Convivial and inviting, Osteria's heart is its open main kitchen from which its award-winning menu of antipasti, homemade pastas, house-cured salumi, authentic Neapolitan and Roman-style pizzas, wood-grilled meats, seafood and decadent desserts are crafted.

Drawing its inspiration from traditional osterias found in Northern Italy, Osteria is the realization of a dream Vetri Family partners Jeff Benjamin and Chefs Marc Vetri and Jeff Michaud had while standing amongst the grapes of the Ca'Marcanda vineyards in Tuscany.

Since opening in 2007, Osteria has become one of the country's most critically acclaimed Italian restaurants, receiving a 3-out-of-4 bell review from the Philadelphia Inquirer, and earning Chef Michaud the 2010 James Beard Foundation Award for ""Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic"" for his work helming the kitchen."

Went on a Saturday night, had a reservation for 8:45 but it was crowded so we still had to wait about 25 mins for our table. Service was a little slow, but the food was delicious!! 3 women shared the cheese board for an app, then also shared the pizza w/ fontina cheese, chicken dish that was so moist & tasty and the raviolis that were light & paper thin. they melted in your mouth. we were all full, so we passed on dessert. love the look of the place, a little loud in the bar room, but definitely worth a visit. and definitely will return, maybe not on a Sat night when there's less hustle & bustle.

Excellent tasting course selected by the chef. Wonderfully eclectic staff with a through knowledge of the menu willing to offer suggestions and opinions. One of the best meals I ever had. Great before heading to Union Transfer.

A very memorable dining experience. Had been there for lunch several years ago and had a superb dining experience. Outstanding in every way. Would consider coming here to rent the private dining room for a special family event...graduation,anniversary,rehearsal dinner, etc. Just a quality, authentic experience.

The food was delicious. The bread basket had a variety of different types of bread; at least 5 different kinds. For my meal I ordered a stone-baked pizza with octopus, smoked mozzarella, and red pepper flakes. The octopus was so tasty and complimented perfectly by the smoked mozzarella, a real treat. Even better was the dessert, a pear-huckleberry crostata topped with lemon zabaglione. It was so full of strong, fruity flavors and the warm pastry and fruit, combined with the cold lemon zabaglione was the perfect ending to the meal. I'll definitely return and hope to bring others.

Either the server or the chef forgot to put our order in on a late Sunday night. We were there for two hours before we got our entrée, only because my husband finally got up and asked where our food was. Had I not been there before, I would never go back.

Our party of four dined pre-theater. We arrived a little early for our 7 PM reservation and we were seated immediately. The one caveat I will mention is that dining here is not a rushed experience so budget your time accordingly. They offer an extensive offering of specialty cocktails and we highly recommend the sicilian lemonade and the Soprano. I personally could have been extremely happy choosing a few small plates but the black bass and baked lobster both seemed too good to pass up, and they were. To start we enjoyed the seared scallops, the fluke crudo and the tuna crudo. All excellent choices. And the remaining two entrees were trecce ravioli and crespelle; both nice not oversized portions and delicious! We made room for dessert and thoroughly enjoyed the flan, polenta budino (quite unique!) and the apple tarte tatin. This restaurant is easily accessed from the Spring Garden stop on the BSL and we made it down to the Academy in minutes.

The staff was so attentive, there wasn’t a single second that I felt like I needed help and there wasn’t someone around. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and made sure our dinner went by smoothly. The food was delicious! Everything was made with care and came out at a timely manner. Would recommend this to anyone looking to treat themselves!

Appetizer and pasta course amazing. Dinner entrees were salty for me and my friends. The chicken was bribed and texture was unappealing. Dessert was average. It will be unlikely for me to return. The service was super slow. I love a leisurely dinner, but waiting 45 minutes between courses was a problem.

I went to Osteria with my family for an early Easter dinner. I haven't been here in a few years because of the poor experiences I repeatedly had. I conceded against my better judgement and went again. The wait staff was wonderful, however, the food was a major disappointment. They weren't that busy and the food consistently came out "warm" and everything was underwhelming.

They don't have complimentary valet, it's not a great location, the bar is small and the food is mediocre. I won't be going back.

We ate here for Easter Brunch and it was lovely. We’ve been coming to Osteria for years and it is one of our favorite Philadelphia restaurants, but usually we only come for dinner. Brunch was delicious. It was perfectly executed. The ricotta pancakes with mascarpone and berry compote was just sweet enough without being overly sweet. The maple glazed pork belly was so good that I wish I had ordered another side to take home. The pizzas were tasty as always. I have always recommended Osteria for dinner, but now I will make sure to recommend it’s brunch too.

We had a perfectly wonderful brunch at Osteria on Easter Sunday. The menu was diverse (pizza, breakfast dishes, pasta, etc) and all were delicious. The special bloody Mary was exquisite as well. We were four adults and a 6 mon old baby which can be challenging. We were treated with such care and kindness, given a prime table in the lovely sun lit dinning room and taken care by our waitress with excellent service. There is street parking in the area which removes a lot of hassle of going into center city. I am looking forward to my next visit to Osteria. I hope they continue with Sunday brunch. BTW, had dinner there last year and was pleased with that as well.

