Convivial and inviting, Osteria's heart is its open main kitchen from which its award-winning menu of antipasti, homemade pastas, house-cured salumi, authentic Neapolitan and Roman-style pizzas, wood-grilled meats, seafood and decadent desserts are crafted.
Drawing its inspiration from traditional osterias found in Northern Italy, Osteria is the realization of a dream Vetri Family partners Jeff Benjamin and Chefs Marc Vetri and Jeff Michaud had while standing amongst the grapes of the Ca'Marcanda vineyards in Tuscany.
Since opening in 2007, Osteria has become one of the country's most critically acclaimed Italian restaurants, receiving a 3-out-of-4 bell review from the Philadelphia Inquirer, and earning Chef Michaud the 2010 James Beard Foundation Award for ""Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic"" for his work helming the kitchen."

Osteria Ratings and Reviews
Went here for Valentine’s Day after hearing great things. We were seating in a back room almost directly on top of another table. There were only 3 other couples dining in this room and we were sat so close to another table I could hear everything they were saying, and they were whispering. There were plenty of other tables I assumed were being kept for bigger parties, but while we were dining, two other couples were ushered back and seated at the bigger tables. The apps were ok. We got the octopus and and scallops. Both had good flavor but were served to us cold. Our entree portions were small. Having never been there I didn’t know that we should’ve ordered more courses or sides. It wasn’t awful, I was just expecting more after hearing great things.
Everything we ordered was delicious , I wish there had been cake on the dessert menu but the polenta budino was delicious as well. Service here is exceptional and I really enjoyed being escorted by wait staff to the restroom. All of the staff members were very polite to a lady which made me feel special.
The customer service was amazing. I had left a message to see if they could put out flowers for my wifes birthday..they didn't BUT when I went to pay they brought her a scoop of ice cream with a candle. So I know they took the time to care for my needs which was amazing! I would recommend this place its very delicious and perfect for any occasion.
Great Everything!!! Service (go, Liz; Robert, the valet was terrific, too! Big smile, friendly efficient...)
Fabulous food (skate, pear carpaccio!, incredible light small ravioli that explodes with the bite, perfect prosciutto (nice quantity) and Amazing chicken liver ragu rigatoni...unbelievable
Ambiance reminds us of the spots we love in NY with a casual, alive warmth of decor as well as a very cool vibe!
We’ll be back!
Rest easily - Osteria's alive, well, & still fabulous. Antipasti of roasted porchetta for me & grilled octopus for my wife were wonderful. The porchetta melts in the mouth, with huge flavor & velvety feel. My wife had a lentil dish while I ate squid ink gnudi - amazing black dumplings (wonderfully al dente) with calimari & spicy 'nduja (one of my favorite things ever!) . Then I had a braised shank while my wife enjoyed a fish special. As usual here, we found another wine (fenocchio) new to us, reasonably priced, & excellent. And the staff remain caring, attentive, & top notch professionals. Having come through a season of change to be better than ever, Osteria's looking strong & we're thrilled.
This was my second time at Osteria and it wasn't as great as I remembered. The bread basket was as amazing as I remembered, and the food was good, but there was something off about the service and the pace and the overall experience. Might give it another try in the future to see if they get their groove back.
This was our third dinner at Osteria and each has been highly satisfying but this last trip may have been the best. Four of us had four different meals and each was shared and judged to be outstanding. Service is quite good with different servers having a well defined role and quite helpful in describing the dishes. We were in the outside enclosed area and actually prefer it to being inside since it's a bit more intimate. Osteria remains high on our list.
We have been dining at Osteria since it opened. Our meal last week was disappointing. The mortadella pizza had too much olive oil & the crust was not at all what we are used too. We each had a pasta dish and both agreed they too had too much oil.
Not so sure if we will return
Service was excellent.
Food was overpriced and extremely rich. If you have been to Italy this will be a big disappointment. The success of Italian cuisine is it's simplicity and freshness of ingredients. Our pasta was underwhelming, overloaded with cheese and overpriced. The scallops were ok but again overpriced. We had the restaurant week menu and this was our second time in three years trying this place because of a gift card we had laying around. We won't be back but it's a shame, the service is great.
Great service, our waitress on the patio on January 26 was outstanding, engaging, knew the menu and the wine list. Our food just lacked that outstanding feature, maybe was warmed up? It seemed like it should be more tasty. Both of our entries were different and we both had the same critiques of our dishes.
We tested this restaurant as part of Philly Restaurant week. We had a rabbit dish and ravioli. Both were excellent. The ravioli was stuffed with mushrooms and even though my daughter does not generally like mushrooms she loved them. They were so light they almost melted in your mouth. Amazing. For dessert he butter honey gelato was exquisite.
Very weak service from our server. Not especially well trained or attuned to pace or diner feelings.
The food was nicely prepared, delicious.
The wine list is extensive, but lacks range across value points (pretty much all significantly overpriced versus other restaurants.)
This place has declined since Mark Vetri sold it.
Visited with friends to celebrate birthdays ( 1 adult, 1 teenager ) and a retirement. All our plates were clean !!!! Food was well prepared ( pork, chicken, lobster and salmon ) ; service was great. It was my 7 th visit and I’m looking forward to my next visit.
After a bit of confusion at the hostess stand, we were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time even though our party had all arrived and checked in on time.
We kept it simple and ordered pizzas to share for appetizers and individual pastas for main course.
The beet, endive and Gorgonzola pizza is fabulous. My wife had mushroom ravioli, and I ordered wild boar ragu. Both were excellent.
Osteria is a consistent bet.
A blessedly quiet evening at Osteria, though Andrew and I worry since last time we were here it was also very quiet. But our charming server, Zeke, assured us that he has been working his tail off for the last three months, so a quiet Wednesday was ok with him, since he gets to really attend to his tables.
We shared the salumi platter, our usual Lombarda pizza, and two Primi: the candele with wild boar bolognese and the pheasant gnocchi. ALL great, as were my two Sicilian lemonades. After 11 years (and we attended two of the 10-year celebration dinners), we still love this place, even though Mr Vestri has departed.
Keep it up, guys!
The polpo pizza was unique and delicious. The polenta ravioli with the bone marrow sauce was light and also delicious. I will definitely return to try more items on the menu. The dessert menu was also excellent. We had the gelato with affogato and brioche and the chef sent out the chocolate mousse with hazelnuts. Both were very, very good.
What a beautiful dinner! We came for my 27 year old daughter's birthday, and it was special from start to finish. Each course was delicious, and the wait staff was just terrific. In all ways this was a wonderful experience. It's been a while since we've been here and this was a lovely reminder that we should come more often.
Despite making reservation 28 days in advance,we were taken through the dining area, down a corridor flanked on both sides with kitchen prep and storage. Then made a right turn through the line waiting to use the unisex bathrooms and were seated at a table in a room so dim that everyone was using phone lights or in my case a candle to read the sparse menu. The grilled octopus and pears were unremarkable. The steak for two was just a piece of meat with TURNIPS???? I guess potato's are just too common...My date and I decided to skip the double chocolate whatever and get a donut on the way home. ........This place was great just one year ago!!!
