Friendly neighborhood spot. Menu is a bit limited but food was done well
Lovely. Single diners are treated very well. I would go back again.
Very accommodating for a single diner. Provided a cozy table in the corner away from the hubbub as well as attentive service. The Pasta with lamb sauce was delicious.
We celebrated my son's 12th birthday there. Solid, dependable, consistently good food. It's one of those neighborhood places where you know you'll be greeted with a smile and the food will be exactly as tasty and comforting as you expect.
The food is excellent, the service graceful and the ambiance is quiet.
Though not frequently, we've been eating at Osteria since it opened many years ago. To some extent, it is the comfortable neighborhood spot that you'd expect in Pacific Heights--no challenge and no surprises. If you are looking there for young folks, you came to the wrong place. It's a bit like going to the symphony/ballet/theater--hair is white/colored/grey/absent. That's not a dig at Osteria; we're glad we dined there with good friends. Just don't expect a stellar culinary adventure--it's a comfortable place to dine with old (in both senses) friends.
This was our second time there. Our meals were excellent, and the service was outstanding. We had a great antipasto plate followed by some fantastic ravioli. Our entrees were well prepared although one of our party found her scampi to be bland.
While the wine list is limited, the Sauvignon Blanc we ordered was superb.
We fully intend to go to Osteria again.
Remembered Osteria as a go to neighborhood find and was not disappointed. However, my wife did not receive her appetizer and her grilled course chicken was overcooked and very dry.
My lasagna special was very good and the other couples food was thoroughly enjoyed.
The restaurant is cozy, the servers nice when they appear (service is a little slow), but the food was disappointing. My veal piccata was swimming in butter with no real flavor, the vegetable sides were bland. The Caprese appetizer was bland as well, some salt/pepper and herbs would have been welcome. I love Italian food, but this is not a restaurant I would revisit.
We we’re warmly welcomed, seated immediately, and enjoyed a delicious, authentic Italian meal served by attentive and unpretentious staff!
Thoroughly enjoyable meal. Service, good, ambiance. Relaxed, casual yet serious quality.
The food could be updated but it's good old fashioned Italian-all classics. Huge portions, too. The prices are fair, not cheap. They seemed to be short staffed the night we went (Sat.) & there are lots of seniors who need space for walkers, etc. It's across the street from a movie theater so it's convenient. Parking was easy.
A great neighborhood gem. Wonderful food and charm!
Excellent neighborhood Italian bistro. All the food is good, and pastas are exceptional.
We had a 3 person team business dinner at Osteria on a quiet Tuesday night. We joined a locals crowd for a satisfying Italian dinner and dessert. The food was very good, the service was even better and it was priced as a neighborhood regular destination, not as the destination, once a year anniversary dinner destination. My only comment was that the finishes and lighting in the dining room are due for an update but if the licals aren’t commenting it would seem Osteria would stretch that out as long as possible. Be forwarned, they serve wine but no cocktails. I would go back, for sure!
This restaurant has been around a long time and the menu doesn't change but is very consistent. The best calamari I have had. The staff is experienced and also been there a long time. The owner is usually on the premises. We were seated right away even though folks without a res were waiting. It is beer and wine only so have your cocktail at home.
Come here often and have always been pleased with the food, service and atmosphere!
Osteria leaves nothing to chance. You always get what you expect. Interesting, good food, cooked to order, very friendly service and ambience. And, almost always bump into a friend or neighbor. We will return.
Cozy, inviting, neighborhood favorite for years. Warm lighting, pretty decor. Shrimp with artichoke bottoms is unique, outstanding appetizer; delicious light, fresh pastas. Attentive, welcoming staff.
We were kept waiting even though we had a reservation. Hostess brought us each a glass of wine while we waited, and that was a nice touch. Excellent food, great service, and quiet enough environment that we could actually converse normally. We will go back.
Osteria has been my favorite neighborhood restaurant for decades. Over the years it has gone through several ownership changes, but the food, service and ambiance have always remained top notch. The modern Italian cuisine is delicious--always flavored perfectly. This is not a restaurant that over-salts either.
Had a marvelous Christmas weekend dinner with family before attending a concert at St. Ignatius Church. Food selection & quality meet the picky eating habits of the 23 yo vegetarian to the 80 year old foodie in the group. Service was excellent, price was excellent. Would definitely return.
Juan is an excellent waiter. The food is authentic Italian.
This is a real neighborhood gem consistently good!
Initially waiter helped us but then after that never saw the waiter. The bus person was the only one we saw till bill timw. Never a check in after food delivered to see if ok.
Just what we hoped for in a neighborhood place. Simple Italian staples well prepared. Had a very welcoming vibe. We’ll be back.
We always love eating at Osteria. Perfect can zy neughborhood Italian restaurant. Delicious minestrone soup My husband had the lamb ragu with penne pasta. Unbelievable !!!!! I had a wonderful
Eggplant parmigiana. Every time we return the owner Gina and her staff always treat us like family. Until next time Grazie
Excellent as usual!
One of my favorite SF restaurants for over 20 years. Excellent Italian food.
Just a wonderful restaurant when you want to have a great meal and a comfortable surrounding.
Recommend by our hotel as an authentic Italian restaurant. Clearly, it is very Italian. The server's description of the specials caused us to want all of them. The food was excellent and we're going back. The staff made a wonderful effort to see that all diners were made to feel welcome and to enjoy their meal.
Food good. Lovely people. Nice time always.
Love this place. Beautiful neighborhood spot, really San Franciscan in the old-fashioned good way we need more of these days. Good food, good wine, lovely ambience, good service and very cozy. Walked over after a movie at The Vogue. A perfect evening.
Always a great evening spot. Food is very good and consistent. Staff is friendly and efficient. Great classic SF neighborhood ambiance. Street parking is usually not a problem. Salads always fresh.
Osteria is a neighborhood gem. he pasta is always fresh and is yummy. The deserts are special and the service just right. I had veal scallopini with capellini. Two thumbs up!
All ways good and some of the best pasta
Great neighborhood restaurant
Great food and service, but acoustics rather noisy
One of my favorite neighborhood spots. The owner is there almost every night and she stops by at each table and talks to customers. Great comfort food!
First time to the restaurant, We were meeting friends for drinks later and decided to have dinner. We had a delicious meal and will come back again. We found awesome parking (just one block away and didn't even have to say the "parking prayer.")
