About Osteria La Spiga

Since 1998, la Spiga has been renowned for its authentic, northern Italian cuisine -- a gastronomic tribute to Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. La Spiga's chef and co-founder, Sabrina Tinsley, prepares all items from scratch, using whole foods and house-made stocks. You will never find artificial or chemical food enhancers in our kitchen…ever. What you will find is the highest quality olive oil, delectable cheeses and cured meats, seasonal vegetables, flavorful sauces, handmade pastas and more. We believe in local, organic, and sustainable, and our meats are hormone and antibiotic free. We also offer several vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free items to those with dietary restrictions.

You'll love our atmosphere as much as the food! We are located in the artfully renovated Piston & Ring building; its rustic-elegant design is warm enough for family, yet cool enough for a date. We hope you'll join us soon for a tantalizing taste of Italy in our warm, inviting space.

Food was okay but service was not good. Had to ask to get water at least 3x. Pasta was undercooked and meat was just okay. Overall, pretty disappointing for the cost.

Our reservation was at 6 PM. We each ordered a glass of wine. The pour for a $16-$18 glass was about 4 ounces, not worth it. Our hostess had ordered a salad with dressing on the side for her entree. At this point, the restaurant started to fill up and the servers became very busy; there was a large party in the balcony. When the meal came, the hostess's salad was dressed. She sent it back. The other 2 meals were already served. The steak was very good, the lasagna was lukewarm and the salad took a very long time to come undressed. All in all, the experience was less than optimal. They did comp the salad but the waitstaff and the kitchen couldn't handle the crowd.

A warm and cozy spot on a cold night. We would love to come back in summer and sit on outside back patio tables. Waiter was great and the lasagna verdi, fritto misto, and fried cauliflower were excellent. Crispy polenta with duck was good.

Below average food. Mostly poorly executed. Sprawling (in a bad way) wine list, incorrect vintages. I felt unwell a couple hours after the meal. The cost does not match the product. Far better Italian options in the area. A shame, because the space and staff are nice.

I really want to like this place. We used to go there years ago and repeatedly had very, very bad service. So we just gave up on it. But recently some friends suggested we go there, so we thought "what the heck, we'll give it another try".

Food was good, not great. The server was pleasant, but was very new and seemed very poorly trained. He didn't know how to enter the bill on the point-of-sale machine and we waited for a long time before we were able to leave for our theater engagement.

I wish I could say I would go back again, but I likely won't.

The food at La Spiga never disappoints and often surprises. You get some excellent dishes that are not the standard fare of Italian restaurants, in which the cuisine from Emilia-Romagna is underexposed. The piadina is always fresh, the gnocco, a sort of Italian puffy frybread, is fabulous and never seen before, the house-made pasta is excellent, cooked al dente just right, and never gets old. The "fried gnocco" appetizer was very good value, highly recommended. Tagliolini with duck were said to be outstanding and looked like a very generous portion. Tagliatelle al tartufo were very good, nice and simple.
Service this time around was a bit, how to say it, reluctant. Our server pretty much vanished after the appetizer. Somebody else brought the main dishes, and, eventually, when it was time for the check, after a long wait I had to get help from the worker who was clearing tables. This is one point where many even decent restaurants fail, and it can leave a sour taste about the whole experience. I've never seen it at La Spiga before and hope it doesn't happen again.

I was very impressed with both the superb quality of the food and the matching service, which was prompt, attentive and friendly, without being intrusive. I have long felt that Seattle restaurants often have very high-quality cuisine, but without the service to match. By contrast, La Spiga has both in spades! On top of that, add that it offers live piano music in the evening (or at least on the evening we attended), which adds ambiance without raising the noise volume to an uncomfortable level. It was very easy to converse with my dining companion without feeling overwhelmed by the ambient noise and the music.

We could see our table was available as it was right in front of us, but were told we couldn't sit there yet. It was clean and set! The hostess wasn't able to tell us why we couldn't sit there!!

The service was good otherwise, and our pasta was tasty. The appetizers were underwhelming. With so many great Italian options in Seattle, I think La Spiga needs to step up it's game.

