Convivial and inviting, Osteria's heart is its open main kitchen from which its award-winning menu of antipasti, homemade pastas, house-cured salumi, authentic Neapolitan and Roman-style pizzas, wood-grilled meats, seafood and decadent desserts are crafted.
Drawing its inspiration from traditional osterias found in Northern Italy, Osteria is the realization of a dream Vetri Family partners Jeff Benjamin and Chefs Marc Vetri and Jeff Michaud had while standing amongst the grapes of the Ca'Marcanda vineyards in Tuscany.
Since opening in 2007, Osteria has become one of the country's most critically acclaimed Italian restaurants, receiving a 3-out-of-4 bell review from the Philadelphia Inquirer, and earning Chef Michaud the 2010 James Beard Foundation Award for ""Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic"" for his work helming the kitchen."

Osteria Ratings and Reviews
After being lead through two dark hallways and past the bathrooms into a dark empty side room, we asked to be seated elsewhere. We were lead back through the restaurant and were seated in the garden room which had plenty of available tables. This set a negative tone to the rest of our experience for no apparent reason.
We enjoyed the food and wine and our server.
I had a thin-crust wood-oven sausage pizza with a baked egg on top. Crust was delicious, charred as it should be, and the toppings were also very good. A first rate pizza. Enjoyed a delicious deep colored Rose - they called it a Fal-say - I believe it was: tornatore, etna rosato doc 2015.
Finished it off with two scoops of Gelato, which was a very large portion but not quite deserving of 5 stars - thus the 4 star reviews. The rest of the menu - from pastas to entrees - looked delicious.
Four of us had a delightful dinner last Saturday night. The wild boar bolognese, ink squid, and salmon main courses were excellent. Rabbit portion a bit small but tasty and the green salad could use some sparkle. The Som recommended a delicious Sardinian red wine. Can’t wait to come back!
Another delicious meal at Osteria! Shared a pasta and meat appetizer with my son. Then we each had a special pizza. We topped it off with gelato. My son ordered one which we planned to share, but our waitress brought a pistachio gelato for me since it was my birthday. Thank you very much! The portions were excellent and the ambience is perfect. The service was excellent as well. Looking forward to my next meal there.....
AMAZINGLY GOOD, even for Osteria. everything we ordered was spectacular - the salumi plate, Andrew's half-duck, my pork-belly/scallops/egg bucatini. But then the chef sent two complimentary dishes, one with the salumi plate (fig carpaccio, which was good, but not as good as anything else we had), and one with the entrees. This was the boar bolognese candele - a FULL entree serving! - which was TO DIE FOR ! Next visit, which will be SOON, this will be my entree order, since with everything else we couldn't finish this.
Ok, it was Halloween, the place was practically empty (which made being in this nice space especially pleasant and the service even better and more attentive than usual), and probably the cooks were bored and needed something to do. So WE were the beneficiaries. A full meal at Osteria with two drinks apiece is not inexpensive, but the two additional plates made tonight's dinner a surprisingly good value.
We have been Osteria regulars almost since it opened, and never had even a mediocre meal. But tonight was REALLY special. I know where Andrew and I will spend next Halloween !!!
First, let me start by saying that the service was great. Our server was very friendly and I was impressed that they brought out a birthday dessert for my boyfriend even though we didn't tell him it was his bday (they must have noticed the gifts on the table). We did the tasting menu and let the chef select all of our courses. The cocktails and pasta were great and the appetizers were good. The meat course was not impressive though, we thought the salmon lacked flavor and the short rib was dry. Overall, it was a good meal but nothing to write home about. This was my first visit to a Vetri restaurant and I just don't think it lived up to the hype. I would consider returning to try the pizza.
Hadn't been for some time and was very pleased to find it delightful again. Had gone one evening a while ago and Osteria felt and sounded like a pizzaria -- which it hadn't done before.
