Risotto of the Day
Across the street from the old Ditka’s location on Chestnut, is a hidden gem of Italian culinary cuisine. The menu at Osteria is full of authentic and unique tasting dishes that are fresh and sure to please the palate. Portions are LARGE, presented well and will leave you wanting to come back for more.
The server didn't offer tap water and offered flat or sparkling water only. Didn't say it cost money....ended up paying $30 for water. The filet came out overcooked, took a long time to remake. It started raining outside and no one knew how to close to the outside seating plastic wall curtains. Homemade bread was eh. My scallop dish was like $34 and they cut up the scallops?? And it was maybe 2 or 3 small scallops max. The wine options are all so expensive. Like $54 was cheapest pino. Dessert was good but $12 for a super small portion. The bathroom is janky and had waterer down soap. Not somewhere I'd recommend or go back to unfortunately. Went for my husband's 30th birthday so we were very disappointed. 20% gratuity auto added to groups of 5 or more so we had no say in tip, when service was not ideal. Our small group of 5 spent $517. Over $100 per person...
They did not honor our open table reservation. The staff was not too careful with covid masking. We have been here many times before and live nearby but will not be back.
We had to wait for forty minutes for our reservation which was disconcerting.
Once we got seated the food was incredible.
This was my second visit in the last month, and the staff remembered me. Not only that, my fabulous server George recalled my favorite wine! The meal was delectable and the service was fantastic. I’ll be back!!
The service was terrible, I don't recommend. The food was OK however. The menu was fairly limited, mostly pasta.
We put in our reservation that it was our Anniversary dinner but we got no attention on that. So what we wanted for a romantic 7th year Anniversary dinner we did not get unfortunately.
The food was good but the service seemed spotty because they were busy.
Awesome food, fantastic drinks and service. We will go back for sure!
Tried five different pastas— all were outstanding! My favorite was the crab ravioli. Great ambiance and service, too.
Paparadelle sauce was absolutely tasteless and the duck confit that was part of the dish and sauce ws meager at best. Lasagna was mostky salty--not much else.
Prices are high for mediocre Italian food
Great quiet dinner. Complimentary small sparkling wine for our celebration!
Our favorite restaurant in Chicago. You wouldn’t know it walking in, but this is the best Italian spot in the city.
Food was absolutely delicious; ambiance was nice for a Saturday night! Great old Gold Coast vibe. Very quaint and unexpected experience. Both king crab ravioli and seafood frutti de mare were delicious. The special passionfruit cheesecake was light and just right! Will definitely come back.
This was our first time at this restaurant. The menu looks great and we would go again and try more items. We enjoyed the pasta dishes and the meatballs were very good. The bread with tomato topping was excellent. We were not crazy about the gazpacho.
The caccio e pepe was one of the best I've had! We also had the special lobster risotto - rich and wonderful! Our server recommended wines for each of our dishes and they were spot on. Will definitely be back!
Me and my boyfriend both ordered the cacio e pepe, and it was just spaghetti with olive oil and pepper. It was not good.
Had a reservation for outdoor table at 8:15 because that was the earliest reservation I could get outside. Wanted to sit outside because I have one unvaccinated child who is not old enough to get vaccine. When we arrived, table was not ready. Was told to wait 15 minutes. Came back 15 minutes later and table still not ready and no sign of anyone getting up from their table. Two kids really hungry. Only 3 tables were sat inside so I agreed to a corner table inside if no one was sat next to us. Waitress said no problem because it was getting late. 10 minutes later, a table was sat right behind ours - within 6 feet of our table. I asked to be moved. They moved us but we were still 6 feet from the bar. So frustrated. At 9:15 PM, there still wasn’t an outdoor table. Food was pretty good but overall experience was not.
Service was very quick but the price for a mix drink was $20. Very over priced!
We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our evening here. The food was excellent, creative and prepared perfectly.
