OSETRA Seafood & Steaks

Valentines Day is always a sh*tshow downtown, but making a reservation on OpenTable, confirming we would get a nice table, and checking in with the restaurant to confirm the menu details was a total breeze. Exceptional service from the host staff during a stressful/crowded/over-demanding night, but my only disappointment was forgetting our server’s name because he deserved recognition for handling his section’s crowd. Lots of stuffy couples with their noses in the air, haha. Bravo to he and the rest of the wait staff last night. Well done. The chefs and kitchen already know how it’s done and continue to deliver year after year. I can always expect delicious fare that never disappoints. 😘😘😘
Food was great just wish our server would of checked on us more often. But good place will go again
Valentine’s Day dinner with my fiancé was a disappointment. His steak was significantly undercooked, and my salmon lacked flavor. The deserts also lacked in that they seemed pre-packaged and lackluster. The music resembled a night club and did not create the ambiance desired for a romantic meal. I expected much more for the $250 price tag.
I had dinner with friends for one of their birthdays. It was our third time dining here. I had the Sea Bass which was amazing and cooked to perfection! One friend had the stuffed sole and one had the lamb chops. They both said their dishes were great! We shared a serving of the lobster mashed potatoes which I could have had as a main course -- they are that good!!! We will definitely be back!
Food was great. Service was outstanding. My only complaint was the size of table.
We brought our friends to Ostera for the food and the experience of the wine tower. We were terribly disappointed that the staff was not climbing the tower due to a problem. The food was wonderful, as we’ve experienced in the pas, but we were not happy that the spectacular wine tower (which is greatly advertised) was not operating. I hope the owner gets everything working for our next visit to San Diego.
Our waiter went above and beyond and made us feel like regulars. He was very friendly and knowledgeable of the specials and menu and helped us feel at home making sure we got exactly what we were in the mood for. Our filets were out of this world and I really enjoyed the lobster mashed potatoes. We don’t remember his name but we hope he gets the kudos he deserves! Thanks for a great date night!
Very bad cuts of beef around the table. Seafood was over cooked. Prices are way to high for the lack of quality. We had an attentive server - but the overall experience lacked what you would expect at this price range. The atmosphere was run down- the wine tower was not in operation and bathrooms were more like a gas station, not fine dining. Skip this joint!
Loved it!! Would come here again!
Last Friday 1/24- I wrote on yelp
Oh my gosh! Our reservations were at 6:30 and it is 8:10 and we were served our side dishes but still waiting for our main courses. Hilarious our waiter said - did u enjoy ur food and are u ready for dessert !!! Where is our main course ? Who runs this restaurant ! Literally writing this review as we continue to wait for our food! Not coming back! How do you forget the main course!
I actually kind of pike our evening but i and mt husband got really sick so cannot speak highly about food quality. I also belive it is pretty limited menu.
Excellent service, great space, helpful and courteous staff, great menu selection. Will definitely recommend to friends, colleagues, and family. The best restaurant and dining experience in downtown San Diego so far!
Osetra was terrific. Just what we wanted and staff was so nice.
Although this is on the face of it a sea food restaurant, I had a wonderful New York Strip Sirloin steak here. Super quality food.
Was my first and last time on this place.
Even with reservation we have to wait 30 minutes and the service was not so good as the food.
The oysters are as the same size as a coin
I would have felt cheated spending $60 on the meal I had and our bill was over $300. The food was absolutely awful. Cheap cuts of meat improperly cooked. Boxed pasta. Raw brussel sprouts. And to top it off STONE COLD pecan pie? What a joke! My husband and I were legitimately angry when we left. The chef should be fired.
We were seated immediately.
Our order was taken quickly then we waited and waited 65 minutes later still no entree meanwhile all tables around us have received their meal and finished eating. We call waitress over tell her we are done waiting and she proceeds to bring us the bill ... I ask to speak to the manager and she snatches the bill from me and says it’s free with an attitude- what’s free ? Water and bread ? What about an explanation as to why our meal never came out or an apology for the error.
Our dinner took an extremely long time... we ordered at 8:15p and did not get our food until 9:45p.
