About Osteria La Spiga

Since 1998, la Spiga has been renowned for its authentic, northern Italian cuisine -- a gastronomic tribute to Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. La Spiga's chef and co-founder, Sabrina Tinsley, prepares all items from scratch, using whole foods and house-made stocks. You will never find artificial or chemical food enhancers in our kitchen…ever. What you will find is the highest quality olive oil, delectable cheeses and cured meats, seasonal vegetables, flavorful sauces, handmade pastas and more. We believe in local, organic, and sustainable, and our meats are hormone and antibiotic free. We also offer several vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free items to those with dietary restrictions.

You'll love our atmosphere as much as the food! We are located in the artfully renovated Piston & Ring building; its rustic-elegant design is warm enough for family, yet cool enough for a date. We hope you'll join us soon for a tantalizing taste of Italy in our warm, inviting space.

When I arrived, they said I didn't have a reservation and made negative comments about Open Table in front of me. They said that the reservation did not come through. I stated that I was meeting a friend. I showed them the email with my reservation confirmation. They were very nice, however, and said they would find me a table. They seated me and since my friend had not appeared, I called her. She was already seated in the far corner of the room. She had given my name and apparently my reservation showed up then. Two things I noticed: my friend who is older and another older couple were seated in the far corner. I found that to be sort of a bias against having older people visible in the restaurant. My friend had asked to be seated at a table rather than the far corner with the bench which was uncomfortable. She was told 'no' in a very abrupt, inpolite manner.
I thought the food was delicious. But I was unimpressed with my initial impression - sort of chaotic and negative.

One diner was happy with the gluten-free options. One diner had the seafood pasta but thought the seafood offering was a little paltry. One diner enjoyed the soup of the day and the calamari but found the sauce too spicy. It would have been nice to tone it down with yogurt or provide a different sauce. The other dishes were different from traditional versions, and the diners found them successful. The wines were delicious and not exorbitantly priced.

We came in for lunch and had the mixed greens & pear salad, which was covered severely with vinaigrette making it far too acidic, and the lasagna Verdi which was heavily overcooked causing the noodles to be overly soft and drying out the edges. The food left us thoroughly dissatisfied. The server was a bit impatient and halting, and didn't convey a feeling she was there so we could have an enjoyable meal. Not recommended.

First time visiting Osteria La Spiga on Capitol HIll. The staff was personable and accommodating. We were offered a table in an area that seemed a bit chilly and immediately the hostess recognized we were hesitant and she offered us a nice booth location. The food was amazing, from the appetizers to the main course. Wines were reasonably priced. Our server was friendly and gave us the perfect amount of attention. I would recommend this restaurant and our group of four will be back for sure. Thank you!

Great food, attentive yet unobtrusive service. Amazing Italian wine list, if a wee pricey. On the other hand, food prices were very good for a Seattle restaurant. Will go back soon.

Our visit to Osteria La Spiga during Seattle Restaurant week was disappointing. The food was rather boring. We had reserved a table for 5 people many days prior to the event and were seated in a booth with one person at the head of the table. It was not cozy and we felt squeezed together. The answer of the host to our request to get a bigger table was that the other guests sitting at the big tables had also made a reservation - like us. And she did not even make an effort to seat us at one of the still available bigger tables in the nicer area of the restaurant near the window. Then the bill was totally messed up and had to be corrected. Not fun.

Aside from the wait for a table (~30 min. even though we had reservations), the food was excellent and our server was very personable. Great opportunity to try this place during Restaurant Week and share the various plates so we could taste more of the menu.

I had lunch with my mom here and it was a fine experience. They were doing the dine out for Seattle so we weren't able to order from the regular menu. It is a lovely albeit simple three-course meal. The noise level for lunch was very low which is great for my mom as she has sensitive ears but I think that if you were going at night it would get quite loud. The overall place is pretty cool as it's in some sort of multi shop space. I definitely want to come back and check out the other shop sometime.

