Great fine dining choice. On par with european michelin star restaurants.
We had a fabulous meal. Wish we had longer, but they open at 5:30, and we had theater tickets at 7:00, so no time for leisurely dining with apps and dessert. Our cocktails were excellent. And so was the service. We look forward to returning, with friends, and plan more time to enjoy this lovely restaurant so close to all the theaters
The service was incredible. However if you’re a vegetarian do not go here. The only option they have is salad. And it’s not a large dish. Sides and the bread are your best options. That would be my only complaint
Excellent on all counts. Service, ambiance and of course food. Especially enjoy their small plates - octopus, gnocchi, oysters... wonderful bread as well.
Great everything !
Food and service both were great
Meeting with old friends. Entrees delicious. Ostra does seafood extremely well and imaginatively. Salads ok, nothing special. Service cordial and attentive. Pricey but not inordinate.
Chief problem was Extreme noise level—we had requested table in a quiet corner well in advance but were not given one even though it was only 6 pm—that severely inhibited communication. We may return as a couple, but never as a foursome.
Upscale seafood restaurant with prices to match. Food was very tasty and well prepared. Service was very efficient bordering on being rushed. Noise level was detrimental to conversation and meal enjoyment.
Excellent higher end seafood spot in Theater District. Everything about our meal and service was great. Our server was highly knowledgeable about the french wine list. Scallop appetizer was incredible as was the Halibut entree. Great location for a pre theater dinner.
Food was good but scallop appetizer special had no flavor and kale salad dressing was also plain. Bread and deserts amazing.
We were a table of seven, and ordered a wide variety of dishes to accommodate differing preferences. Everything without exception was superb.
Delighted! First time at Ostra and loved every minute of our dining experience. We arrived quite early and were seated promptly. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff could not have been more attentive. I had the special beet salad which was perfect followed by the salmon. If you love salmon; this is simply the best. Everyone else in our party of four had a seafood dish and each loved their meal and desert. Since moving to Boston in April; Ive had great meals in many top restaurants. Ostra is by far my new favorite.
Went to celebrate our anniversary and everything was perfect!
Beautiful food an service made a great birthday treat.
We enjoyed a great business dinner with a group of people.
We've eaten here several times and always been very happy with the dinner. This time, however, 3 of our 4 dishes were overcooked and the fish was too dry. Unfortunately, we were pressed for time because of theater plans and couldn't await a refresh of the meals. The management, though, was very understanding and followed up with us. We'll be back. Everyone has a bad day.
I simply can't say enough great things about Ostra! We look forward to our yearly trip to Boston and a good part of it is because we get to eat here. The service is impeccable, the ambiance can't be beat and the food is our favorite in Boston. The seabass tartare is absolutely amazing! Its so delicious I wanted another one. Seriously, I'd have to say its my favorite thing I've ever eaten. The fish is always cooked to perfection. The oysters are the best and the accompaniments to them are better than anywhere (housemade cocktail sauce, vinegar, tobacco). The pasta dishes are out of this world. The lobster risotto is indescribable and that's from someone who doesn't even care for risotto. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth every, single cent? Absolutely! Ostra is my favorite restaurant in Boston and that's hard to define because there are so many amazing places to eat.
We've been to Ostra twice in the past month and love it. The servers are amazing, the food is high quality, and the noise level of the dining room isn't too quiet nor too loud. It's a great place for seafood in Boston. The only issue we've had to send salmon back both times we went because it was undercooked. We like our salmon medium-well/well. We specified "cooked through". They immediately corrected the mistake and were great about it, but probably something they shouldn't error on twice in a row.
Lovely environment with jellyfish like light fixtures and horseshoe crab images around. Live piano player for a nice touch. Comfy seating. Excellent service from start to finish. Food was interesting and delicious. Portions were good-sized. The deconstructed Boston cream pie was fabulous.
Expensive, but worth it.
If you can find someone to share it with, get the Salt Crusted Branzino for 2. The menu says to allow 45 minutes, but that time will pass quickly if you avail yourself of a round of appetizers or two.
And don't skip the desserts. The Warm Chocolate Torte is to die for.
The wine list is one of the best in the city. There are some rare wines with prices to match. There are only a handful under $100, but since you are already spending $25 on an appetizer and $45 for an entree, you might as well try something you can't get every day.
This was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday with friends
5 star all the way. Amazing wine menu, service and food! Will be back.
Everything is top notch here. Service, food and beverage! Ostra is always our pick for special occasions and sometimes just for date night!
Food, ambiance and service was outstanding!
10 year anniversary
It is a beautiful, impressive restaurant, visually.
Plenty of friendly, professional staff to help and serve. The food was excellent, although we only ordered appetizers with a salad.
Very expensive but lovely for a special occasion.
Food took an hour to come. The paella was disappointing - over cooked, and the clams and mussels on top were dried out. An elegant venue, but pretentious and lacking authenticity. Of 3 high end restaurants we visited in Boston over a short visit, it was the least satisfying.
The food at Ostra is fantastic. We started dinner early so the room was rather quiet but by the time we left, all the tables were filled (on a Tuesday night no less) and it was starting to get a bit louder.
Food quality and service were outstanding. The music was too loud with a constant beating sound which spoiled the peaceful dining experience. High class place with low class music.
Nice evening, food was good. Service was good, but for those prices, I expected slightly better service.
Perfect choice for a special occasion. It's been a long time since I've been to restaurant where I planned my return trip before finishing dinner.
Outstanding food. The location of the restaurant is perfect!
Appetizers: Risotto was good, Lobster was average. Entrees: Monkfish was tasteless, Halibut was good. Desserts: both okay, nothing special. Very noisy, felt corporate. Very expensive ($40+ entrees) given the lack of ambience overall and quality of food specifically. Will never go again and would never recommend.
As always, excellent food and friendly, nonintrusive service. Had a half dozen Thatch Island Cape Cod oysters: fabulous, briny, meaty. I ordered the Roasted Local Monkfish "Saddle," in a ragout, fine herbs, shaved matsutakes, shallots, and garlic. Delicious from beginning to end! We also ordered their always spectacular Grilled Branzino Filet with lemon, garlic and herb baste, roasted potato, Vidalia onion, and radish. For dessert, I had the baked to order Warm Chocolate Torte with Chocolate crumble, Tahitian vanilla ice cream. Always a great meal!!!
Excellent creative seafood options, but also something for those who like other choices. Very broad wine list. Attentive staff.
Really delicious, and different offerings than you will find at many Boston seafood restaurants (i.e., they had grouper, grilled octopus, branzino, etc.). The service was high-end and top-notch. The food was excellent. Pricey - but definitely worth it for special occasions. We went for a business dinner on a Monday night, and were among just a handful of patrons when we arrived. By the time we left, the place was packed! Highly recommend.
Salmon was terrific!
Nice setting and lovely service but the food was average and heavily overpriced. The table next to us had two very unpleasant women who alternated between complaining loudly to the manager (looking for a free meal IMO) and flirting with the waiter which made it generally unpleasant
The food was excellent, There were a lot of non seafood choices in the menu for my husband who doesn’t eat seafood. The non seafood options were great. This really helps for couples who have different preferences. We loved the carpaccio, octopus, paella, grilled huge tiger prawns and monk fish.
