One of LA's finest Italian restaurants, Osteria Mozza in Hollywood is still very much at the top of its game.
Overpriced for the quality of food. I think the food was average. Ordered mozzarella tasting (3 mozzarella balls), grilled octopus, cheese egg ravioli, steak and quail. The food wasn’t that tasty. Normally I finish everything on my plate but the quail and steak wasn’t worth finishing.
Not near as good as it was during the first couple years they were open
The food, especially the lamb shank dish, was wonderful. The service was indifferent, inattentive, smug.
The best mozzarella and desserts I've ever had. And the entire menu was amazing too!
Food was delicious especially the stuffed pasta. Dessert was to die for, the dark chocolate cake was outstanding and probably one of the best dessert I have had
As usual a wonderful dining experience. Wait staff is very professional. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and recommended a wonderful wine to complement our meal.
The cuisine is the finest.
Really great food. Has been on my bucket list for a while because of Nancy, it lived up to expectations completely. Grilled Quail was excellent, as was the rabbit pappardelle. The dessert, bombolini, was hands down one of the most creative and well paired combo. Highly recommend.
Great place over all. Good food, good ambience, good service. They should improve their ventilation. My clothes still smell food after my dinner there.
Overall this was a great restaurant. But then what would you expect from Mario Batali and Nancy Silverton. The octopus starter was tender and flavorful. The duck was crispy to perfection and the sea bass was moist and tasty. Then we really indulged with the bombollini desert. Forgive the spelling but the review is right on. Lol.
Service was beyond outstanding! Price felt great for the food and service provided! Celebrated mine and my best friends birthday and it was the perfect setting! Would also recommend to anyone looking for a different and elegant experience!
Our waiter was not so great ... kind of spoiled the ambiance .
Nancy and team .... incredible meal and service! I will definitely be back on my next visit to LA.
As of this message I am waiting for a response to an email from the venue.
"Our reservation was for 8:00pm, and were seated promptly. That was about all that went well.
* We had to ask at least 2 times for bread. It was not initiated by your staff.
* The complimentary crustini came out at least 20 min. after we sat down.
* Our apps (Mozzarella with condimenti, oxtail ragu) came out after we were on our second set of bread and what felt like a very long time, with no explanation of why; most likely because the kitchen was in the weeds.
* Our main orders (tagliata di manzo), although cooked perfectly were cold, and the salad was drenched in dressing. Since it was now about 9pm we were not about to ask for a re-fire, or bother with complaining, we just wanted to leave at that point.
In situations when the restaurant is busy, I think it would be beneficial to try and do something for the diner to ensure a smoother experience. Although our server did thank us for our patience and was very nice (Even though we said nothing) it wasn't really enough to make us feel better about our overall experience. When I used to work front of the house manager in NYC I usually offered my patrons something to make it up to them such as coffee or a dessert for their trouble.
It's a shame that things went the way they did last night. We were very disappointed with our experience."
Mozza is our go-to celebration restaurant. We are never disappointed. The quality and consistency is awesome and that is very important on a special night out. The staff is extremely accommodating to our special needs and we are able to really relax and enjoy the meal, the ambiance and the occasional familiar face wandering by.
Great service; we got to choose where to be seated and we asked for a slower service which the staff delivered with a smile. The food was delicious, well prepared and nicely presented. The hand stretched mozzarella was just superb. We also got to meet Nancy which made the visit even better. Thank you!
The food was fabulous and fun to share to experience lots of flavors. We ordered the chicken to share. If it takes an hour to cook, it would be nice if they informed you up front! Long wait for the main course but it was good.
Dinner and Pantages
My sister and I took my dad here for his birthday last weekend and I was really surprised at how terrible the service was. For such a high-end restaurant I expected otherwise. Our server didn’t greet us until about 15 minutes of us sitting. We had to constantly ask the bread boys and other people to help us as she was very inattentive. Everything took very long and we received no explanation of the menu items or recommendations. We ended up sharing three items and leaving because we were not happy with the experience. Overall, I’m really disappointed and thought it was a big waist of money. I’ve been to the pizzeria and had a fantastic experience, but not sure what happened here.
