About Osteria Morini - New Jersey

Osteria Morini, first introduced in 2010 to New York’s Soho neighborhood, was conceived from Chef Michael White’s dream to bring the same soulful cuisine and convivial spirit of Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region to the United States. After making our original home in Soho, in downtown Manhattan we thought it was time to share the love with the Garden State. Chef Michael White and the Altamarea Group have always made a commitment to bring top quality food from New York to New Jersey. That commitment has been reaffirmed by bringing the highly acclaimed Soho restaurant, Osteria Morini, to Bernardsville, New Jersey.

The food was outstanding, some of the best we’ve had. The ingredients were fresh. Unfortunately, three dishes arrived cold and rather than reheat them as requested the kitchen remade them and it was over a half hour until everyone at the table had their food. We were told the delay was because the oven broke.

When the dishes finally came back out one had a melted piece of what appeared to be plastic in it.

The management apologized and removed those meals from the bill but unfortunately, it was too late to correct the errors at that point. Half of our party went home unfed.

We’ve been here several times before and loved it each time. This time was way way off. The waiter was awful - couldn’t recommend a pasta or choices for the charcuterie, told us they were out of the cocktail that we ordered that was on the menu - 10 minutes later the bartender brought it over??? And when questioned to be sure he had to run back to double check and make sure it was actually for our table? Every other time we’ve had great service and great food - this time the food was good but service and overall vibe (1/3 empty at 8pm on a Saturday night?) was not something I would choose to return for

Went to dinner with a friend who had a gift card she had received as a gift. The food was great. The wine was wonderful. The service from our waiter was terrible and put a dent in the evening. He was unhappy with the lack of help in the restaurant which he vocalized to us.
Definitely not the caliber of staff this restaurant should be employing.

We went two times in one week. The first time was this past Friday. The restaurant was very full. Our friends arrived before us, and were seated and had their drinks. When our server came over and took the drink order, we expected ours to arrive in a few minutes. NOPE. we waited and waited and the drinks were wrong. Again another long wait. That experience ruined the rest of the dinner. My appetite was gone. We decided to try again last night. Restaurant not nearly as crowded, but still the same slow service. Long wait for drinks, and the meal took forever to come to the table. I wanted the chicken but the restaurant didn’t have chicken last night. Settled for mixed grill and it was just okay. I will not go back. As Due Terre, this restaurant was great. Not anymore. Sorry for the bad review but I can’t think of anything nice to put down here.

I've been here three times now and each time was outstanding. Consistency is key with me and I know I can have the same dish prepared the same way and never be disappointed. Everything is good -- the buratta appetizer with figs & prosciutto is amazing, and we always get the Zuppa de Pesce -- but where they really excel is their pastas. Each one is prepared thoughtfully with the freshest ingredients and homemade pasta and they are better than anything I've ever had in the area. I also love the bustling open kitchen and general positive vibe. Go!

Acoustic problem has been greatly improved...could actually have a conversation at our table! The food has always been divine, and still is, thankfully, even after a long hiatus between visits.

We had a wonderful evening. The food was excellent and recommendations by the server were spot on. I had the roasted mushroom pasta and it was delicious, tasty and sophisticated. REally happy . Our friends had the Bronzino and said it was the best they have ever had, it can often be tasteless and plain. Very impressed, we will definitely go back again. It was even better than when we were there a year ago.

The food was very delicious. However, the prices were ridiculously high when the wait staff is in jeans and plaid flannel shirts. Expected somewhere a little fancier for what we were charged. Unfortunately will not be back.

The food is really delicious (Garganelli pasta is our favorite, and the Monday night pasta special for $10 can't be beat). Still, the service is usually terrible. We've had a few instances where it was good, but that seems to be waiter specific. They did a better job this time of filling our water glasses (still can't understand why they don't give bigger glasses), but they forgot our bread. We saw a table next to us get a second basket, so we wondered if they got our bread by mistake? We even asked the waiter for break, but they never brought it out. This seems par for the course (on a previous night, they brought the bread as we were getting ready to pay - really?). I don't understand how the service is so terrible, but the food is so delicious. It's worth it, but it's annoying, too.

The food, the service, the atmosphere - lovely. Brought mom here for her birthday dinner and she was enamored with the homemade Burrata and the Capaletti pasta dish. Do not skip dessert, the Budino and the gelato were a fantastic addition to our meals!

Sadly a disappointment. Food and ambiance was a shade of it's former life as Due Terra. No change in sound lever, perhaps worst. It's very noisy and could not hold a reasonable conversation. Had planned on bringing another couple but decided to check it out first. A wise decision.

