 6 or 8 people there. But no comment, no 'we'll be right with you', etc. The waitress needs to be trained about these kinds of details, so we feel taken care of.
We thought the food was delicious. I am a vegetarian and the chef made me a pasta dish that was just right, and my husband liked his meat dish. The cucumber soup was delicious but I thought it wasn't right that the sous chef filled the small bowl only 1/2 inch or more inch from the top. A bit cheap I thought!
This was a very unique and enjoyable dining experience. We were celebrating a friend's 50th birthday and this was the perfect meal for the three of us. Loved the decor, the ambiance, the aroma from the kitchen, and just the overall feel of the place. Lee, the chef and owner, was very hospitable and friendly. He made a special vegetarian meal for me which was delicious. I also highly recommend the cucumber gin collins - quite refreshing on a hot summer's evening.
Ate at the chef’s counter and had the tasting menu, which was an amazing value. Appropriate portions of amazing food for a reasonable price. We were one of the last parties seated. The chef still had the energy at 9pm to spend time with us walking through the plates and acting as a welcoming host. What a gem in the center of Exeter. Can’t wait to go back!
Such a feeling of pride goes into every dish served... Absolutely beautiful and extremely tasty! Came all the way from Chicago!
This place is consistently great!
Tasting menu was amazing! Decent portions. Good timing. Great ambience
The food is always very good at Otis. My halibut was very fresh. My appetizer included sauteed fiddleheads which were lovely and so seasonally perfect for New Hampshire. It's always a bit noisy in this space but for me it feels festive. Otis is the best thing that's happened to Exeter gastronomically.
Despite having made a reservation well in advance we were seated 40 minutes late with barely any acknowledgement. The place is quite small and they clearly overbooked. Instead of seating us at the 2 tables that cleared out as we stood awkwardly in the entrance they sat people who came in after us insisting that an occupied table was “ours”. No one offered us a drink or an appetizer or even kept us informed - we had to ask for status. When we were finally sat I would have expected that the chef would send an amuse or a round of drinks but we had to ask for it. Although the food was nice, it didn’t make up for the terrible treatment. Very disappointing. .
Creative, delicious, and beautiful plates of food for a reasonable price. Plan on returning many times.
Excellent value. Sat at bar watching chef prepare meals
Dinner was fabulous and so was the service. The food is so fresh and the chef is very accommodating. The restaurant is small and can get a bit loud, but the food and service make it totally worth it!! Looking forward to returning
The glass of Rose was 15$ and not on the Menu so I had no idea. The Fish entree was delicious! The dunks mushroom appetizer was not very tasty and smushy.
Great Anniversary dinner! Recommend the sleeper five, get try a little a bit of almost everything, so worth it!
Lovely staff....delicious meals!
Very loud on arrival- quieted down as our meal progressed as we had one of the latest reservations.
Would definitely visit, again.
Always so creative, beautiful and delicious... and different every time we visit!
This is our second time at Otis- we love it! If you love food and inventive ways to experience it (without getting too fussy), Otis is for you. Sophisticated and casual at the same time.
Service and food were wonderful. Seasonal entrees. Farm to table. Creative wonderfully prepared. Will be back, and soon!’
Another excellent meal at Otis! Local ingredients and a small but varied menu ensures meals prepared fresh. Attention to detail shows in the beautiful presentations. My bacon-wrapped pork chop was perfectly cooked, moist and tender with a locally sourced polenta that was more flavorful than any other polenta I'd ever tasted. The other entree, a duck confit, was equally delicious. Apps, cocktails, wine are all of the same quality. Nice atmosphere and friendly, attentive service.
