Our daughter chose the Hibachi table for her birthday dinner. We were very pleased. The quality of the food was superb and exceeded expectations. Better selection than other Hibachi restaurants in the area. Excellent service in a clean, comfortable environment.
Easy to get a reservation, quick in and out before theatre.
Yum, everyone liked it.
Good food. Hibachi and sushi options. Just an FYI that the hibachi meals are available in the regular dining room as well. Would go back.
Good food & atmosphere. Great to bring a date or group of friends/family. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes hibachi & sushi.
Went for Valentine’s Day and while we were initially seated at a hibachi table neither of us particularly wanted hibachi and the host was more than happy to accommodate us to a private table. Fantastic dinner at a very reasonable price.
Overall, the food was pretty good. The hibachi chef was friendly, but half heartedly put together a show/presentation at best. Our server was short, kept forgetting things, and we had to ask 4 times for a glass for our sake before we received one. The comedy show was pretty good. I would go back in hopes that this was a bad night for the limited staff we saw.
the food was really good and the ‘show’ around it as well... but our waitress was so unbelievably rude.
Great show with hibachi and fun cook, great food and tastes
Our reservation for 16 people was upgraded to a private room which could seat 20 and had two stations. That immediately warrants 5 stars for customer service, ambiance, and noise level. The price for a seafood or steak and seafood meal isn't much more than your typical restaurant, but you do get a bit of a show (not as much as Benihana), but the bottom line is this: the food is fresh off the grill. That alone makes the food taste so much better. Quantity was good - everyone was full. The restaurant let us bring in birthday cakes and they let us have dishes and sang happy birthday with us (they're not great singers, but they try). Overall, it's a great experience and the kind of place I don't mind taking out of town guests, especially because you can get lobster tails which gives the New England/Boston twist that's good for visiting VIPs.
In all my times of eating T Osaka, I had a very unenjoyable time this past Saturday night. I brought friends from out of town to try and we were left heavily disappointed. The wait staff acted with no urgency when trying to set up table with appropriate table wear. We had to ask multiple times for silverwear, waters,...basic items that should have been at the table as soon as we sat down. Instead, we were unable to enjoy our meal before we even had utensils to eat with. We also ordered items that were never brought to our table. It was a shame of a visit.
We've chosen this restaurant for the little celebration of my husband's retirement as we remembered our previous experiences coming here for dinner and having sushi/sashimi plates ('love boat" for 2 was our favorite), and it was always a very good experience! This time we were having a party of 6 and wanted to be able to talk, so did not go for hibachi side and were placed on sushi part of restaurant, but wanted to have hot cooked dinner. It was not noisy at this time (around 6 pm) so we could enjoy nice conversation, but were not so lucky with our meals. My daughter and I were anticipating having Char-grilled Chilean Sea Bass marinated in sake sauce, as it was offered in a menu that we received in confirmation e-mail from Open Table. We did not find this dish in the menu that was given to us at restaurant (actually, we did not find in this menu the entire part under the title Chief's Special) When We asked the waitress, she said that they do not have this dish for already two years... So we had to improvise and ordered something we did not intend. I was having Shrimp and Scallops, my daughter had sea-weed salad and sashimi (she is on special diet), other people had different dishes (fillet Mignon with Lobster Tail, Hibachi Chicken, Hibachi Salmon), but when my daughter looked at our plates, she said that all our dishes looked absolutely the same! And honestly, my shrimps were tasting like scallops (scallops were overcooked and chewy) may be because of the same oil with very strong overpowering taste that was used for making hibachi. My husband said that his fillet mignon was overcooked. Our guests were satisfied with their meals. Staff was polite and efficient.
Overall experience was OK, but I don't think we will come to this place again, at least to have hot dinner.
If you want Hibachi Steak this is definitely the place to go. However, the seasoning on our food was a little bland but the fried rice had so much garlic that we were regurgitating the taste of it for days. The first time we went was on a Friday and the atmosphere was great. This time was a Sunday and there just was very little energy from the chefs. Kind of felt like a rerun. It is pricey so you do hope for more excitement or culinary hibachi tricks.
Great food bad service. Seemed like it had been a long day for the chef and waitress.
Delicious fish, delicious apps, delicious wine, but inconsistent service
Table not ready right away, but it was very good. We wish the hibachi show lasted longer, but it was very busy, so we understood why that may have been the case. Would come again!
Had a really good dinner. Staff was more than attentive and never left us waiting. Can’t wait to go back and try their hibachi.
But I dint get the discount on the food for being a birthday and the cooks should be more fun and interact more with people only one cook there i don’t know his name if fun other the that food it’s great.
