Ostra Ratings and Reviews
Tried so many things from the menu and all were amazing. Well prepared, well crafted, balanced, flavorful dishes. Creative melt-in-your-mouth tartare dishes. The grilled octopus was just delicious. The gnocchetti was decadent. Branzino, salmon, halibut... all amazing. Highly recommended. Service from Jessica was superior - and a special shout out to Julio who made sure our water was always full and really added to the pleasure of the evening. All around fantastic!
Ambiance was very nice. Bar tender was great. she was friendly, fun and created a cocktail for me.
As great as the bartender was, the table server was just the opposite.
He found it difficult to engage with us on the menu offering no opinions when asked. He wasn't terrible, but that's not a very good compliment.
Our family went to Ostra to celebrate my sister's birthday. She loved oysters, and they had a great selection of them, and a very knowledgeable and helpful waiter who told us about the different kinds of oysters. The salmon and seabass tartare were amazing, so was the fresh loaf of bread that came in the beginning. From the first course menu, we really enjoyed the octopus salad (had lemon juice and a char-grilled taste), and the King Crab Tortellini. As well, the desserts were very creative - the coconut flan and the chocolate torte were the best. They even had a candle and customised decoration for my sister on the chocolate cake.
The only down-side was the noise even at 8:30p.m. on a weekday night. I guess that is a sign of a good restaurant, though, just harder to hear each other during conversation. But all in all, a great seafood dining experience!
I have been to Ostra about 6 times for various business and special personal occassions. The food is always excellent and the ambiance a winner. The poor service on this particular occassion differed from the excellent service all the other times. It was VERY slow, we had to hunt our waiter down on more than one occasion, and the feeling of excellence was much less than prior occasions. I guess I will need to look for another place with more consistently excellent service for business meals, as I cannot take the risk this will happen again. At the very premium prices Ostra charges, they need to deliver excellence every single time. Really.
A desappointing experience: We have booked in advance and confirmed the reservation for our 30th anniversary. Arrived on time on a rainy night. The put us on a table as far away from the scene as possible, facing the walls. We asked to change and they offer to do so in our next visit (very optimistic view). The food was very good but the service was slow and not attentive (she was nice, but too busy). They didn´t have the wine we ordered. We got another one but the bill came charging for both. We felt we were being "processed", not served.
Not sure the point of informing the type of occasion to Open Table if they don´t care. Don´t plan to come back.
4 of us for dinner. This place is amazing. The food was delicious. The bread was very unusual and tasty. I started with yellowfin tuna carpaccio presented in a really unique way - a thin slice of tuna (slightly cooked around the edges) and topped with crunch, a little spice, a little green - fantastic! The Halibut was great. An interesting selection of desserts. Our server was excellent - attentive, helpful, but not intrusive. The dining room is very chic- white, gray & black. We had 3 dinners in Boston on this trip, and this was by far the best. I wholeheartedly recommend you try it!
Thank you, Ostra!
Ostra is one of the best restaurants in Boston, especially for seafood lovers. The raw oysters are wonderful. The Paella “Valenciana Style” contains an extraordinary selection of perfectly prepared items, including lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams, octopus, and squid, plus chorizo and rice. The pan roasted halibut is equally delicious. The wine selection is comprehensive, and includes a nice variety of wines by the glass and half bottle. The restaurant is expensive but worth the price for a special occasion.
We received a gift card for dinner. We are not fish eaters, so the menu was limited. We found the noise level to be extremely high where it was difficult to carry on a conversation without raising your voice. The food was over priced. The service was very good though.
The food was delicious and imaginative. The starter of lobster and gnocchi was fantastic and with a real flavour sensation. All my companions enjoyed their food equally and were all very enthusiastic about everything we ordered.
The service was OK but the waiter looked flustered and was not serving the tables in our area with any logical plan, so that the neighbours who arrived well after us had their drinks and starter before we had even had a menu. So the service did not match the quality of the food.
The atmosphere was buzzing and laid back - and the decor is lovely.
It is pricey (wine especially expensive) so good for a special occasion rather than every day dining, but I would recommend on the excellent flavours alone.
