We even got Spanish cider poured in the glass the Spanish way
It was the right portion size and so tasty
Fun restaurant, but don't come really hungry or you will be disappointed. The food was great, but very small portions for the price. A charcuterie plate should really have more that a few paper-thin sliced meats. Now, I know we eat a lot in the US, but this really surprised my guests and me. Each tapas plate was very small and never had as much food as I have had at tapas bars in Spain. Even the paella dish was small like a dessert ice cream bowl--they advertise it is for two to share. Never saw such a small paella dish. So the flavors are large and the servings are small. Not much more to add.
Every dish we ordered was tremendous. Fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. The waitress was fantastic. Had good suggestions for dishes to share and she comped us our dessert. The best meal we had in NYC
Bottom line when they are serving sardines and they are a Spanish/Portuguese restaurant then sardines should be fresh. Don't get me wrong I love great canned sardines but that should be mentioned if that is what you serving and these canned sardines were not even good.
The manchego was barely aged and other tapas we tried were ehhhh. The best thing was the potatoes.
I always enjoy a visit to Ortzi. Their monthly paella choice is always fantastic and everything I have tasted on the menu has been terrific.
It was fine. Nothing special
I would not attend this restaurant. Along with the food being overpriced, the celebrity chef is no longer there. The restaurant continues to falsely advertise that he is still connected to the Ortizi.
I’m staying at the hotel for business so ate alone. Great food great service and reasonable value for NY. The thing that spoilt my evening was the two tables next to me that decided they needed to swear every other word and very loudly. . Sorry I’m English and you don’t do that no matter how important you thing you are. So not the restaurants fault thought they could have said something about the fowl language being used. I’m no prude and have no problem with general slang Language and less offensive swear language but this went much further than that.
I liked everything about Ortzi,.. the food, the service, the ambience. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented , and delicious. The portions were just the right size, and well-priced. Recently I had a bad experience what I considered a small amount of food for what I consider a lot of money... $39 dollars for about 3 bites of rabbit, and not very good rabbit to boot. I had no such problem at Ortzi. I will be going back very soon.
Food was good and our waiter was excellent, however the duck in the duck paella was too rare making it too tough to chew. After asking to have it cooked more it was better.
A real treat...fun and great food.
Great for sharing tapas and main course options. Great location near Times Square and theaters. Outstanding in every way. Delicious food and excellent service. Can't wait to go back!
Food was delicious , service was great and they were very attentive.. love the menu
We arrived for a pre theatre meal and ordered both small and large plates. The small plates arrived and were delicious and then we waited and waited for over an hour. Our large plates never appeared and we had 10 minutes to make the show. No large plates, no coffee and dessert. To the restaurant’s credit, they took the items off the bill. I was hoping for a great experience and was sorely disappointed. Don’t go to this restaurant for pre theatre. Go when you have nothing else to do.
Excellent service couple with great food. We selected the Chef’s meal with wine pairing. Amazing!
The salad appetizer on the lunch menu was fine, the fish plate was very fresh and tasty. Nice low calorie lunch for me, a hearty soup and sandwich that my friend really enjoyed.
Pet peeve - $5 for a cup of tea. And not particularly good tea either (the cheap Harney's teabag. They could have at least gotten the better whole leaf bags from Harney's).
I'll be back and drink my tea at home.
Loved it! Delicious tapas. Sangria excellent
We really enjoyed the creative tapas most dishes delivered--especially the toro with caviar and the razor clams. The preserved tuna was glorified tuna salad and a bit disappointing but still good, and service top to bottom was flawless. I wish Garces's other Manhattan restaurant was still open because dining in a hotel is a little off-putting to a local. Still, the dining room is separated enough from things to be welcoming.
Reese was lovely!
Overpriced; limited breakfast menu. Had great expectations but was disappointed. It was a basic diner room layout. Cold atmosphere.
This is a rather new restaurant, and the food is great. Many choices of tapas. We ordered a pre-set four-course tapas. But each course came with three dishes. So, after the third course, we were full. Each dish was delicious. I also asked to change our seats, as it was a bit cold near the entrance. They accommodated our request pleasantly. Definitely, recommend to my friends.
