OSETRA Seafood & Steaks Ratings and Reviews
The staff here make it a point to ensure you are completely satisfied and satiated with some of San Diego’s finest dishes. I must state that both Gio, Mario and their Chefs have incredible skills and talent that are impeccable. Informative, accommodating and dedicated to ensure your taste buds leave happy. Some favorites are the Waygu, the scallops, lobster bisque, and the most sustainable quality of oysters and seafood choices as well. Plan a special night or a simple night alone. The atmosphere is never uptight yet a classy environment that makes you know you’re not only noticed but appreciated. The Lannon Ohana from Hawaii thank you every time for showing us aloha in Osetra’s best in class staff. Happy Holidays to all your families.
The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic and they accommodated my gluten allergy by substituting sauces and making sure that there was no cross-contamination, which was great. The only thing was there was grit in both of my dishes so I wish they would have taken a little bit more time to wash the seafood and vegetables but otherwise it was an amazing place with great food.
I recently brought my husband and 10 of our friends in to celebrate his birthday. We had an AMAZING time and everyone raved about the food and wine. We were given a special table and private room for our large party upstairs. The wait staff was incredible. I cannot say enough good things about our experience.
Happy hour was fantastic! Drinks were fabulous!! Appetizers were great! Had a nice selection on the happy hour menu. Our dinner was fantastic! I had the wedge salad..which was delicious...the lobster bisque was one on the best I’ve tasted. The lamb chops were excellent...cooked perfectly! The wine list was very nice! Dessert..what can I say..molten lava cake..a perfect ending to a wonderful evening. The service was fantastic. Water glass never was emptied..plates taken when empty..friendly and attentive service! Very nice atmosphere!
This was our first time dining at Osetra and we enjoyed it very much. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding, attentive but not intrusive. The dining room is fairly crowded and the evening we were present there were several large and pretty noisy groups. There isn't much the restaurant can do about that but it was a distraction.
Went there for restaurant week and was not disappointed - outstanding steaks. My only criticism is that they are constantly trying to up-sale you. When we sat down, the waitress didn't give us the Restaurant Week menu, and we had to ask twice for her to bring it over. When asked if we'd like sparkling or flat water, we said we'll just have regular water. She brought out a bottle of water ($6). When I ordered a moderate priced ($12) Pinot Noir to go with my dinner, she said she would recommend another one that I would like more, so I took her up on her suggestion. It was $22/glass. I'd say we'd go back again (the food was excellent), but I'm afraid that I will get the "slight of hand" treatment again to up-sale me on things I don't need.
Expensive for the quality of food. Steaks were cooked the way we wanted but were very unseasoned. Side of mashed potatoes was enough to feed four people. They were clumpy as well.
Restaurant had an odd odor.
Too expensive for the quality received.
Will not go back.
This is my 3rd time to Osetra and it's always excellent - from the menu selection, to the quality of food and service. However, I've ordered the octopus for my past two visits (about a year gap from each other), and it's still quite rubbery. Hope they're able to get it right the next time!
I took my wife and family to Osetra and had the BEST meal!! We arrived and sat at the bar for a minute, then got seated.
The food was simply AMAZING!! We had:
- Surf and Turf
- Lamb Chops
- Salmon - came on top of spinach
- Osso Bucco - Our favorite!! (also we loved all the dishes)
The waiter started out a little stiff, but I loosened him up...
Not inexpensive, but so worth it!
The menu seemed limited to some degree and overall, just not worth the price when there are so many seafood places in the area. It costs less to dine at the Hyatt for goodness sake! Not that I want to go there. Go to the Fish Market next to the USS midway if you want variety and reasonable pricing. Sorry guys, I won't be back....this was my second and last shot.
We made a reservation for 11:15pm and when we got there at 11:14, we were told the kitchen was closed. The manager was very friendly though and offered to give us some oysters. We sat at the bar and had drinks and the oysters.
It was weird though when we saw the manager ask two women sitting close by to us if they wanted any food, and then he himself ate. The oysters were good but we were looking to have dinner. Kind of disappointing they had reservations up until 11:30pm but closed the kitchen early.
Only went for happy hour, but glad we did.
Great service and delicious food and $ oysters!
We had oysters, shrimp cocktail, mussels and clams, and the Anniversary roll. All delicious and a complimentary glass of champagne for our anniversary!
