Our welcoming atmosphere and flavorful menu reflect all that is Sicily:
warm, inviting sunshine, sea-kissed beaches, abundant farmlands, and a rich,
long-standing food culture, infused with the unique and special tastes and fragrances only found on this beloved Italian island.
The Sicilian people treasure time spent at family dinners, sharing and laughing as they gather around Mama’s kitchen table. Osteria Rusticana is proud to offer you this very experience, right here in the heart of Chicago.
We use the finest ingredients (many imported directly from our network of family owned Sicilian farms), and our unique recipes (based on those handwritten gems passed down through generations of Sicilian families ) to bring Sicily to you, straight from Mama’s kitchen!
Birthday celebration went fabulous. They have everything you need, delicious food beautiful patio and the best service I ever had. Salute.
Osteria Rusticana is nothing short of amazing. Great ambiance, service and the most authentic Southern Italian food you will find outside of Italy. Will go back any chance we get.
Fabulous food. Service was a little slow, so make sure you have enough time.
Owner was great! Our server was amazing! Giving great recommendations! Loved it
We had a wonderful time! Food was outstanding and service was fantastic. Felt very authentic.
One of my fav Italian restaurants. Everything is delicious starting with appetizers to dessert. You will definitely need to try their house made limoncello. Great place to dine.
Every so often you go out for a meal and everything is right. The vibe, the creature comforts and of course the food. Osteria Rusticana hit the trifecta! If it’s good weather, enjoy sitting outside and hearing the sounds of the city glide past. We started with meatballs in a red sauce, they were savory and exactly the right texture. Extra points for the red sauce since it is the closest I’ve ever had to my moms. Our main dishes were gnocchi in pesto and tagliatelle with sausage. Sounds average?! Anything but!! The pesto was underscored with a hint of almonds and every bite was mouthwatering. The tagliatelle was a fusion of different tastes that worked so well together. We did it, we had dessert too. When they brought out the platter of cannolis we thought they were small. They were just right though. Props to the owner - he is hands on and does it well and he even got us to speak a little Italian.
Luca was awesome...very cordial and welcoming. The repast is authentic and epicurean....
The worst fettuccine ai frutti di mare I've ever had. The broth had zero flavor and the mussels were the smallest possible. The chef is either lazy or incompetent or the whole thing is a scan.
Food and service are amazing. This was our third visit and we will go back!
The restaurant was charming, the staff friendly and professional, the food, unfortunately, was just mediocre. We may try it again in a several months as I understand it just opened a few weeks ago.
One of our local favorites. Always consistently wonderful-you can’t beat their homemade pasta. We had the paperdella with truffle (I kept eating off my husbands plate) and I had the pesto cream sauce fettuccine - literally considered taking home the sauce that was left on the plate. Luca and team always welcome us with open arms with a great and friendly atmosphere.
We ate outside and it was absolutely lovely. Split a bottle of wine, appetizers, and then the four of us did our own entrees and not one plate had food remaining. Delicious!
What a surprise to have such a delicious and well priced authentic Italian meal in wicker park without all the pretension! Will definitely return!
This was our first visit to this restaurant. Wonderful surprise. There were four of us and we had a variety of food, all of which was perfectly prepared. The host and servers could not have been more accommodating and worked around a late arriving guest. The only negative was the excessive noise level in the small space. Conversation with friends and communication with staff was very difficult.
High quality fresh food, very attentive staff and owner. Nice ambience - not quiet but par for an Italian place. Food comes out from the kitchen a little slowly - not horrible, and the staff do check on you while you wait. Worth the wait.
The service was amazing. The food equally so.
Turn down Frank. I love him but maybe play it low
It’s the real deal. Felt like we were in Italy.
Food was just not that great. Love the owner and wine was great but would not go back.
Authentic southern Italy cuisine, with good pasta 'al dente'. Nice wine list with focus on the Italian ones. Very friendly service. Good experience for a dinner with friends. Salute!
Wonderful ambiance, top notch menu, and execution of the dishes is excellent! You can’t go wrong with the wine menu, especially not if a recommendation is offered on the topic! If you’re looking for caringly-handmade pasta thoughtfully-constructed dishes, and friendly yet polite waitstaff, this is the place for you!
Great Italian food! I have lived in Itlay and my spouse is Italian. The arancini/suppli are delicious! The calimari, great! Burrata, delicious! The paste [Itlaian plural of pasta] are delicious and some housemade! This is a great place, great neighborhood place, destination, just go!
Unfortunately, as nice as everyone is at the restaurant our food wasn’t very good. Our muscles appetizer was great however, my shrimp & pasta pasta wasn’t very good. The seafood was rubbery and my pasta was almost hard and very under cooked. My mother’s lasagna was semi-warm with the center being actually cold. It was Mother’s Day and maybe it was just too crowded for properly cook the food.
This is my second time here since the new name / menu – we came for Mother’s Day. It was all amazing.
Our entire family (7 people) loved the food.
The pasta dishes were unbelievably tasty. All the house made breads were fabulous. Carpaccio and bruschetta were the perfect start. Great energy in the room and the entire staff service was top-notch. Umberto was our server and he 100% made the dining experience very special. Can’t wait to come back!
This was my second time coming to Osteria for dinner. We were welcomed and treated like family by the staff. They have a great selection of handmade pastas on the menu. We tried the meatball appetizer which was great and they had a nice specials menu. Good wine selection and they will give you recommendations if you need it. Don’t skip on the dessert, anything with pistachio in it is awesome. I highly recommend trying this, it is my go to Italian restaurant.
