Osteria Ratings and Reviews
I'm so sad to write this review. Have been going here for decades . Unfortunately, the restaurant now offers up bad food , bad hospitality , and bad service. radicchio, arugula and watercress salad used to be a lovely blend of the three. Now it's a few slivers of radicchio and two sprigs of watercress on top. The veal picatta's sauce tasted more of thickener than lemon, the capers were an afterthought. most sadly though, when our salmon came smothered in a red cream sauce we asked to see the menu. was in black-and-white: " salmon with tomatoes and basil." both the waiter and the owner defensively said when Italian say tomatoes they mean sauce. this in itself would've been bad enough, but both we and our friends have all been regular patrons of this restaurant for over 20 years. the word gracious was obviously not in their vocabulary. You used to have to wait to get in here without a reservation. Now the 20% full restaurant speaks for itself. Make that 15%, as I won't be going back.
I have been to Osteria many times over the past many years, but it's been a while. It was always a go-to place for any occasion and you could count on having a very nice meal. This time is was somewhat disappointing. There were 4 of us diners, and 2 were happy with their meal and 2 were not. When I let the waiter and maitre 'd know, they both said they were sorry and would let the kitchen know, but did not offer anything for our displeasure. I doubt that I will return to this once favored restaurant.
Took my wife and my granddaughter. We each had a different dish and each one was terrific. I had calamari steak which was the best I have ever had. My wife had a fish dish and my granddaughter had pasta. Everything was great with the Tiramisu they had for dessert.
We love Osteria. We always go there after seeing a movie at The Vogue -- or shopping on Sacramento Street. Great little neighborhood spot. Food is authentic -- the service can be a bit slow but attentive. Lots of light. Comfortable. (Tables are a little close).
The prices are reasonable and the food is consistent. You need reservations on weekends.
Osteria is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant with excellent Italian food, great service, cheery laid back atmosphere and a caring personable staff. I highly recommend the Gnocchi, soft fluffy pillows of joy...I always ask for it with meat sauce. We just went for mother's day and often go there for special occasions. I almost don't want to submit this review because it's one of the best restaurants in the City and one of the best kept secrets of S.F. Tell only a select few who appreciate great food and a wonderful dining experience at a very reasonable price!
Looking for a Sunday night dinner in the city, fancied some pasta so after a bit of Yelping we settled on Osteria. From the outside, didn't think this was going to work out but don't let the initial impression put you off - it is small, and tables are close together, but the food was really good! Everything seemed fresh and was certainly tasty! Good size portions without being overwhelming and everything was full of flavor. Great value for money!!
We really enjoyed Osteria in SF. Parking in the area for a Sunday night isn't bad to find a spot on the street. The quality of the food is excellent. The artichoke hearts with shrimp was fresh and delightful. The mozzarella with tomatoes was excellent and artistically presented on the plate. We loved our salmon and calamari entrees. The calamari was breaded and lightly fried, and it was just delicious. The salmon cut like butter, and the red sauce was delicious. The risotto with mushrooms and asparagus was great side dish. But the cheese cake dessert was exceptional! It was a cheese cake that you won't forget. The hazelnut ice cream was delicious. We would definitely go back for more. And the prices are reasonable, too.
Our family of four have eaten at Osteria now for 35 years. We visit there 4-5 times a year. We'd eat there more often if we lived near SF. It was an Easter dinner and we enjoyed every bite! The wait staff is nice and efficient and the food is truly excellent. Pasta is cooked perfectly and the sauces are excellent as well. It is our "go-to" restaurant when we want to really enjoy fresh Italian food, salads and soups.
We were in town visiting, staying down the street and wanted dinner close by. We were thrilled to find this little restaurant. We had a delicious meal and it was easy and comfortable and the service was lovely. We loved the pasta dishes we ordered. A real neighborhood gem.
Osteria can always be counted on to provide an excellent meal. We have eaten there often and have never been disappointed. The house salad is superb, the pastas are delicious, and the meat courses are excellent. it is wonderful neighborhood restaurant with a very attentive wait staff.
I have been to Osteria many times over the years and loved it and excellent food. It seems to have gone down in food quality. We had to send back the prawns as they had a sauce that didn't go with them and was tasteless. They did switch the dish out. Service ok.
I have eaten here several times over the years, and always looked forward to it. This time, the service was horrible. Our water glasses weren't refilled, we couldn't catch the waiter's attention, the table next to ours wasn't cleared until I requested it, and I actually had to get up and take the check to the waiter. I won't return, and that is disappointing.
