Food was fantastic. Recommendation from another diner was oysters and fish. Perfect.
Two couples out to dinner; one couple from out-of-town and this is one of our favorite spots. The food and service are consistently the best I have experienced in Boston. My husband and bro-in-law shared the fish (?sea bream?) that was baked in a meringue and salt crust; they raved about it. Two of us had the pasta with mushrooms and it was, as always, amazing. (Note: unless you have a massive appetite or generally overeat, a starter salad or oysters or whatever, plus this pasta dish, which is on the appetizer menu, is plenty of food.). We had the Snow Egg dessert, which has been on their menu for a couple of years - always unbelievably good and a visual delight - and also had the beignets. The latter are my new favorite. I would seriously go there just for dessert. Love this place and highly recommend!!
Great restaurant. Food quality excellent. Attention to detail is exceptional. Will return often.
Best seafood restaurant in Boston by far (sorry Legal Seafood lovers, but there just is no comparison). The Langoustine ceviche may be the best langoustine dish that I have ever had in my life and sells out quickly when it is on the menu. My wild sea bream was to die for. The quality of their seafood is extraordinary, but it is the range of unusual dishes and their creative preparation which makes the restaurant so special. They also have an excellent wine list, our Domaine Leflaive Montrachet was dreamlike.... although my wallet took a hickey.
Party of 7 on a Tuesday evening. Cocktails at the bar first and then onto dinner. Staff was great and food was amazing.
46th Anniversary dinner that was exceptional. I had excellently prepared Halibut and while Ostra is noted as a seafood restaurant, my wife throughly enjoyed the Prime New York Sirloin. Great service and modern decor made for a memorable evening.
Very noisy. Hard to hear and listen. Wine price markup 3times retail or more. Food excellent but very limited nonseafood options. Food served before wine in spite of saying not in a hurry
Excellent food and service. I came for a date night and was not disappointed.
Ostra has remarkably good food and is a lovely place for a special event/dinner. The room is a bit too dark (it would be nice if the waiters have mini-mag lights to loan) but the food was spectacular. The dishes are pricey but there are some occasions when it's worth spending that kind of money for food that is absolutely fresh and exquisitely prepared.
This was a special celebration for 2 couples that deserved the best. Everyone ordered an appet and an entree. Everything was really very good, but nothing stood out as truly memorable. (EXCEPT THE SPANISH GRILLED OCTOPUS! Do NOT miss out on this, even if you’ve got reservations about it!). We ordered the halubut, the paella and branzino. The fish was fresh (yeah!!) and well prepared, (except the baked oysters that were overdone some), but no one experienced a preparation that you’d like to try at home or come back for pronto. Except the octopus. We’d all go back tomorrow for that, and 3 other people tasted it only on my double dare.
But everything was very nice, though, and the interior design new and cooling feeling.
Very nice restaurant, excellent food, good ambiance
Great food compliments to the chef
Noice to high and tables to close for comfort
We read the reviews prior to coming here. It is quite loud but honestly not many restaurants are quiet anymore. We saw the reviews where the service was not up to par. I am a prior industry owner and I will tell you that our service was spot on!! Lexi, our server, was exceptional! The branzino was excellent and she filleted it expertly!! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes excellent food with exceptional service. The only thing is you have to be able to tolerate the noise level which is common in mist restaurant ms now. Well done!
The food was wonderful, from the appetizers to the entrees. The service was exceptional. It was a wonderful night out
Food was good but will not go back.
Cannot say enough about the service. From the moment you arrive, you are cared for.
This was the third time and everything was almost as good as I n the past the halibut was dry but everything else was very good and they ran out of wine that we were drinking and also did not have one of the desserts available but they did comp us for the other desserts to make up for not having everything we liked The servers worked really hard were very attentive
I was looking forward to this...Not at all satisfying. Food was bland , which is understandable and service was worse , which is unacceptable. Literally ruined what should have been a special night.
The food was amazing. Nevertheless, the service was not. For example, I ordered a Port as an after dinner, the check came but still I never received the Port ordered. I commented this to the server, although apology was accepted, due time elapsed I had to cancel it:-(
Table not ideal, next to kitchen despite reservation. Food quality very good.
Super fresh fish, great starters and Chef’s Compositions were all excellent. Will go back when visiting Boston again.
It was delicious. Next time we are in Boston we will eat there again. Will recommend to others.
Ostra has a modern atmosphere. The food and the service were outstanding. It was loud so don't plan on having a quiet conversation. I had the Branzino and I would recommend it to everyone. The king crab appetizer was also delicious. They have a wonderful wine list and our waiter was able to recommend the perfect wine to compliment our dinner.
Ostra is a beautiful restaurant with a nice selection of seafood. My king salmon was a bit over cooked, which was disappointing. Our server had a difficult time with my request for a corkage fee for a bottle of wine I brought to the restaurant. Instead of telling me that outside bottles aren’t allowed, I was given an awkward explanation. It was not a big deal, but it detracted from the overall experience.
The dinner was superb with all the appetizers and entrees deliciously prepared . Highly recommend .
One of the best risotto we every ate. The rice was cooked to perfection, both rispy and soft, which is very hard to execute.
primarily a seafood restaurant. The paella was fabulous and enough for two hungry people or four to share with other dishes. You must wait for your warm ciabiatta as it is baked to order. Deserts, while small, packed an enormous punch and, therefore, large enough to share
Excellent seafood in a lovely atmosphere.Service is wonderful.
We chose Ostra specifically for the salt-encrusted Branzino which is very hard to find. It was truly extraordinary with the lemony light sauce. With the side vegetables and the burrata and tomatoes and ending with the Snow Egg dessert, it was one of the best dinners we've had anywhere. We also found the waitstaff to be knowledgeable and friendly.
We were visiting Boston for the first time, and I made reservations here. FANTASTIC food, incredible service, the managers/wait staff were exceptional and lovely. The food was exquisite and flavourful. We would definitely come back here if we are ever back in town. Wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.
Excellent dining experience! The best meal I've ever had in Boston.
Excellent fish food, impeccable service. Unfortunately too noisy. With some noise reduction adjustments in the dining room the experience would be outstanding
Ostra is a lovely restaurant that should be better than it is. The food was outstanding but the service was lacking. In this type of high end restaurant we shouldn’t have to request bread, then request that our wine glass be refilled (our bottle of wine was in a ice bucket in a corner away from our table). Service did get better once we asked, but we shouldn’t have had to ask, not at Ostra’s price point.
Everything was perfection from our appetizers of tuna tatare and beef carpaccio to our entrees of monkfish and paella, it was presented beautifully and tasted amazing. Dessert was fabulous and the service extraordinary.
Delicious food presented in an elegant manner. Service is excellent.
Absolutely out of this world. We travel to seek out excellent food at any cost. We just want great food, an incredible wine list and impeccable service. This place was the hat trick. I cannot recommend it more.
Better than we expected.
I liked the food and service but I don’t think I would go back.
Sea bass in salt bake was overpriced and “under”fished meaning 10 pounds of salt on a 3 ounce fish. Fish was butchered on the plate as served and strewn across the plate.
Too noisy and too cramped
Risotta was excellent