Amazing experience. Went for my sister’s birthday with family. Her meal was free and then the hibachi chef made balloon animals for the little kids!
Always live their sushi. Tomo! Half and half! American Tango! Yum!!
Great value for price. Great for group dinner
I celebrated my birthday last min and wanted something where me and my party attire could be formal to go along with this restaurants scenery. I was greeted and they sent us downstairs to wait until my party arrived. I loved the food and the chef were so entertaining. I enjoyed my birthday. Also be sure to ask about the birthday special if you have a party of 4 or more people coming with you. I ended my night doing karaoke downstairs. It was such a great atmosphere.
Our server and chef were very nice. Thank you for the birthday dessert for my boyfriend. He loves this place, that's why we keep coming back.
Food was delicious
Seafood taste wasn’t great it tasted like it stayed in the fridge for a long time
Scallops and salmon were what we ordered
Steak was good, a little over cooked but the flavor was fine
The location is a quick, 2-block stroll from the Coolidge Corner Thtre. They're open late and there's plenty of nearby parking. Service (the night before Thanksgiving) was fabulous; they stayed open to accommodate us. All of our dishes were speedily cooked, served piping hot, well-presented and tastefully seasoned. Various noodle dishes were fresh and filling. The large, hot, house sake was perfect on such a frigid evening. Luckily I wasn't driving, since my feet never touched the ground after "lift-off"!
Love Osaka! They are so accommodating for large groups. Fun atmosphere, fantastic food, great hibachi show, and karaoke in the basement. Love love love.
This was my second visit and I’m glad to say the quality of food and service was just as great as the first time. The Hibachi Chefs are fun and interact with the guests really well making this just as much about entertainment as a great meal out!
Food was great as always, buy the service could be better. Overall good experience!
Great sushi!
The establishment closes at 11 and I was lucky enough to reserve a table for 10:15. I called ahead to make sure that the kitchen was not closing and the personnel assured me that we should be fine if we arrive no later than 10:30. When we arrive at 10:20, the personnel informed us that the chef left. Super unprofessional. We called ahead to avoid making the trip. Even if you’re tired by the end of the day, if there are reservations and it’s not closing time, then the chef should be working!!!!!!! I’ve let this slide once because the food is great, but honestly you can get great hibachi close by & anywhere. Don’t go to this establishment that will just waste your time and steer you away from being a loyal customer.
The service could always be better and better quality meats and seafood would make the price worth. But Osaka is still good with great drinks and a fun time!
Food was great as expected, however, the service left a lot to be desired. Our waitress took our drink and dinner orders and then seemingly disappeared. Our chef was lackluster, and did not entertain us to the level that all of the other groups were being entertained. He simply showed up and cooked our food. That was disappointing.
This is my favorite hibachi place! The food and service is always excellent!
The people that work there are super nice the food is always cooked to your liking and it’s nice to be able to watch your food bet prepared right before your eyes
Excellent as usual! We love Osaka in Brookline and Northampton!
From time to time we take our kids and our grandchildren to a fun dining experience, and for this, Osaka’s hibachi dinners are great. The chef always puts on a good show and the youngsters love it. Food quality is good, especially the combo of hibachi shrimp and fillet mignon. Price is fair. A high energy place, for sure, but the service was good. No complaints. They even had special birthday ice cream and candle for the two celebrants.
Great dinner at Osaka. Service was on point, we ordered drinks and sushi before our meal and everything was outstanding.
We were well taken care of at Osaka! Will definitely recommend to my friends and family!
The Boston College football team was there for dinner and they made lots of noise. My elderly father could not hear our conversation. The good was OK. The New York steak was a little tough. The seafood was tasty. The fried rice was very heavy on the soy sauce. The chef was good natured but not spot-on. He flipped little prices of eggplant to the customers sitting around the table. I caught mine in my mouth. My father waved his hand to indicate "no thanks" the chef missed the cue and proceeded to miss my dad's mouth too. He proceeded to miss the next three members of our party (landing the egg plant bit on my mothers forehead). When serving serving the fried rice he nodded to my father as of to ask if he'd like some. My father put his hand up clearly indicating "no" but was served the rice anyway. My suggestion would be ... don't ask if you're going to ignore the answer. I would have much preferred plain boiled rice and regretted that that option was not offered. I did not order an alcoholic drink as I am a recovering alcoholic. If the chef were attentive he would have observed that I was not drinking alcohol and not have held up the squeeze bottle in front of my face and offered a squirt of sake.
Hibachi cooking was rushed even though chef was very nice. My fillet mignon was tasteless, fatty & tough. Nothing like a fillet should taste like. The scallops were very good.