The quail and grilled octopus were terrific starters and my rabbit tender, moist and very flavorful. My companion's pork shortrib was divine ... should have had that!!!
An altogether enjoyable evening.
I'd been looking forward to eating here, but it didn't really meet my expectations. The highlight was the antipasti--delicious vegetable plate, cheese, and charcuterie. The octopus was good, but didn't stand out. The bucatini had good flavor but it came out cold. The service was friendly, but it had some misses. For an occasion spot, I hoped for more.
This was my third visit to Osteria and it will be my last. We had four appetizers, one entree and one dessert. It was as though the only seasoning available to the kitchen was salt. The fig carpaccio was bland and disappointing; the green salad was too salty and the croutons were completely bland - like an afterthought. The porchetta tonatto was bland, too, even the tonnato sauce missed its bite. The only memorable dish of the four was the octopus, which was tender and delicious. The entree was a grilled whole fish, supposedly served with fingerling potatoes and caper berries. We never found those berries. Again, the fish would have been delicious, had it not been too salty. I also found pieces of raw lemon in my fish. Gelato for dessert was fine. I won't go back and that was $180 I'll never have again. There are many better Italian restaurants
in Philly these days, like A Mano.
UPDATE: Kudos to Osteria for a great response to this tepid experience. They called me, apologized sincerely and profusely. The manager even said that they had discussed our concerns at their staff meeting, particularly our feedback about the fish special. $50 gift card arrived in the mail yesterday with a personal contact number. Good for them!
We were blown away by Osteria. We came for lunch, sat at the bar, and felt truly satisfied by the service and the meal. The bread basket was delicious and almost over the top wonderful. The wine list was fun and our bartender knew it so well she made excellent recommendations. And the ability to order half-pours was fantastic. We ordered from the new menu and absolutely savored every bite of the grilled quail, kale, pomegranate salad w saba. We also adored the pheasant ragu w cresto de gallo pasta... They split it into two bowls for us. The perfect comfort meal, and also quite fun. We only wish were hungry enough for a larger lunch, and almost canceled our dinner reservation to return later that evening. Delightful service, fabulous meal. And we didn't even get to try the pizza (yet). We will be back!
Absolutely blown away by Osteria. Exceptional service and incredible meal. Paid special attention to detail and made us feel welcome and comfortable in our meal selections. Our server Trevor was wonderful, front of our house stopped over to chat and say Happy Anniversary and dessert was delivered with a special note. Turned our anniversary dinner into a memorable one. Can't wait to go back, nailed it on all sides! A must try!
Overall, I was disappointed in our dining experience. I had been looking forward to eating at Osteria for some time, but it did not live up to expectations. The entrees (rabbit and ravioli) were quite good. However, the starters and desserts were only average, and the service was disappointing. Our waiter seemed overworked and didn't have much time for us. All in all, not what I had hoped for and we won't be going back.
To me, it is the little things that count. After I had commented that I loved the budino so much I could eat it for breakfast, my waiter, Trevor (I think I got that right), gifted me with "breakfast" to go. After already having a phenomenal meal, it was the icing on the cake to make me fall in love with Osteria.
Family dinner with our Temple Crew Student-Athlete. Restaurant week menu was GREAT. My son & I had the special "Pork Roast". It was incredible ! Courtney , our server was never far away and did a great job.... Your VALET parking service is more important than you may think. Not a great area. That said, one of Philly's BEST !
We made a reservation, but decided to go earlier and see if we could grab a seat at the bar. There were bar seats available and the bar staff was amazing. Our bartender was extremely friendly, made great suggestions for food choices and even suggested a wine pairing. All of the food was amazing. The pannocchia pizza was to die for. I was especially impressed with the pasta choices we selected (eggplant and francobolli ravioli) which were delightful! The pasta is so fresh it tastes nice and light. Osteria is right around the street from our apartment and we feel as though we have discovered a hidden gem in our neighborhood!