I'm sorry to say that the quality of the food at Osteria has slipped. It was Easter brunch and perhaps things picked up after we left but the place was nearly empty from 10:30-1:00 p.m. Nonetheless, all waitstaff continue to provide excellent service.

Was glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews in regards to the service. Our waiter was was very helpful with dish selections from the menu. I would highly recommend the mushroom ravioli and octopus pizza...incredible!
My only complaint would be where we were seated. Our table was right by the front door, and was rather annoying when other patrons would be clustered around waiting for their table.
Overall great meal and experience.

We've dined here multiple times per year and always been impressed, but this last visit was a disappointment. The food was still very good (except for dessert) but the service was as if we were an inconvenience at a chain restaurant, not what we've changed me to expect. The host forgot where our table was, our first contact with the server was over 10 minutes after being sat, and our server alternated between obtrusive and absent in all the wrong ways (but kudos to the excellent food runners and bus staff who really kind of redeemed the meal). When it came time to order dessert, it took over 20 minutes for it to arrive and strangely it was both burnt and cold. Another server wound up finally bringing our drinks over after our appetizers had already arrived. Everything felt generic and not what we would expect for a restaurant of this (former) caliber. I now see why they are taking time to reboot this summer, I hope it helps with some of these issues, sorry to cross this one off the list for a while.

What a difference a decade can make. I ate here nearly a decade ago, during that time the food, service, buzz around the city was enormous.
I returned to Philadelphia dreaming of braised rabbit, amazing desserts, great pizza and pastas.
So. Once I returned I got three friends together and made reservations. Upon arrival I was thrilled to see the same old space that turned me onto inventive pasta, pizza and anti pasta.
As we sat in the covered patio on a brisk Monday or server approached the table to go over the menu. Which never really happened. What we received was the back side of the menu is wine highlights and if we were interested there was a tasting menu available.
We ordered a bottle of wine that the sommelier opened and poured and started our meal.
Starting with the porchetta and tuna. Both good but nothing that was a wow factor from memories of a decade ago.
After we had the lombarda pizze. This was not at all the pizza I remembered. Not even close! It was thin. Small. Cut as if Edward scissorhands had gotten drunk and stumbled across our pie.
Everything went down hill from here. Literally everything.
We ordered the fusilli which was so bland and over cooked it tasted like nothing. The francobolli has good flavor; the rabbit. Ugh. Poor rabbit. Not at all what I had a decade ago. This was an embarrassment. The polenta was undercooked and basically stuck to the plate. The rigatoni was truly amazing once upon a time came in a bowl that could feed six people let alone three. This to was under seasoned but at least not over cooked.
As we presented the manager with this knowledge we felt as if he was bartering with us. Instead of taking or comments to heart that honestly it was plain gross.
As we ordered desserts and tried to forget our experience (ordering 3 by the way) or server decided my friends wine glass was done. Never once pouring water or refilling wine throughout the meal. Will never return. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! What a joke of a restaurant.

Well it was one of my favorite restaurants in the city until my recent visit. Like every time I go to dinner I made a reservation. I got there and was informed they were running behind and it may be a few minutes. No worries. Well 35 mins later I had to actually go back to the hostess and find out what the issue was only to find she was apparently to busy to really help us. We eventually got seated only to be rushed to order and felt rushed through dinner

The wait staff were frustrating... they were quickly annoyed with questions about dietary restrictions or how/what to share. It continued to devolve as there seemed to be a series of miscommunications among the staff. It was a birthday dinner and the tension kinda took the fun out of the event.

To begin with we could barely see. The room was dark. When the cheese board came out I thought oh cripes is this another garden to table nonsense. Cheese is cheese I surely made sure I did not have any so my guests could eat. Btw your hostess and waiters continually put the menus on the bread plates....when was the last times the menus were wiped down? Your entrees were unappealing, I ate pizza which the dough was to thick. I really don’t know how you do it who you are appealing to a pizza crowd or fine dining. BIG disappointment.

I like Osteria even though it's been through 3 different owners. Somehow the quality of the food remains reliably high. It does get a bit noisy for my taste - though younger people may enjoy the hubbub & bustle. Really good food - and there's that fabulous chocolate lava cake thing for dessert!!!

The good news is that you absolutely can trust the recent reviews on opentable!

We had reseverations for a party of 8 on a saturday night. We were seated 35 minutes after our reservation and received a free glass of prosecco for our wait. The food was lovely, but ultimately it was hard to get over the service. Everyone was friendly and there were plenty of runners, but ultimately our server wasn't at the table regularly enough. If you're going into this with managed expectations you will be fine. Order an overpriced bottle of wine and settle in!