Alex was our server for New Year’s eve and not only did he make the night absolutely magical when it was all said and done he even splurge for my beautiful sweetheart and I for a dessert… With the class, elegance, and ambience of this establishment one is surely to find the secret ingredient to bind two people together at that very moment in time.
Got together with friends on New Year’s Eve, our waitress was slow. I understand it was New Year’s Eve and the kitchen was probably a bit backed up but it took her 45 minutes to get us bread and a bottle of wine. She never apologized or followed up, each time we needed something we had to flag her down and ask.
We went here for New Years’ Eve with our 10 year old and still had a wonderful time! The “small” seafood platter was huge and diverse. And my husband’s pasta was perfect. My son’s chicken tenders were a large portion and cooked just right for him. The wine list was great for me and the beer selection was also very good for my husband. Highly recommend this place for a great meal in ten Gaslamp!
Great food, great service.
We made a reservation and even with that we were seated at a table in the bar. A table that was in the middle of a cross path. I requested standard seating in my reservation. I went back to the hostess and she seated us elsewhere which had many open tables for two diners so I’m confused why she put us in the bar in the first place. We were ignored for about 15 minutes and then a waiter who also seemed to be serving as sommelier took menus from the diners next to us and plopped then on the table. No wine list no cocktail menu and didn’t bother to ask if we wanted them. We ordered the calamari and the oysters. The calamari was rubbery the only thing salvageable was the shrimp. The oysters came with cubes of ice melting into what would have been a standard champagne mignonette, not separated fully from the membrane, without oyster forks, and no hors d’oeuvres spoons to put the watered down mignonette or cocktail sauce is n the oysters. For entree we ordered the cioppino and the shrimp linguine. The cioppino was actually flavorful but the shrimp linguine which was listed under house specialities was frozen meal level. The waiter seemed to sense we had an issue and proactively sent the manager over who sent us a free dessert, lemon chiffon cake, which was good and gave us a 25% discount so they did try to mage it right.
Excellent foods, drinks. The waiter forgot some stuff we ordered but everything else was perfect. We would go back to this restaurant.
Great service and food, had Christmas Eve dinner and had a wonderful time.
The staff was so friendly, the portions were generous and the flavors were sumptuous. Very cozy yet private atmosphere. Overall it was a superb dining experience.
One of the classiest restaurants in San Diego! The Food and Service are outstanding!
Wish we had more time to enjoy the ambiance, service and food at Osetra, but we were running late for a show. Next time will try to manage our time better. I had a wonderful veggie dish and my friend had octopus. Great glass of Sancerre wine too. I bet their desserts are wonderful too.
Excellent meals, wonderful service. Very professional staff.
Came here from out of town for Thanksgiving dinner and loved it! The food was amazing, server was attentive and they played Christmas music quietly in the background. I would definitely come again next time I was in town!
Mediocre food. Odd vertical cellar with faux angel on cable picking bottles. Much overpriced.
The location and ambiance is good. We sat outside by choice which was of course noisy and impacted by cars driving by and folks smoking on the streets. Inside it was quieter and calmer. The food was good but did not warrant the high price. The lobster bisque was mediocre. The calamari appetizer was unique but not my favorite. The sea bass was very good but again overpriced. All portions were ample though very heavy on the starch and carbohydrates, which most of us did not finish. We will probably not go back since there are so many other good restaurants in the Gaslamp with much lower price tags.
Excellent food! The New York strip steak was awesome. I highly recommend!
The ambiance and service was good but we were not impressed with our meals.
Service, food, manager were perfection!! I highly recommend getting the crab legs;)
Worst steak ever. Quality and preparation, the chef got it wrong twice.
We actually went back after the first time. First time I would rate higher. Second time the food was not as good as the first. Steak the first night second night I had the seafood fettuccine. Shellfish meat was really small and not very tasty. Bland. My wife had the lobster Mac and cheese, again, couldn’t taste the cheese, bland.
A friend and I decided to meet for dinner. He’s never been to Osetra and it’s been a year or two since I’ve been and I was craving lobster. We were sat upstairs which was great. I’ve never been up there. Our server Shad was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and attentive in the right way. We had a fantastic and decadent dinner.
Great food and great service! I can't wait to eat there again!
