Will return to Ossobuco when it is fair weather and we can dine outside
On an early evening weeknight this dining room - at first glance - feels charming with warm lighting and staff who let you know they cared even if the restaurant had more than one other couple dining. However, the over-sour Lavender Collins and uninspired bread dish would prove an aperitivo foreshadowing of a poor attempt at Italian cuisine.
A mushy, $32 risotto was served with pieces of lobster that alternated between soft and rubbery in a bowl so hot that your fingers burned near it’s edge. Though the staff would swear the extreme temperate indicated a chef preference, rather than the obvious reheating of a reheated dish, it would be clear to even the untrained palate that the customer should be paid for even trying the dish. Even if well prepared, it would have been hard to enjoy a meal with the loud buzzing of an industrial pasta maker in the dining room that seemed to not notice that it had any customers.
With previous good reviews only one thing can be said: che peccato!
Ossobuci is a treu neighborhood gem woth traveling to from outside the neighborhood. One is always welcomed with a friendly greeting amd made to feel at home. The service is steler withouy being overwhelming and the food is aalways fresh and excellent. he total experience at Ossobuce make one appreciate a fun and fine dining experirnce. We will definately return.
Overpriced for what we got, and a few other issues - cutlery wasn’t clean, wine was only so-so, food was good but again for the prices it wasn’t blowing us away. We used to love this place but seems to have gone downhill a
Delightfully intimate with an excellent wine list and delicious food. Ossobuco never disappoints.
From the moment we walked in, this was a beautiful experience. Each member of the staff was warm, welcoming and engaging. Each dish showed immense care and surprisingly wonderful flavors. I can’t imagine a more enjoyable experience. And the ambience is simply delightful. I can’t wait to return again, and again.
This is a neighborhood gem. Ossobuco has a local staff that's in the restaurant business for the right reason: because they want to serve guests good food and drinks in a nice atmosphere. Its nothing over-the-top or excessively fancy. Its just a great place to have a nice dinner, whether a romantic couple, a bunch of friends , or a family night out. Ossobuco's food has a homemade touch and taste yet elegantly served. We've always enjoyed their wine, never having a bad one. We need more restaurants like Ossobocuo. Give this place a try. All the options are excellent but not surprisingly their namesake dish "Ossobuco" is a namesake for a reason. It's just outstanding.
Excellent home made pastas! Very cool back patio :)
Food was amazing everything was amazing!
Great food and service. Can be a bit loud due to the size of the space if other parties are loud. Overall it was great!
Great food, fresh ingredients. Not salty. One recommendation: get some kind of covering for your outdoor tables so people can eat al fresco without getting wet if it's raining or drizzly.
We had a fantastic dinner and loved the food start to finish. Lobster Risotto and carbonara. Sooo good!
Excellent restaurant with delicious food! I highly recommend this place to all for great service, food, and ambiance.
We really enjoyed our meals at Osso Buco. A warm gazpacho and rockfish filet were well prepared as was a mixed beet salad and a tagliatelle with duck. Mauricio, the owner, was gracious and engaging. We will be back!!!
Great food, slow outdoor service.
My husband and I tried Ossobuco for the first time and we loved it! The food was amazing and the wine recommendations were great. Don’t even get me started on the tiramisu.. it just melts in your mouth. The outdoor patio is cute and romantic but Luis, our server, was kind enough to give us a tour of the indoor dining area and the backside patio. The back patio was beautiful! Will eat there next time for a cozy/romantic dinner. The owner was also so kind. I should also mention that the restaurant itself is spotless. The kitchen is visible and it looks impeccable. I hope more people get to experience Ossobuco. It feels like a hidden gem <3
The staff make you immediately feel at home when you step into the restaurant. You are never rushed to get out the door. The food is wonderful and there is a wide variety on the menu - and everythign comes out perfect!
The service was wonderful, the food was perfection. They found out that it was my son's birthday and he got to chose a free desert. Will definitely be going back to this restaurant again.
This is our third time here and once again it was amazing. This time I had the veal chop special and it was by far the best I've had. It should really be part of the regular menu. We also had the charcuterie plate and the banana ice cream for dessert. Both were delicious. The service is also delightful. Very professional without being overly attentive. It was also apparent they take covid practices seriously. It's a great place for families and large groups.