Definitely going back!
Want to try their dinners!
Main entrees were not good. I had the seafood special was lobster, shrimp, mussels and clams over pasta. Seafood was over cooked and tough. Could barely cut lobster with a steak knife. Wife had a filet. Meat was tough and lacked flavor. Paid too much $$ for subpar meals. 😔
I would highly recommend the management to remove outdoor seating until San Diego manages the plague of homelessness.
We had several aggressive panhandling attempts, and a few were beyond unpleasant when appeals for cash were denied. Certainly, this is not the environment you would hope for when entertaining a foreign potential investor.
I took my friend for her birthday and what an amazing experience we had! From the moment we arrived each person from the hostess to the food runners to our server to the restaurant manager popped by to wish her a happy birthday. It made it so special for her ON TOP OF the amazing food! We both ordered the sea bass and it rocked our world. It was buttery, flavorful and decadent. We also ordered the lobster mashed potatoes to share and a lobster bisque. Our compliments to the chef weren't enough to express how delicious our meal was. The waitress suggested a delicious white wine that we should have ordered a bottle of because multiple glasses later it would've been more cost effective. At the end of our meal, they surprised us with a candled cake that was made of nutella that was to die for - my friend was so happy! And if that wasn't enough the manager brought us two glasses of champagne with cherries in them to further toast the occasion. It was an amazing experience and created a very special birthday for my friend. We will definitely be going back for happy hour and/or dinner very soon! That sea bass is calling our name!!
We absolutely loved our evening at Osetra. We had been eating lots of seafood so we went there for steaks and I have to say the bone in ribeye and the strip were of superior quality. We started with shrimp tempura which was very tasty. It was unique in that it was very lightly battered. They split a salad for us that was still plenty for each of us. They don't offer a baked potato, but try the Parmesan Fries, super good. Excellent wine service as well. Our waitress Jessica was very attentive as was Giovanni the manger. He checked on us no less than 4 times and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely come back the next time we are in town.
This place was severely overpriced for the quality of food and service that was provided. We had a large party (15) for a birthday, so we were forced into the obligatory 20% service fee + tip and the waitstaff seemed to take advantage of that fact by offering slow service and poor attention to detail. We brought in our own cake that was custom baked for the occasion by a local bakery and despite telling the waiter to please be as careful as possible with storing it in the fridge until it was time for dessert, it came out with the beautiful chocolate sail completely destroyed and the top of the cake just a mess. After deciding to cut the cake ourselves (because they charge a fee PER slice that they slice for you...on your own cake!), they didn't even bring enough forks for everyone and we had to scramble to ask any of the passing waiters for additional utensils. It was a mess. Not the kind of service for a several thousand dollar bill. Disappointing. Didn't want to make a scene at the birthday festivities by dragging out a manager, but I would never return here. I tried calling management after the visit, but the hostess disconnected on me. I didn't want to waste any more energy on this place, so I didn't bother calling back. The food itself was acceptable (but nothing to write home about)--certainly not worth the price tag even if service had been stellar.
In terms of what we ordered:
Octopus - was under cooked to the point of inedible. Restaurant did remove item from our tab.
Lamb - over priced at $40 considering it was average/mediocre
Vegan pasta - swimming in oil
Creme brûlée - the custard was thick and pasty, and the sugar crust was soggy - not crisp.
For four people plus one bottle of wine it all came to almost $300 with tip and none of us really enjoyed our food. Servers were fantastic and accomodating. I wish the food lived up to their standard.
Appetizers were fantastic. Definitely want to try the steak tartar. Our waiter was fantastic (sorry I don't know his name). Went there to celebrate a birthday. We wanted to dress up and were very comfortable in nice dresses and sport coats. Lamb and Steak were to die for. The "special" Seafood linguine had FRESH seafood (clams, mussels, lobster and shrimp) and was very tasty. Nicke cocktails and wine list but overall it was the server who knew when we needed him and when we didn't was excellent!
While we've had some stellar meals at Osetra in the past, this last visit was sub-standard. The fresh shucked oysters were filled with pieces of shell and two were downright mushy and perhaps spoiled. The Sea Bass was fishy and the polenta was flavorless. When it comes to fine dining, we expect consistency. Sadly this was the second time we were disappointed. However, the care from our server, Dorthy, was fantastic. We actually felt sorry for her this trip as we won't be back.
