Osteria la Buca is located on Melrose Ave, two blocks East of Paramount Studios on the edge of Hollywood. We celebrate the gift that is Southern California produce and grass roots Italian cooking. We have a focused list of Italian and California wines and offer a full bar specializing in boutique spirits from around the world. All of our pastas are prepared on premise daily. We represent handmade, local and farm fresh traditions. We welcome all to gather around our tables.

This is by far my fave Italian restaurant to go to. I bring all out of town guests here and they fall in love. The Cacio Pepe spaghetti is to DIE for. I've been all over the world and it is one of the better versions I have had. I hope it never leaves the menu.
Osteria la Bucca was incredible. I can't wait to go back (and I was just there this past Saturday), already trying to plan my next meal there! We had the brussel sprouts and meatballs to start, split between 3 people. I would rate both of those starter dishes 10/10. Had their bolognese with gluten free penne pasta for my main course - which I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who is gluten free. The two other people I dined with had the bolognese (with regular pappardelle pasta) and the classic pizza with sausage added - they both thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well! Not a bite was left on any of our plates. For dessert we got both the tiramisu and the chocolate mousse. The chocolate mousse is custard based, and is one of the best desserts I have ever had (not an exaggeration). Its almost like your eating a decadent brownie batter.
The drinks and food were amazing! My husband had the bolognese (delicious) and I had the carbonara (so so so so so good!) The only complaint was that we wanted to space our dinner out, and take our time which we mentioned to our waiter, (who was very sweet and attentive.) But he suggested we order as the dishes take 15 minutes or so, and the Friday night dinner rush was just beginning. So we felt pressured to order, and of course they came faster than that, so it did feel rushed and I wish we would have pushed him to hold on making the dishes. But I would absolutely go back, and order an appetizer, a bottle of wine and obviously more pasta.
Excellent food. Excellent value. We enjoyed every dish we ordered - house-made ricotta with caramelized agave and rosemary (incredible), steak tartare, bolognese, carbonara, broccolini, cauliflower. Enjoyed the Latin-infused spin on the cocktails. It had been years since I had been here, and I'm looking forward to frequenting it from now on to get my homemade pasta fix. Hard to find a reasonably priced Italian restaurant in L.A. doing pastas of this caliber and happy this restaurant is still doing well.
Overall great experience and good food! I have been wanting to come to Osteria La Buca for some time now and the wait was well worth it. Casual dining spot good for a date night or dinner with friends. What I loved about the menu was the variety of entrees and pastas. Our server was well informed and knew the menu well to be able to provide appropriate recommendations. We are bound for a return in the near future.
The food was generally excellent. The daily house-made bread and pizza crust make everything special. Only the angel hair pasta dish was weak, just too cheesy and heavy, and got very stiff in 2 minutes. The music is way too loud which makes everyone talk louder adding to the high volume. What's with the loud volume?
Went to Osteria la Buca for my birthday. They gave us the private room since I noted the special occasion on the Open Table reservation (don't skip that part!). The food was absolutely incredible. Our server was super friendly and the atmosphere was perfect for the occasion. Can't wait to go back!
We came here for my mother-in-law's birthday and it was a great time! Our waitress was friendly and recommended an amazing bottle of wine to pair with our meal. The housemade ricotta with caramelized agave was insanely delicious - didn't know something so light could be so creamy and full of flavor! The steak tartare crostini was good but missing on the flavor a little. The pasta dishes were all stellar and we definitely would go back for those! Flavor, texture, and presentation were solid and they did not disappoint. Overall, a highly recommend for a cozy, neighborhood spot for a date, small group, or just when you want amazing pasta.
Great service, consistent food after coming here for years. Appreciate they’ve kept some greatest hits on the menu while it still evolves.
Faves? Cacio pepe, brussel sprouts, octopus.
This is a great neighborhood joint. Not any mind blowing culinary odyssey.
Good food, but there’s a catch
The major problem with Osteria La Buca isn’t the food, it’s everything else. The quirks are everywhere. Let’s start with the bottom of the menu, which has more disclosures than a legal document. You have to ask for water because the restaurant is conserving? You may not be able to get more bread because the restaurant may not have made enough? I thought, ok, no problem, surely a small basket of bread would suffice for two people right? Just then, the waitress (who was very cold) dropped off a single slice of bread to be split between two people.
We ordered the burrata, which for $17 consisted of 3-4 slices of American prosciutto and an amount of cheese slightly larger than a golf ball. Good flavor, but very over priced and under portioned.
A short time later, our pasta dishes came, both were good, but oddly priced and portioned. The bolognese at $19 was good sized, but the cacio pepe for $9 was a bit smaller and frankly, underpriced.
The dessert of chocolate zebbaone was very good and the after dinner drink (that was significantly under poured and overpriced) put an exclamation point on what was a frustrating meal. In my opinion, the most important thing a restaurant can do is make its guests feel welcome and at ease. Despite the quality of the food, Osteria fails in this regard. If you’re looking for a low stress dining experience, it’s best to look elsewhere.

Food was delicious as always. The meatballs are excellent and so were the pizza and cocktails. Service was a little disappointing. Asked for lemon and was served lime, had to ask for bread, asked the hostess on arrival to bring tiramisu and candle for birthday boy at the end of dinner and was brought bill instead...
It was okay. The pasta good. The sauce could have been a bit more flavorful the pasta is the kicker. We also had the bass and it was cooked to perfection. The eggplant was a nice touch.
Over good place, decent prices, and good staff. Respectfully, overhyped to be on those “best of” listings.
Loved the food, the burrata, the pappardelle and steak tartar were incredibly delicious. The pasta is fresh made and finally we found a real homemade bolognese sauce. The desserts were terrific too. For our own taste the music was too loud, it’s the only thing we found that could be better.
I took my boyfriend out for his birthday this past weekend before heading to see St. Vincent at Paramount studios. I picked it because it was close enough to walk to, but also had had dinner here before. I knew it would be delicious food, but also a bit more special than a normal spot we go to regularly. He thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and selection of food. And we had a tasty meal. We ordered dessert, and I completely forgot that on the Open Table reservation request, I mentioned it was his birthday. They put a candle on the dessert, which was a really nice little treat and note that they acknowledged my message in the reservation. Definitely a special place, and I loved how it has a very casual environment around it, but intimate and cozy too. My ideal place.