The food has become dull and lacking the creativity of old. Waiter staff was competent but seemed rushed and distracted. It was a Friday and busy, so perhaps they were just at their limit.

The place seemed busy and I can only hope that carries through for the entire week, but for me, with so many good restaurants around what's the point?

It was $10 pasta night (after 7pm)! Great value for excellent pasta dishes. Not sure how long that will go on for. Thursday is bring your own wine night I think, which save a bundle. The summary is this is a wonderful spot with smiling service and great food that won't break the bank on some nights. You can go crazy with high priced wines if you want though. Noise will pick up to a festive active level, which some people may like.

We spilled a full drink and even though they were quite busy, they brought a replacement with a lid for the glass that made it look like a sippy cup. Hilarious! If that is a vibe you are comfortable with, enjoy! We did.

If you come on a discount night, don't forget to tip as though the meal was at full price! Just my humble opinion.

We always enjoy the appetizers and the fresh pasta. My wife lives the Gnocchi, thinks it is one of the best around; I had the fresh made pasta with the sausage sauce.
The service was fantastic and super friendly.
One of the best Italian Restaurants around here.

My husband and I went for dinner here on a Saturday night. We were seated immediately (with reservation). The entire meal was great. We started with three selections from the "battilardo" (cheese and meats) and were pleasantly surprised at the ample amount of each item that was provided. The bread they brought to the table was delicious (can't just eat one piece!). For entrees, my husband had the grigliata mista (mixed grill), which consisted of small portions of four different types of meat and some grilled veggies. All were nicely prepared and tasty. I had the spaghetti alla chitarra-- al dente pasta topped off with perfectly cooked shrimp and lobster with a pomodoro sauce. I am not usually a spaghetti person but had to go for this dish. For dessert, we split the bomboloni ricotta doughnuts with caramel sauce. These were amazingly moist and fluffy and the sauce was the perfect finish. I spotted at least three other tables getting an order within 10 minutes of us ordering so they must be a fan favorite! Overall, we greatly enjoyed the laid back ambience and delicious food.

Food was good, service was inept. Not only was the markup on the wine steep, but the red wine was in bad condition and we could not drink it. Although I would return for the food, this is not at the top of my list. For all of the accolades this restaurant receives there are much better "neighborhood" restaurants in the area.

I first came here with my husband. The ambiance was not at all "romantic date night" - it's fairly bustling, crowded, bright, and many of the tables are set in the middle of the room - but the food made up for it. For the number of Italian restaurants in central NJ, there are surprisingly few amazing, authentic places, and now we've found one.

This past weekend I took my sister here. She spent several years living in Bologna and has a VERY high bar for Italian food. Anything on a menu that says "bolognese" or "ragu" gets serious side-eye, because every restaurant gets it wrong. So I was a little worried to take her to an Italian restaurant that I thought was good! But she took one look at the menu and was very impressed. When the food arrived, it did not disappoint: everything was spot-on and we ate way too much. They served a white bean puree with the table bread, and I could have made a whole meal of just that.

The service was a little disappointing. Very friendly and knowledgeable, but sporadic and uneven. For an upscale restaurant serving excellent food at these prices, I'd hope for similarly upscale service. However, if you aren't in a rush and don't mind flagging down a server a few times because they haven't stopped by in a while, the food will make up for it.

A couple other notes. Reading the menu, you might assume this is a schmancy, quiet, on-your-best-behavior type of place. Quite the opposite: like I mentioned, it's pretty casual, bustling, just shy of noisy. Appropriate for *well-behaved* children, business meetings, etc. Lastly, the menu is largely in Italian and includes many ingredients I had to look up (I'm a very picky eater so I like to know more or less what's going to be on my plate). I enjoy that, because that's how you learn, but be prepared to look stuff up on your phone, or ask a lot of questions about the menu.

I wish I could give this restaurant 5 stars overall. Our food was absolutely outstanding. I've dreamt about the polpettine appetizer we had, along with every single pasta dish! Every dish we ordered, from the appetizers to dessert, was delicious. We shared all of our items, allowing us to try many different things from the menu. However, our service was absolutely terrible. We constantly had to ask our waiter or other waiters for water refills, additional silverware, plates, etc. The busboy continually tried to clear our table while we still had a lot of food left to eat. It's a shame because it seemed as if other tables were getting very attentive service. The restaurant wasn't too crowded, and we had a 6pm reservation, so we were by no means holding anyone from either ending their shift or not being seated for a table. The food and wine we did have was excellent enough to warrant a return trip. Hopefully the service will not be as lacking.
