Recommend by our hotel as an authentic Italian restaurant. Clearly, it is very Italian. The server's description of the specials caused us to want all of them. The food was excellent and we're going back. The staff made a wonderful effort to see that all diners were made to feel welcome and to enjoy their meal.

Love this place. Beautiful neighborhood spot, really San Franciscan in the old-fashioned good way we need more of these days. Good food, good wine, lovely ambience, good service and very cozy. Walked over after a movie at The Vogue. A perfect evening.

Always a great evening spot. Food is very good and consistent. Staff is friendly and efficient. Great classic SF neighborhood ambiance. Street parking is usually not a problem. Salads always fresh.

One of my favorite neighborhood spots. The owner is there almost every night and she stops by at each table and talks to customers. Great comfort food!

First time to the restaurant, We were meeting friends for drinks later and decided to have dinner. We had a delicious meal and will come back again. We found awesome parking (just one block away and didn't even have to say the "parking prayer.")

Homemade Pastas are great as well as chicken ( yes, chicken _worth having even if you eat it more times than you want to admit). Gnocchi is light and airy, like grandma made, and you won't find that too many places. Probably the best in the City.
Service staff is friendly and make the evening more enjoyable. Good wines at "reasonable" prices. Try it !

Went to Osteria for the first time since moving to the neighborhood and the food was fantastic. Great neighborhood restaurant. I had the half roast chicken from the specials menu and it was amazingly moist and tender. Would definitely recommend and would go back. Great!

My favorite neighborhood restaurant which NEVER disappoints. The food is consistently delicious and the service always impeccable. The specials are a lovely array of traditionally prepared Italian dishes. The regular menu has my favorite--Capellini with basil, garlic and tomatoes. To die for!

Have gone there for years. Have eaten there with family and friends. It has a very relaxed feeling and the help is friendly. You see many regulars there like myself for you know you will always get a good meal Their red sauce which they serve with some entrees is delicious. They have many excellent choices on the menu. It is one on my favorite places.

The food was good at Osteria, but the service left something to be desired. We were in on a Tuesday evening for dinner. When the server came to take our order and my friend and I double checked with each other what we were ordering (we were sharing starters), she said "you guys obviously aren't ready, so I'll come back" which was abrupt and then she practically ran away from our table before we'd had a chance to ask for wine. They then hovered over us and kept asking if we were done, they seemed put-out that we wanted dessert and coffee and while we were still finishing the last of our wine, they came over to tell us they were closed - at 9.40 - and asked how much longer we'd need. The food was good and this could be a neighborhood gem, but there was no customer care whatsoever - I left feeling like they were annoyed to have to deal with customers at all. I probably won't go back because I wouldn't want to repeat the service experience.

Great meal as usual and we were seated upon arrival.
The only challenge during the meal was the availability of the wait staff.
The problem appeared to be under staffing of waiters. The few that were on duty were very capable but more pressed than we have ever experienced trying to serve the full house.

Food was mixed. My veal with mushroom dish was delicious, but my wife's clams and pasta dish was not that great. None-existent sauce and clams overcooked.

I'm so sad to write this review. Have been going here for decades . Unfortunately, the restaurant now offers up bad food , bad hospitality , and bad service. radicchio, arugula and watercress salad used to be a lovely blend of the three. Now it's a few slivers of radicchio and two sprigs of watercress on top. The veal picatta's sauce tasted more of thickener than lemon, the capers were an afterthought. most sadly though, when our salmon came smothered in a red cream sauce we asked to see the menu. was in black-and-white: " salmon with tomatoes and basil." both the waiter and the owner defensively said when Italian say tomatoes they mean sauce. this in itself would've been bad enough, but both we and our friends have all been regular patrons of this restaurant for over 20 years. the word gracious was obviously not in their vocabulary. You used to have to wait to get in here without a reservation. Now the 20% full restaurant speaks for itself. Make that 15%, as I won't be going back.

I always hesitate to rate a restaurant five stars but when you take into consideration the price this place is definitely a great Italian restaurant.

We just got back from Italy and quite honestly this was just as good as many of the places we ate there.

A surprising gem of a find, stumbled upon it while driving around the neighborhoods of San Francisco. The food tasted authentic and high end, the atmosphere was buzzing, and the service was top notch.