Food is outstanding. Wonderful flavors and seasoning. Contemporary takes on traditional tapas such as tortilla Espanola and patatas braves were excellent. Good Spanish wine and excellent cocktails. The version of creme Catalan for dessert is delicious. Wonderful dinner.
Superb Spanish cuisine. A variety of outstanding and memorable small plates. Tasting menu was a terrific way to navigate through some unfamiliar dishes. Our server was extremely helpful in explaining the menu. Service was very good, although it is a bit leisurely.
Had the tasting menu- was excellent!
I already shared my feedback with the restuarant, but the service was horrible. My meal was poorly done but my dates meal was a little better than average. I would not return. It really did remind me of a bad hotel restaurant from the midwest. Poor service and average food.
Always a challenge to find a pre-theater restaurant in Times Square. Ortzi is right below it on 41st, in the Luma Hotel and it was a fine pre-theater choice with delicious cocktails.
Fantastic food. Great service. Great portion size. Flavorful.
Food lacked flavor and was overpriced.
The decor reminded me of Moroccan decor - if you've ever seen their use of pierced metals - but very swirly, very American, but yet pared down and neutral. The space is really pretty, has a clean feel, good use of indirect lighting. It's a pity I hadn't found it before; it opened about a year and a half ago. I think it's inside a hotel (LUMA). We had the Habas salad, a fava bean salad, with smoked egg yolk, feta, and meyer lemon - a deep, rich palette of flavors. Had the Cochinillo Asado, which is a generous portion of roast, suckling pig on a couscous salad - it was good but did not have crispy skin - would satisfy 2, or even 3. Tried the beef/pork meatballs with a soft poached egg, that was good. Roasted red prawns with preserved lemon might be an acquired taste; very earthy and maybe I'm used to Asian approaches to prawns. The white sangria was refreshing and delicious. They have a decent wine and cocktail menu. In general, I was pleasantly surprised at the wonderful dining experience at Ortzi. I have a feeling the menu will always be delightful, since there are so many vegetarian or pescatarian options.
Cute find...must try the scallops! They are to die for!
Fantastic restaurant! Highly recommended. The menu is well balanced and diverse. Excellent sea food options.
Great food really bad service. Twice we ate there and both times had bad service, for breakfast the waitress didn’t even bring had of our food or check on our table. Similar situation at happy hour.
We got seated in the bar even though we had reservations. They also were understaffed, with one waiter taking the orders from everyone in the bar, who also had to make everyone's drinks. I wouldn't go again with the number of other restaurants in the city.
Only plus was that since we got seated in the bar we got happy hour price sangrias, but unfortunately those sangrias also were syrupy, wife said they tasted like robutussin, so really a wash at the end of the day.
Excellent food! Great service! Pleasantly surprised. We love tapas and happened to pick this spot due to its proximity to our hotel. Would definitely go here again!
Top notch Spanish good and service at this gem hidden away at the back of a small mid block hotel. Perfect for pre-theater dinner.
Had a wonderful pre-theater meal. Red snapper crudo was amazing and the charcuterie was delish. Also had crispy potatoes and meatballs. All were delicious. The cappuccino was wonderful!
Me and my Fiance were amaze by the food, service and everything! Our favorite Restaurante Español
My first time at any Jose Graces’ restaurants. The service staff was very friendly, waiter asked if I had been here before, & when I said no, he was very patient explaining the different parts of the menu....,tapas, charcuterie, main courses, etc. the fried artichoke amuse buche was spicy & crunchy at the same time. The foie gras appetizer was tasty, but in my opinion needed some kind of sauce. The olive oil & balsamic drizzle wasn’t enough. For a main course I had the bronzino, seared and served with chick peas & thinly sliced cucumbers. The fish was very tasty & fresh. Way too many flavorless chick peas. The dessert flan with pistachio was also tasty but a bit dry. The prices here are very reasonable. I’ll wait until the kitchen works out all of the kinks before I return.
I work close by and there is always a lively scene happening at the bar and lounge. I decided to give it a try. My nephew was in town and he is a bit of a foodie. I was not disappointed. In fact, it expected my expectations. I look forward to going again and again.
