We had a delightful experience with the tapas selection. We are looking forward to our next meal which will be the tasting menu.
It was good, especially the cocktail!
Excellent Spanish food in a beautiful space. Everything was perfect and delicious from beginning to end. A rare find for a pre-theater meal!
Well, I guess we had high hopes reading the other reviews online.
I have spent quite a lot of time in the Pyrenees and in the Basque region over the last decade and I love the area, I have always had good experiences in Basque restaurants and bars.
But unfortunately we didn't have a great experience at this restaurant.
There was a list of 5 french rose wines; great!
Except that only one was in stock, and none of the ones we wanted.
It went on like this.
If you are going to have a wine list, please stock at least half of the wines.
Overall a disappointing experience and I won't be returning.
I don't think the staff who we met had had much understanding of where the Basque region is, or its culture. Maybe some more pinxtos on the menu would help add some variety.
We visited Ortzi before going to theater. They serves tapas so it's ideal when you want to have something quick, but good, in a nice-atmosphere restaurant. Food was nice. It was not so crowded so we could talk without screaming. Definitely one of the option for pre-theater.
First time here and definitely will return. Interesting menu with something for everyone.
This was a great positive surprise. We did a lot of small dishes (tapas) and ended up in a phenomenal octopus paella. I added to my list of favors and plan to come back again and again!
Fantastic meal and great service.
We had a great dinner! Amazing food and great service!
After theater matinee dinner
A wonderful new choice in the Theater District. Quick faultless service, excellent wines by the glass, tapas list allows you to create a meal that matches your level of hunger.
Beautiful dining room and service/staff was amazing!
Nice space very good food outstanding service . Loved the decor of this small but bright spot. Amazing cocktails and delicious food served with style and grace.
Wonderful—every dish delicious; staff was attentive and made excellent recommendations. It is a gem of a place.
Great food, great service, I really loved it. I celebrated my bday there with a friend and our waiter even put a candle on my dessert :-) I had a wonderful time.
We usually like visiting Jose Garces owned restaurants in Philadelphia but this one didn’t impress. Although the wait staff was friendly, the service wasn’t good. We waited 20 minutes to get an appetizer and didn’t enjoy the lackluster sangria. We planned on having dinner there after happy hour but decided to head out. The potatoes were tasty and the paella was very good but next time we will go to Amada in Philly.
We return every few months when we visit New York and the menu changes ever so slightly.. never disappointed and we especially love the Octopus Paella!
Great food and very good service
We were going to the theater and chose this place because it was only one block away from the Nederlander. The waiter was very good, friendly and informative. We all enjoyed our food very much. We could not decide on what wine we wanted to order and he let us taste the house wine to help us decide. I would recommend the place and I plan to return there when I am in the neighborhood.
We picked restaurant since it was on same block as show Pretty Woman, and glad we did. Friendly greeting and friendly helpful waiter.modern decor in a boutique hotel. Helped me decide on a wine with dinner. We ordered a charcuteria platter to share. I had scallops and partner had paella. All food was excellent, though portions were on the small side. We had the apricot custard dessert which was very nice
If we’re in the 41 St area we would definitely dine here again
It was overall a very nice traditional brunch, with good products and very well prepared food. I was a bit disappointed by the wine list and the lack of more local basque meals.
We were present for Sunday brunch. Everything was very tasty for standard brunch type items with a little twist. It was not crowded when we were there at noon for pre-Theater. We were served very promptly by pleasant waitstaff. The dining area was very spacious but somewhat sterile looking. We were all satisfied with our meals but there was nothing special about it. I would definitely go there again for brunch pre-Theater when the show is within a couple of blocks, this time was 1 block away. I would not necessarily travel far. The pricing was reasonable, on par or maybe a little less for breakfast items/sandwiches for the area. Very good fries.
Best seafood paella I’ve had in the city, suckling pig was off the charts, pork skewer appetizer was super tasty as were the meatballs and croquettes. Appetizer portions are tiny but the mains were a decent portion but not large by any means.
