About Osteria La Spiga
Since 1998, la Spiga has been renowned for its authentic, northern Italian cuisine -- a gastronomic tribute to Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. La Spiga's chef and co-founder, Sabrina Tinsley, prepares all items from scratch, using whole foods and house-made stocks. You will never find artificial or chemical food enhancers in our kitchen…ever. What you will find is the highest quality olive oil, delectable cheeses and cured meats, seasonal vegetables, flavorful sauces, handmade pastas and more. We believe in local, organic, and sustainable, and our meats are hormone and antibiotic free. We also offer several vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free items to those with dietary restrictions.
You'll love our atmosphere as much as the food! We are located in the artfully renovated Piston & Ring building; its rustic-elegant design is warm enough for family, yet cool enough for a date. We hope you'll join us soon for a tantalizing taste of Italy in our warm, inviting space.

Osteria La Spiga Ratings and Reviews
I was really hoping we would have a great experience here, but we did not. It took nearly 30 minutes for the waitress to even take our order, then more than another half hour to get our food. No one was really impressed with what they received, and then we had to practically jump up and down to flag down our waitress to get the bill.
If you're short staffed, it would have been nice to know at the beginning of our dining experience so we could mentally prepare ourselves to be there for over 2 hours (which was not a part of our plans that evening.)
La Spiga is the best restaurant on Capitol Hill. Remarkably consistent. I recommend it without hesitation. The only variables are seating (on the patio, in the window, in the bar, upstairs). Any active La Spiga patron will have a view.
This past Saturday, we were a four seated in the bar in a booth (at our request). Great for conversation. Our service was thoughtful and impeccable. And the food--which ranged widely over the menu--was perfect.
La Spiga is Capitol Hill's hidden treasure.
This is a hard review to write. I highly recommend La Spiga for dinners. Excellent food, great wines, superior attentive waitstaff. quiet and intimate dining. HOWEVER, my experience at lunch was the opposite. The least attentive staff, who forgot to even ask about drinks, music which was blaring, which to their credit, they turned down, a server who didn't want to wait til my friend arrived to talk about the specials, the other server who kept forgetting parts of the order and then never gave them to the right person. The food wasn't bad, the prices weren't bad, but the lack of hospitality and professional edge made it all less appetizing. But, I was there for the company of my friend who had just lost a loved one, and that was most important. I just wish La Spiga staff had made it more memorable in a positive way.
They were obviously having a bad night, but my review is similar to others. Beautiful space to be sure. Lovely tables in the open air in the front that were vacant. But we were seated by ourselves in a fairly deserted and dark area in the back. Left to sit alone for about 15 minutes with no attention (yes, i turned on my phone timer) we finally just got up and left. Oh well. Again, other similar reviews, so they are clearly having staffing issues. Very unfortunate.
Very slow, poor service. There was no one at the host stand for almost 10 mins. The table was not set up. Then we were left for a long time and no drink menu provided despite a request. The kitchen had to ring the bell 8 times and waitstaff did not come so the kitchen had to serve. This was a large (9 ppl) group, therefore missed opportunity for this restaurant.
Our server, Rhiannon, was AMAZING. My 3 girlfriends and I bonded with her through the course of our meal. By the time dessert came we wanted her to be our best friend. She gave great recommendations in a very authentic way. We loved that the head chef and a lot of the staff were women. Everyone was attentive and helpful. The food was amazing!
We are very particular about Italian food and are often disappointed. Not this time. There were five of us and each of us were thrilled with our choices. The wait staff was efficient, helpful and friendly.
One minor quibble. The restaurant allows a gentleman to walk around selling flowers. I never like this at a restaurant and in this case, a simple shake of the head "no" was not enough to discourage him. He tried several times and was way too pushy. the restaurant should discontinue this practice.
Ignoring this one annoyance, it was a great experience. We will be back!
We went to Osteria La Spiga for a 12-person engagement celebration while visiting Seattle. Pietro helped us set up a multi-course family-style meal with several choices of appetizers, pastas and meat entrees. They had customized menus waiting for us. All of the dishes were absolutely delicious, and we topped it off with one of their custom almond cakes, which was incredible. The service was fantastic...they picked excellent wines and paced everything perfectly. The restaurant has excellent ambience and is in a really fun neighborhood. We can't wait to go back. Can't recommend it enough.
We enjoyed our meal and would recommend La Siga to others. Surprisingly the high point of the meal was the simple mixed salad. Both my wife and I commented on it being a great mix of very fresh greens and perfectly dressed to compliment salad. Both the pasta my wife had and the veal I had were quite tasty. That being said, the frito mixto tasted like a bunch of non-descript fried stuff. It's more what I would expect from Ivar's. And my other less than stellar experience was the "house" flatbread. It looked and tasted like the worst pita one would buy at Safeway. It was dry, tasteless and as a paid for bread course, did not come with anything to dip like oil or even butter.
Nice, modern décor with great food. We happened to get there early for a 6:30 pm reservation on a Saturday night and were immediately informed that the happy hour menu was good for another 10 minutes! We ordered several delicious dishes off the happy hour menu and were very happy!
One of our favorite places in town. Have eaten there many times - never disappointed. This time with my sister's family - 7 people, with two of them teens. Everyone was happy. The tagliatelle with truffle butter is one of the great pasta dishes. Gnocchi in pomodoro is special as well. Excellent and thoughtful wine list.
I have eaten at La Spiga multiple times and the food and service has never been anything but great.
My last visit was my first with my new son and the staff was extremely accommodating. Several members also came by on multiple occasions to let us know that they appreciated us bringing in the new baby.
I was there for a long business lunch. We sat right by the street. Open air. It was warm and cozy. Sun was shining. Lunch with salad and rigatoni. Portions were perfect as was the food and wine. Service was excellent, not intrusive but there when needed. All in all a perfect day.
Everything we had was consistently well seasoned and well prepared - we traded pasta plates around the table and coveted the Truffle Pasta and the Beet Ravioli for sure. The crostini with beef tips and pate was awesome. We shared two between the 4 of us, but everyone wanted more. Oh, did I mention the soup? It was the soup of the day with beans and chard and yumminess. The flavors were nuanced and layered.
Wine list was good, with lots of wines by the glass to choose from. We started with martinis and mojitos which were tasty. Our service was excellent. Would definitely come back for good Italian cuisine in a friendly and warm atmosphere.