Food was lovely but the service was lacking. We were seated for 15 minutes before anyone came to the table, and the waiter up-sold us wine after we placed our initial orders--saying "you'll like this better" in a way that felt unwelcome given we knew what wines we wanted and were not asking his opinion. He also came over to clear our dishes when I was still finishing my entree, and pulled the plate from me as I rushed to finish my last few bites. For a nice restaurant, I was really disappointed in the service.

Service was slow, which would not have been a problem if we had just had wine. We were a group of 8 so happy to talk and were not in a hurry at all but we sat for a long while before having a glass of wine. Two of the wines we chose from the list the restaurant did not have. The wine list was all Italian, nothing local and the server was unfamiliar with the wines. Restaurant could consider hiring a sommelier. Food was excellent. Ambiance was beautiful.

First visit. Parking is bad but was lucky and found a space across the street. Greeted by friendly employees and seated right away since we were early for lunch. IT was SRW. I had the large salad which was good. Then, my friend and I split the pasta with truffle oil and pasta with bolognese sauce. Both were great but I'd say the one with the truffle oil was better. Dessert of tiramisu was great. Waitress new her menu really well!

We celebrated my daughters 22nd birthday. She chose this restaurant for her birthday as she has dined here before. She raved about the lasagna and my husband joined her in ordering their lasagna verde. I chose a different pasta dish with their well balanced homemade ragu, while a close friend of our daughter ordered the gnocchi--we were al pleased with our entrees and shared amongst one another. The service was very good and were also pleased with their wine suggestion--a bottle of chianti. Dessert was a must for this occasion and the tiramisu was a contender for the best we have had--while my husband ordered the gelato...well made. Definitely a place to return to in the future when visiting our daughter.

Food was excellent. I had the filet seasoned perfectly accompanied by some creamy garlic mash and sautéed spinach. I don't even like spinach but that shiz was good. Girl had the tagliatelle with truffle butter sauce. Pasta was cooked perfect. Perfect portion not to big like some places do it. Wines were great. Wide selection. Mix drinks were great as well. 2 drinks a piece two appetizers oh the meats are great and salad. Two entrees for under 140$ great find. We'll be back next time we visit.

We had a big group, so I know that is always challenging. We ordered appetizes to share, and they were wonderful, then we moved on to pastas to share, and while they were all good, most of them came out cool - not hot - as if they were sitting for a while before they were served. We ordered more plates after that to share, and everything was good.

I love fresh, handmade pasta, but it really does need to be served hot - even though we ordered at least two of everything, the portions were a bit small.

I have been coming to this restaurant since they opened their first location, and I always enjoy it. I guess group dining can be a challenge on a busy night.

I always love the food, service and ambience at La Spiga. The Fritto Misto was lightly fried with fresh and sweet seafood. The La Panzella salad a tangy blend of fresh flavors. The Spaghetti Neri, made with cuttlefish ink, was amazing. Be sure to take your time to savor the meals here. Not a place to rush.

Worst service I have experienced at a restaurant since I can remember. Main course took 75 minutes to come despite multiple promises it would be ready in 5 mins. Large group beside us ordered after us and was served wat before us. Manager had the audacity to drop by and "apologize" for about 30 seconds and said he would "make it right". The bill came and only one appetizer was comped. We asked to talk with the manager but server said he was too busy to talk with us. We will never go back and will recommend others the same. Shame as previously we had good experience at this place. Lots of other restaurants that care about service and making it right when they screw up.

I live within walking distance to Osteria La Spiga, but I'd drive there if I weren't so close already. The food is consistently great, with interesting specials. There is a marvelous back dining room with high exposed wood ceiling, a lovely courtyard patio for warm evenings, and a space up front where we sat last night next to a large open window to enjoy the street scene.
The wait staff at Osteria La Spiga is extraordinarily great: always friendly, perceptive and helpful.