Overall, food and service was great. The only thing I would change is slow down on the speed between ordering and food arriving. They were sooner than expected and lost money on apps and drinks.
This is by far one of my favorite places to eat in the city. The staff and food are amazing.
There is no better date night for my fiancé and I than here. Truly everything about it makes it so special.
You walk in and are immediately warmly welcomed with a “buonasera!” You’re made to feel like family and suddenly feel transported to Italy. Luca, who is an institution here and seems to know every single couple and family who arrive, even took the time to teach us how to order in Italian which we now happily try to practice with each visit.
Then there is the food! Everything is authentically Italian. My personal favorites from the main menu are:
-Insalata pantesca- super light tomato salad. Perfect for summer time
-Risotto ai funghi
They also have an outstanding specials menu each night that I’d recommend ordering at least a few things from. My favorite dishes have come from that rotating list.
Each time we come we seem to meet another table who adores this place just as much as we do—it’s clearly not a coincidence. You won’t regret coming.
Long wait, but good food and incredibly nice staff. The wait was likely a byproduct of an off night prepping for their crowds. Food is great and all reasonably priced.
My wife and I haven’t eaten Italian food ANYWHERE else since we first dined here in 2012. Osteria Rusticana (formerly Nando Milano Trattoria) is our “go-to” spot for the elusive date nights, entertaining family, friends, colleagues, and where we tell people to go for a great night out and a flawless meal and wine. The food and service are top notch, along with the family friendly ambiance. On a warm summer night, enjoy eating outside... And when it starts to cool down, stay outside and stay warm with their heat lamps! If you’re there on a night when Luca is working, tell him Rahul and Priya sent you. Trust us, you’ll be glad you went.
Luca was wonderful. The food was delicious. The place looks great, and it was very authentic Italian. My fiancé and I were celebrating our completion of wedding planning, and, when Luca found out, he got us some very good complimentary champagne. We live close by and will definitely be back.
Run by Sicilians, this restaurant is a superb example of traditional Italian restaurant. The menu and wine list ample, as every item was excellent. I have trouble saying enough positive things about this place.
Osteria Rusticana is part neighborhood cornerstone, part Sicilian getaway. The menu is exciting – authentic ingredients, big flavors, fresh and tasty– and we both loved our dinner here.
The Arancini and Calamari were wonderful to start with, Veal (main dish) was perfectly cooked (the sauce was great) and Steak was amazing. Finally, their martinis... mamma mia!
Can’t wait to come come back with family and clients.
We are always in good hands when we go to Osteria Rusticana (previously Nando Milano Trattoria). We are treated like family! I am originally from Italy and I feel like I am back home. Every dish is well prepared with high quality, sometimes imported, ingredients and never disappointing. Amazing food, amazing people! Legitimately, authentic, Italian (and I lived 25 years there before moving to the states!). Prices have also gone down with the new “name” but the quality is the same if not higher! My husband and I absolutely love the atmosphere and our 9 month old son does too! You will be welcomed with a warm “Buonasera” every time you step in, and trust me, you will come back!
5 starts with no doubt!
This spontaneous choice turned into a pleasant surprise and a new favorite! Excellent service and a delightful menu that featured many more aspects of Italy other than just pasta. The server was attentive and was able to give a great recommendation for a bottle of wine. Also must mention that the bottled wine prices are really affordable.
The bread basket is served with some delicious olive oil marinated olives. We started with the Burrata and prosciutto special, Mussels/Clams special, and the Radicchio salad. All 3 dishes were all really enjoyable and the Burrata was my favorite.
Next we had the Pappardelle with mushrooms and truffles, and the Lamb chop.... these were done soooo well! The pasta could have been more al dente, but the sauce was perfect with abundant mushroom and Parmesan flavor and the dish was topped with shaved white truffles. The lamb chop was cooked melt in your mouth perfect and was served with a rich gravy sauce with potatoes and Brussel sprouts.
For dessert we had an affogato and the pistachio tiramisu. The affogato was perfect and this a personal favorite dessert so I really enjoyed it. They have an espresso machine in house. The tiramisu was done with orange and I found it a little over powering for the delicate pistachio lady fingers but it was still an interesting twist on a classic dessert.
This is a great restaurant in wicker park and absolutely adorable for a date night or special occasion. Will be back <3
Since we have been coming to this location for quite some time we decided to give a new menu and owners a try so some of this review will be comparisons.
The ambiance is the same as it used to be, but seating now it much better. The new owners decided to go with wraparound booths which makes the space look bigger in my opinion. The staff is same so service is as wonderful as it has been. New cocktail menu is a bit different, but as varied as it was. It is nice to have new items on the cocktail menu though.
Food menu did change to better align with the southern flavors of Italy and Sicily. The kitchen staff is same as it was so quality of food coming out is as outstanding. We got gnocchi and seafood pasta and every ingredient was cooked perfectly.
Overall we will definitely come back.
Great dinner with outstanding service. Our waiter was awesome. He was very attentive to our needs with great recommendations. The portions were perfect. Our appetizer Burrata con Parma was excellent. The Grilled lamb chops and pappardelle pasta were very flavorful. Also they have a really good selection of wine list. It was a terrific place to enjoy a great meal. Affordable and delicious. Can't wait to go back!
This is the real deal, right out of Italy!!