Great evening. Definitely would recommend. The 4 star instead of 5 is not their fault. We were outside and even though they had mosquito repellent, which was thoughtful, the flies were a but much. If you dine indoors, you'll have a great experience. I would definitely return.
Really great to have a superb Italian restaurant back on 11th and Monroe St NW! We ate outside (with thanks for the available bug spray), but the interior is very nice and we look forward to sitting at that spectacular bar again. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and dinner was delicious. Good wine selections, many appetizer choices, and a much appreciated effort to provide great vegetarian and gluten-free options.
We stumbled on this neighborhood gem because we needed a dinner reservation on moving day. We will definitely be back when we visit our daughter. Food was amazing and the people were very welcoming and helpful.
We enjoyed the sautéed scallops and Caesar salad as starters. Both of us ordered the Veal Ossobucco for main course. The portion was enormous and the taste sublime. We are already planning a return trip. We snagged a table in the cute back courtyard and was happy to see their tables were filled - we had previously been concerned about the staying power of this gem that’s a bit off the beaten path. Service was attentive without being pushy and our waiter had a great wine suggestion to pair with our dinner. We are certain this will be one of our “go-to” restaurants for many years to come.
This is my second time dining at the restaurant and the experience did not disappoint. The staff is amazing! The food is delicious and thoughtful. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the area.
Although this was our first time dining at Ossobuco, it won't be our last. The decor, service and food makes this a neighborhood gem. At the suggestion of our amazing server, Raul, we started with a pasta sampler for appetizers. It included bolognese, carbonara and spinach tortellini. Then we had the ossobuco and seafood risotto. Everything was fresh and delicious! If you never tried this restaurant, you have to go immediately!
Friendly and attentive service. Very good food that’s beautifully presented and good vale foe the
quality of ingredients and preparation. We look forward to returning.
I loved this place! Everything is made from scratch and the pasta is AMAZING. Staff was super attentive.
Great back patio! Excellent service. The heirloom tomatoe special was not the best. They were not ripe and resembled beefsteak. The pesto in the salad helped a lot. Don’t call something heirloom when it’s clearly not.
Luis was a sweetheart! Pulling off an anniversary dinner with our 3 year old in tow and keeping us all happy was no easy feat!
Amazing food and outdoor dining was very comfortable. (Not covered, but in the evening it's in the shade.)
Very nice. We sat outside on the street side patio. Great place to people and dog watch. There are several restaurants ima row and then a dog park so there is a lot of activity. If you want something quieter request the back patio. The servers were very attentive and made some recommendations. They have a very nice cocktail menu.
What a great find in Columbia Heights! Yummy fried calamari and Caesar salad for starters. Delicious fish (rockfish and salmon) and pasta dishes for main courses. A superior tiramisu for dessert. We ate outside on the street so had to contend with the occasional bus going by. Service was pleasant, attentive and efficient.
The food was excellent and great portions. This is a new restaurant and COVID has obviously hampered their ability to find good staff. While very attentive, sometimes too much, staff need to be trained about the food and wine. A Nobile Montepulciano D’Abruzzo for example is not a Vino Noble Montepulciano. Our waitress did not even know that Prosecco is a white bubbly!! But we will go back because the food is traditional and very very good!! We had octopus, Caesar salad, calamari , heirloom tomato salad, the Papardelle, Ossobuco and rockfish. All excellent!!
We had the Caesar salad and pasta dishes. Everything was fresh and service was good.
Incredible meal and great service. This is a hidden gem in Columbia Heights!
Great food, great ambiance, and great service! Will return again soon.
Everything was outstanding. Service was excellent, thank you Gabriel. Food was delicious. Enjoyed immensely.
The food is amazing! We dined here on a whim and really enjoyed it. The pasta was fresh and some of the best I've had outside of Italy. The outdoor setting was perfect. The street is not particularly busy other than others at Streeteries and it was really very nice. Bring bug spray for mosquitos if going in the summer.
So yummy! Go in and support this local restaurant! All the food was delicious