We have always liked the restaurant, but not their wine list and always bring our own and gladly pay the corkage fee. Theirs was always high at $30/bottle, but the raised it to $50/. At that price we will not go back , in addition the food was mediocre .. gnocchi like mush snd tomatoes not ripe.
Unreal food! Beats a lot of “must go to” italian places in the city. I also feel like it’s a non tourist trap italian which is always nice! Great food and even better service!
Was very hot, the Ac didn’t seem to be working
Good basic italian food
This was my first time here, and it was really lovely. The pasta and the risotto were both delicious - especially the penne pasta dish! Outdoor seating is charming and the service by Tatiana was excellent.
Our only disappointment was the caprese salad: there’s no excuse for pale, watery tomatoes in August!
Our server, who never introduced himself, kept mentioning the jumbo sea scallops, offering to add them to appetizers and entrees alike. He eventually sold my husband on adding them to his pasta, to his grave disappointment. Not so jumbo at all.
Note of caution: our bill for a party of six had gratuity added, and because he did not expect this nor was he watchful for it, my husband tipped on the meal and automatically assumed gratuity. Boy was he ticked when he realized that later!
The Chianti was very pleasant, and the lobster risotto special was delicious.
This was our second excellent dinner at Osteria del Pastaio, with delicious appetizers and main courses, and excellent service thanks to our favorite server, George. We can always count on his recommendations if we are not sure what to pick. Can't wait to return.
I know that restaurants are recovering from Covid but this restaurant didn’t seem to care about anything with regards to service. No one knew what was going on and we were charged for things we didn’t order and when we explained to numerous people no one did anything. They also just added on 20% gratuity for 3 people with horrible service. I would not recommend.
Superb quality food. Pasta is amazing. Attentive service in a lovely intimate setting
Food was fresh & delicious! Great menu and wine list. The dessert selection is phenomenal! Staff is very friendly, professional, timely & sense of humor. Definitely return!
Horrible experience. Filthy bathrooms, mediocre food, insects on the table, a hair in the pasta and the waitress forgot to put in an appetizer in the order.
I have dined many times in the past. Something has changed. The dining room was exceedingly warm and no explanation. The server was nice but seemed really rushed. The food was all excellent except the carbonara which was inedible. We were a group of 5 so I suppose not Uncommon to have one bad meal. The absolutely awful part of the evening was the ladies bathroom. It was disgusting! Absolutely filthy. How can this be? Something needs to change or we won’t come back which is a pity
The food was delicious. We had the filet mignon pasta ravioli sauteed calamari and scallops, pasta wheel, chocolate and cheesecake for dessert The atmosphere was relaxed . The service was outstanding . The waiter's recommendation was awesome . Overall a wonderful experience
Great food excellent service. Neighborhood gem.
We originally booked an outside table. Pleasant enough space outside, but our table was too cramped for 4 people. We re-located inside. Our server, George, was delightful. Great wine recommendation. The lobster risotto and Dover sole, both on special, were fantastic. A real gem!
The food was good but they were short staffed due to covid
Not as good as it was 2 years ago. The change of personnel and chefs has not been favorable. Probably would not go there if it weren’t so close to where I live.
My friend and I we're hoping to enjoy the same superb food we've had at Locanda. Not the case. Drinks were very good and our server was very attentive. Our eggplant appetizer was good. But my cacio de pepi was an oily mess with no flavor and my friend thought her Bolognese was much better on her visit last week. Was a different chef on duty last night? Based on our excellent experience with Locanda, I will give the restaurant a second chance.
Food is superb, service is a little uneven . Overall a great experience.
New management and chef recently. I loved the turbo fish I chose and the caprice’ salad starter. There were a few fresh seafood options and my friend had the scallops on multi colored spaghetti and the hearts of palm salad. I live in the neighborhood and will definitely return. It was great to sit outside and the evening really cooled down nicely.
Food in each course was excellent from the appetizer to the dessert. The service was great. A hidden gem!