When I arrived, they said I didn't have a reservation and made negative comments about Open Table in front of me. They said that the reservation did not come through. I stated that I was meeting a friend. I showed them the email with my reservation confirmation. They were very nice, however, and said they would find me a table. They seated me and since my friend had not appeared, I called her. She was already seated in the far corner of the room. She had given my name and apparently my reservation showed up then. Two things I noticed: my friend who is older and another older couple were seated in the far corner. I found that to be sort of a bias against having older people visible in the restaurant. My friend had asked to be seated at a table rather than the far corner with the bench which was uncomfortable. She was told 'no' in a very abrupt, inpolite manner.
I thought the food was delicious. But I was unimpressed with my initial impression - sort of chaotic and negative.

One diner was happy with the gluten-free options. One diner had the seafood pasta but thought the seafood offering was a little paltry. One diner enjoyed the soup of the day and the calamari but found the sauce too spicy. It would have been nice to tone it down with yogurt or provide a different sauce. The other dishes were different from traditional versions, and the diners found them successful. The wines were delicious and not exorbitantly priced.

We came in for lunch and had the mixed greens & pear salad, which was covered severely with vinaigrette making it far too acidic, and the lasagna Verdi which was heavily overcooked causing the noodles to be overly soft and drying out the edges. The food left us thoroughly dissatisfied. The server was a bit impatient and halting, and didn't convey a feeling she was there so we could have an enjoyable meal. Not recommended.

First time visiting Osteria La Spiga on Capitol HIll. The staff was personable and accommodating. We were offered a table in an area that seemed a bit chilly and immediately the hostess recognized we were hesitant and she offered us a nice booth location. The food was amazing, from the appetizers to the main course. Wines were reasonably priced. Our server was friendly and gave us the perfect amount of attention. I would recommend this restaurant and our group of four will be back for sure. Thank you!

Our visit to Osteria La Spiga during Seattle Restaurant week was disappointing. The food was rather boring. We had reserved a table for 5 people many days prior to the event and were seated in a booth with one person at the head of the table. It was not cozy and we felt squeezed together. The answer of the host to our request to get a bigger table was that the other guests sitting at the big tables had also made a reservation - like us. And she did not even make an effort to seat us at one of the still available bigger tables in the nicer area of the restaurant near the window. Then the bill was totally messed up and had to be corrected. Not fun.

Aside from the wait for a table (~30 min. even though we had reservations), the food was excellent and our server was very personable. Great opportunity to try this place during Restaurant Week and share the various plates so we could taste more of the menu.

I had lunch with my mom here and it was a fine experience. They were doing the dine out for Seattle so we weren't able to order from the regular menu. It is a lovely albeit simple three-course meal. The noise level for lunch was very low which is great for my mom as she has sensitive ears but I think that if you were going at night it would get quite loud. The overall place is pretty cool as it's in some sort of multi shop space. I definitely want to come back and check out the other shop sometime.

Food was lovely but the service was lacking. We were seated for 15 minutes before anyone came to the table, and the waiter up-sold us wine after we placed our initial orders--saying "you'll like this better" in a way that felt unwelcome given we knew what wines we wanted and were not asking his opinion. He also came over to clear our dishes when I was still finishing my entree, and pulled the plate from me as I rushed to finish my last few bites. For a nice restaurant, I was really disappointed in the service.

Service was slow, which would not have been a problem if we had just had wine. We were a group of 8 so happy to talk and were not in a hurry at all but we sat for a long while before having a glass of wine. Two of the wines we chose from the list the restaurant did not have. The wine list was all Italian, nothing local and the server was unfamiliar with the wines. Restaurant could consider hiring a sommelier. Food was excellent. Ambiance was beautiful.

First visit. Parking is bad but was lucky and found a space across the street. Greeted by friendly employees and seated right away since we were early for lunch. IT was SRW. I had the large salad which was good. Then, my friend and I split the pasta with truffle oil and pasta with bolognese sauce. Both were great but I'd say the one with the truffle oil was better. Dessert of tiramisu was great. Waitress new her menu really well!

We celebrated my daughters 22nd birthday. She chose this restaurant for her birthday as she has dined here before. She raved about the lasagna and my husband joined her in ordering their lasagna verde. I chose a different pasta dish with their well balanced homemade ragu, while a close friend of our daughter ordered the gnocchi--we were al pleased with our entrees and shared amongst one another. The service was very good and were also pleased with their wine suggestion--a bottle of chianti. Dessert was a must for this occasion and the tiramisu was a contender for the best we have had--while my husband ordered the gelato...well made. Definitely a place to return to in the future when visiting our daughter.
