Ostra Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic dining experience! It's definitely not inexpensive but the quality of the food and service is worth what you pay. The pasta dishes were wonderful and filling, despite the seemingly small portion. The oysters were amazing. The service is impeccable. The staff are all friendly. The ambiance is absolutely wonderful. We would definitely return to Ostra.
The appetizers were great, especially the hamachi. However, we ordered the paella and half of it was burnt- the bottom of the pan was black and the rice was stuck to it as well. Also, we ordered it without chorizo, but there was one piece of chorizo in the dish. After we received our entrees, the server never came back to check on us; he didn't ask how our dinner was after our plates were gone and the dessert menu was dropped off to our table by another individual.
Ostra is a very good restaurant, with a good selection of wines and a large offer of classic fish and seafood based plates. The ambiance is elegant but at the same time cozy, even warm. Everyone smiles at you from the very first moment to the end of the dinner. The service was great, not too invasive but always supportative. The food is not outstanding: there was too much lemon juice in the (excessively tiny) yellofin tuna tartare and some ingredients in the paella were too "creative", even if the cooking time of wach fish and seafood was perfect, as well as of the rice. The branzino fillet was perfect. In my opinion there are too many seats, even if the level of noise was never too loud.
A great experience from start to finish. We went with the restaurant's specialty - fish - and didn't regret it. Had the (regular) branzino and salmon and they were perfectly prepared - moist and tasty - certainly the best salmon we've ever had. The service was attentive and personable but not intrusive. Next time we're in Boston, we'll definitely go again.
We went to Ostra to celebrate our anniversary. We arrived early for our reservation and they were able to seat us right away. Our waiter, Michael, was excellent. The service from all the staff was great. Our meal was delicious--great homemade bread and we started with the campanelle appetizer. I had the salmon--it was cooked perfectly and my husband had the paella. We are still trying to figure out how they knew it was our anniversary but they brought out a lovely trio of sorbets for a nice light finish to the meal beautifully presented with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate on the plate. We will definitely be back.
Took my wife for our first dinner together in Boston. We did not make a mistake. I had the whole fish baked in salt. One of my favorite recipes! It was excellent! The preparation exceeded all my expectations. Ostra is obviously popular as folks were still being seated after 10:30 PM. I recommended it to native German colleague who ordered the same dish I had the next night and he was equally enthusiastic! 👍👍!
Beautiful restaurant, marred by noise level- impossible even to have table conversation- but it is gorgeous to look at! We preferred items from raw bar to main courses. The tartare's were fabulous. Main course fish dishes were over cooked and lacked well seasoned robust side dishes. Next time we would visit just for the raw bar. Unfortunately, the service started off well enough but rapidly went downhill. We dined most of the evening with little to no service. Had to constantly ask different people for help, including refills on water. The timing for the service of our dishes was way off as well. Starters came out quickly and then just sitting for more than a half hour for second course, and even longer for main dishes. Again, might try one more time but just for the raw bar.
Wow, is all I can say about Ostra. From the wine list and appetizers to the entrees and desserts. Everything was out of this world. I'm a huge truffle fan so the lobster and truffle to start was incredible. I definitely recommend the Monk Fish, it has truffle, as well. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were incredible.
Ostra is a must!
We were visiting Boston and it was across from our hotel. We had a great experience! We tend to like vegetarian and we'll splurge a little on fish but their pasta with mushrooms was delectable along with the yellowfin carpaccio and the wine was fabulous and wrap it all in the great service Margaret provided, you can't beat it! Marvelous night out.
Superb food, it was fresh and not overly fancy. I don't like when the chef tries too hard and things don't quite come together. This chef seemed to keep it simple and yet ever so tasty!
We were there during the week so maybe that is why it was primarily business people. Not an intimate setting but pretty.
The food was absolutely incredible, and the service was above and beyond. It is definitely a place I would recommend to anybody and everybody visiting the area. While it is definitely pricey, it is obvious from the get-go that it is an expensive restaurant, so people should know going in. And if I ever return to the Boston area, I will definitely be sure to return.
The restaurant pitches itself very high end but the atmosphere is more casual. We arrived on time but waited 20 minutes to be seated at a table directly in the path of servers going in and out of the kitchen area. We asked to be moved and were accommodated.
The food does live up though. The server was very nice, informative and efficient.
Another great night out at Ostra, our server was fantastic... the food was out of this world, We were all making each other try a taste of our dish and one bite was just better that the next.... it was a fun night sharing great food. Give me more of that wonderful bread...LOL. The BEST calamari on the planet.... with the bouillabaisse brodo, nobody can compete with that.... What a Boston treasure!! We love it there!!!!
