Before the change in ownership, this was one of our favorite Italians in Santa Monica. It is now our least favorite in the world.
We arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation and the gentleman (who we know now is the managing partner) pulled out his cell phone to look at a screen shot of reservations. There seemed to be an issue as there were multiple people turning up at once, and not a lot of tables turning. We sat at the tiny bar briefly until a table was ready.
The first misstep was when we ordered a bottle of wine, the server came over and showed the bottle to us, we thought it was the wrong one, but couldn’t find the wine list to verify so we said okay. After he opened the bottle and we tasted it, we realized it was not correct. The server seemed so overwhelmed with basically serving the whole place we just decided to keep it. It was terrible.
Moving on, we ordered a few courses, which took so long to come out we were starving... when the waiter checked on us we ordered bread, which was dropped off so quickly we didn’t even have time to ask for olive oil. So we ate dry bread and waited 30 minutes for our salad.
Thank god we didn’t order many courses, because all total, we spent 100 minutes to get a salad, fritto misto, bolognese and agnolotti, served in two courses.
This would have been fine had their been decent ambiance, but we were packed in like sardines and couldn’t even converse over the loud conversations around us. A trip to the restroom revealed Chef Marchesan eating dessert in a hallway while the staff argued with each other. The restroom itself had a shower curtain covering up supplies that probably should not be kept in a bathroom.
If the food had been amazing, all could be forgiven, but it was not. The food was sloppily prepared (there was a large chunk of plastic in the bolognese), and lacked flavor.
Long story short, avoid.
Worst Italian I’ve had in LA. They have fake plastic meats hanging as decoration and their bread tastes like they put a roll from the grocery store in the microwave for 5 seconds.
Service was eager and helpful. Caesar Salad was excellent and served very artistically. Tagliatelle Bolognese was best I've every had. Perfectly cooked pasta and rich, delicious sauce. Wine list varied and prices reasonable. Minor gripes: tiny, inappropriate wine glasses and somewhat uncomfortable chairs.
delicious pasta!! mamma mia!! go! delicious caesar salad.... we had bucatini and lasagna. really fresh... I highly recommend for homemade pasta in Santa Monica. yum!

The owner was very friendly
Claudio and his staff did an outstanding job. The waiter, Hugo, had only worked there a short while, but was excellent and knew the menu. The owner and chef took the time to visit our table and say hi. The food was just wonderful. You must try the Buratta. The menu is not extensive but offers the perfect selection for everyone. Highly recommend you visit this wonderful spot.

I'm so disappointed. I came here with my parents who were visiting from out of town for my birthday. First, our server's command of the English language was insufficient. When I asked if I could substitute the Gorgonzola cheese for goat cheese on the spinach salad he said he needed to go check. He came back and said yes, they had Gorgonzola cheese. When I reiterated that I did NOT want Gorgonzola cheese but goat cheese, he went back again to check and said yes, they could substitute the goat cheese. The salad arrived and it was tasty but so incredibly overdressed - just swimming in balsamic vinaigrette. Yuck. When our entrees arrived, our server brought my father Tortellini alla Vodka. However he had ordered Saltimbocca. Again, command of English was insufficient. So, by the time my mother and I had finished our entrees, my father was just beginning his. When I made the reservation on Open Table, I specifically stated that it was a birthday dinner. The restaurant did not even offer a birthday dessert. Nor did they offer any retribution for bringing the wrong entree for my father. BTW, I had the Bigoli with Wild Boar Ragu and the only flavor I could taste was salt. I will never come back here again. Save your money and go 10 blocks up the street to Forma which is fantastic.
Delicious food like you would get in Italy and excellent service in a beautiful quiet setting. Our new go-to for Italian.
Osteria Bigoli never disappoints. The lasagna is THE BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!!! The food is excellent, the staff is friendly and accommodating and the chef, Claudio Marchesan, is always present and eager to please! We look forward to going on a regular basis!
We enjoyed the flank steak and branzino with a side of tuscan kale and loved them both! Healthy, fresh, expertly prepared; we will try the pasta next time. The atmosphere was perfect for our little date night and the servers were very attentive and clearly cared about the food and restaurant. They also assisted with a great wine recommendation. Overall, so happy we tried this new spot on Montana and can't wait to return.

Great food and service. It reminded us of the same food and ambiance we experienced from our recent 2 week journey in southern Italy.
the food was wonderful true Italian cuisine and also creative... the wait staff is experienced and helpful. The menu is interesting. Good familiar northern italian selections. Pasta is fabulous...gargonzola...etc.
We had a nice enough meal to celebrate my husband's birthday but it was relatively expensive and nothing more than pleasant, with okay food
What a disappointment. I loved Vincenzo, the former restaurant on this spot, and hoped that Bigoli would be in the same league. The meal so a sustained exercise in mediocrity. A passable $18 caesar; a short rib papardelle that was shockingly flavorless; and a pinot grigio so awful it had to be sent back. People are nice and the room is pleasant but $100 for a shared salad, a pasta and a fish entree was mind bogglingly. This one is straight meh meh meh.

Great neighborhood Italian restaurant. We had a porcini mushroom risotto appetizer, a pasta and the Branzino. All wonderful. I wish there were more wines by the glass.
Dessert was ok, nothing spectacular.
This is one of my favorite Italian in LA. If you're lucky, you might have a chance to enjoy Opera time.
Menu had few options for vegetarians. Service was slow and inattentive for not being busy. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meal. The apparent Owner sat in the rear on his computer or doing something other than help his staff. Would have been nice if he circulated. My dinner came after everyone finished their dinner. Not good! They should have complimented at least ONE dessert.
Atmosphere and vibe did not fit the pricing. Corkage was excessive at $25 per bottle. Especially, considering we had to wait over 35 minutes to get glasses and open the bottle. Lots of room for improvement.
Second time visiting LA (down for Clapton) found this after a friend recommeneded the previous restaurant that was here (Vincenzo's??). Anyhow wonderful!! It is small so definitely suggest a reservation, but great food, the staff is wonderful, personable, always with a smile! Both visits--no complaints other than we wish they were in WA!!

A wonderful Italian neighborhood gem - friendly service, home made pastas, home-y feel. Caludio is a SF transplant, and had several successful restaurants there (Prego, eAngelo, Pan e Vino) and his depth of experience shows. Not fancy but quality food. A bit pricey but worth it.

The Cuisine was 100% authentic Italian, not Italo-American. It seemed as if we were eating in an excellent restaurant in Italy or at the home of one of our family members living in Italy. The chef- owner is not only skilled, he uses the best ingredients. We talked with him at length and learned of his suppliers here in LA. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Italy and the truly Italian Cuisine. I had the baked Artichoke and Branzino ( it was the real Branzino!) and my husband had two very Italian choices one if which was an excellent pasta. I am Gluten sensitive so I could not have pasta, but my dinner was excellent and I was most happy with my choice. The Panna Cotta was the best I have ever had.
Delicious. Th charcuterie was extravagant. Bolognese and carbonera full of flavor and savory.

LOVED Osteria Bigoli!!! Hanker chief pasta was perfect with a delicious pesto sauce. The veal medallions with prosciutto was flavorful and tender. Also, the service was friendly and attentive. In fact, we loved it so much we are going back this week.