We love Mario Batali’s restaurants from Otto in Las Vegas to EATALY whether it’s in Chicago or NYC! We took my sister in law and her husband for a date night. The food & customer service at Osteria Mozza was outstanding. Love it!
We celebrated my husband’s birthday in Mozza and it was such a wonderful experience. It is definitely one of the best places I have ever eaten in LA. We will be back!
I wasn't sure what I was going to get. But I can say that I was pleased. I am tough nut when it comes to service, food, and menu knowledge. They delivered on all aspects of this visit. The barrel aged negorni was amazing, well crafted perfectly aged. The start of the meal was great, as well as the main event. We were celebrating a birthday, sadly we didn't get dessert. But there is always next time. This place is for the foodie in you. If you have non-foodie friends, find some and go with them. Because you'll miss out of you try to go it alone.
Delicious meal with great professional service. All in all a memorable evening and I look forward to returning.
Beautiful space and authentic Italian dining of the upmost quality. Highly professional staff and an encyclopedic wine list. Overall a superb dining experience.
Excellent food and exceptional service!
The bar tender gentleman with the beard was rude, while having a drink before dinner. It seems people are uncomfortable at the drink bar because of him.
Great antipasti, pastas, and main dishes. Grilled octopus is a must.
We had been looking forward to this reservation for sometime, as we had never been to the Osteria. We have been to the pizzeria many times. We ordered many things, but found that many of them were way too salty to eat. We had the burrata with bacon, which had this pickled escarole that the menu called marinated. It was horrible-the pickled flavor totally overpowered any other flavors including the bacon. The orecchiette with sausage and chard was so salty as to be inedible. The pappardelle with rabbit ragu was good but not great, and the Rock fish “chowder” was too salty as well. Our waitress was often nowhere to be found. I do not recommend this restaurant.
Outstanding in every respect
Very good food in a surprising, creative way. Menu was primarily in Italian. Needed to decipher it. Looks like they had a lot of regulars. People were lined up at 5pm for the opening.
Chef's table brought me here. It did not disappoint...
We were visiting LA and saw the Chef's Table episode about this restaurant and had to experience it. We had an incredible meal! The service staff was on task constantly refilling our water/wine glasses but also not rushing the meal. Our server was so helpful guiding us through the menu and orchestrating the timing of the courses. Our group of 4 always likes to share our dishes which was highly encouraged by our server-she in fact picked out selections which were ideal for sharing. Portion size was perfect. Our favorite item which was recommended by our server was the Octopus Salad! So tender and fresh! My only one small critique which may just be a personal preference was that the bread wasn't warm. Even room temperature the bread was delicious! I would look forward to another meal there
We made a reservation from Argentina as we want to know Nancy restaurant. Weee love it!! Incredible food! Service is super! A little noisy
In my opinion, not an authentic Italian restaurant. All hype.
The food was delicious, however the service was rushed and lacking, making it difficult for us to enjoy our meal. At one point three waiters stood behind my partner at the table watching me finish my last bite of one dish. It was very unnerving and I could see she was already holding our next course as it got cold. Before I had time to put down my fork from the last bite, they cleared and put down the lukewarm dish that they had been holding. We also received the cheque before we had time to finish dessert. The waitress did not communicate openly or make us feel welcome in any way.
Most over-priced wine list I have seen in ages. Nice list, but, wow, many more times markup than any similar restaurant that I can think of. And the Sommes are trained to pour so frequently that its hard to enjoy the wine knowing that they are selling so aggressively rather than just giving attentive service.
The food is good, but its not great. It needs recharging.
The food was excellent but at $250 for 2 people, you do pay for that excellence.
I actually think this place is totally overrated. The food is good, but not nearly worth the prices charged. Food took forever to come out and then was predictably cold. No explanation given at all. Skip it. This is an LA example of hype being better than quality.
We had a flawless meal with flawless service. Absolutely loved Mozza.
their online menu is a bit misleading - this place is pricey! four plates of cheeses and a moderately priced bottle of wine was $160. we made reservations after we saw the “online special” (mon-thursday) of cheese, primi, and dessert for $35. we were told once seated that the price was only good at the bar.... we had a party of seven. we opted to close our tab and dine elsewhere.
The best Italian restaurant I ever been!