Service was the worst. The waiter never asked if we wanted drinks served water and left, one person flagged him down to order a bottle of wine he took his order and left the table of 8 to get the wine did he think we’d share a bottle for 8ppl? He cane back we asked him for drinks and he took only 1-2 ppl and was about to leave and we had to tell him everyone wanted drinks. He then asked should I take your order now or after the drinks? We all said we’d like to have a drink before dinner so yes please bring the drinks then we’ll order. We never got any water refilled all night from the waiter nor the busboys and we were there for 3 hours.
He was like that throughout the night. Coming for one person at a time, ignoring half the table’s requests, he was just really inattentive and ignorant to the fact that he was only serving a few people at a time and running away and giving himself double triple the work and really ruined the experience of being in such a good restaurant.
Go for the food!!!! Expect bad service.
Our small plates were all beautifully presented and tasty. The large red prawns were superb! A great pre theatre choice
Very tasty tapas. Got very noisy once it filled up. Great find in an area with a lot of poor tourist trap restaurants.
One of the best meals I have had in years - everything was well prepared and tasty. Although portions are small they are sufficient to share with others at the table. The croquetas and albóndigas are outstanding.
Staff was friendly and approachable but it took them a while to offer us drinks after we sat down. Food was excellent.
Pre-Theatre dining for two couples celebrating an anniversary. We decided to load the table with seven small plates. Each one was a special treat. Tortilla Espanola, artichokes, Red Snapper Tartar, poached Salmon Trout, Sardines,,.each fantastic. The four of us then shared a summer paella (octopus) of rich flavors and assorted seafood. Service was impeccable. Glorious evening
Drinks weren’t that great but the food was.... we ordered 4 tapas and the oxtail to share. Oh boy we dead laughing when the one, yes I said ONE oxtail came out. But it was DELICIOUS!!!! The foie gras was great also. The meatballs, Bonita del Norte and the Toro were good also. They definitely need better drinks. We probably would have stayed longer if the drinks were better.
Nothing special. Hotel lobby restaurant. Service very slow. Nothing to write home about.
We had a dinner of tapas and side dishes and everything was excellent. Very interesting flavors. Our waiter suggested a white wine that was a winner for us and the dessert was the perfect ending to a perfect dinner. We invited a friend who is also a discerning foodie and she was impressed. This was my second visit to Ortzi and I'll go back again.
Some Flies in the dinning room
Delicious food and great service. We went for restaurant week and only disappointment was that the whole table needed to order from Prix Fixe in order to get it. But great experience otherwise.
Outstanding food! The staff are the best I have come across in a long time. Wonderful experience. Put this place on your list.
Very much enjoyed our dinner at Ortzi! The food was excellent and the staff was friendly and attentive. It was the perfect location for us as well as it was close to our Broadway theater show.
I was disappointed that the Restaurant Week menu didn’t specify that the offerings would be sandwiches. Also, I felt slightly cheated that with the 3 people in my party had to share the same tapas. We all ordered the same thing so shouldn’t each have had our own? The food tasted good but my friends did not enjoy the sandwich bread. It was toasted very hard and was difficult to bite through. I had to eat the bread separately from chicken that was in the sandwich.
Food was excellent and I would return for the food. Service was not up to scratch, no personality whatsoever and hostess was either very inexperienced or just didn't care what impression she gave - we almost walked out based on her 'welcome'. A long way to go service-wise. Décor is very bland and typical of a hotel restaurant, much more could be done to give the space a touch of the Basque country. Such a shame that no other element of the experience matches the food.
The food and service was really good.
The best restaurant I’ve ever been to. Each dish was perfectly crafted from the red snapper crudo the the chicken and grits dish right down to the chocolate caramel dessert. The staff was delightful. A wonderful dining experience. Can’t wait to go back!!
Excellent tapas and serivce! We got here a little early and had a drink at the bar which was lovely. The dining area is also very nice and we had authentic tapas which were delicious. Try the jamon serrano, croquetas, albondigas, gambas, and snapper crudo. All were wonderful! Definitely we will return!
