Basque
Ortzi is a Basque inspired Spanish restaurant from James Beard award winning chef Jose Garces located on the lobby level of the brand new LUMA Hotel Times Square. The forty-five seat dining room is built around an open kitchen focused on a rustic, yet elegant approach to the cuisine of the Basque country and Northern Spain. In the lobby of the hotel, Ortzi offers a more casual, first come, first serve bar and lounge serving the same menu as the dining room and centered around a beverage program inspired by the wines and spirits of Northern Spain and Atlantic France. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are served daily and reservations are for the dining room only.

The food is outstanding.....very tasty. Now keep in mind the portions are tapas (small). The point of this type of food is try / taste different things. Slow down and enjoy. Let your tastebuds experience truly well prepared food.

If you’re looking for an American size portion....this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for something tasty, and want to enjoy time with friends, a glass or two of wine and great food, then this is the place for you.

This is not an inexpensive place to dine so bring your wallet. That being said it is worth the price.

The restaurant is located in a nice space in the back of the ground floor lobby level of a hotel. Open kitchen, pretty cool decor. Food is Spanish tapas and paellas. The food taste and quality was quite good, if not always strictly traditional. Our seafood paella was flavorful and well-cooked, but did not have the "soccarat" (charred rice on the bottom) that a good paella should have. Portions, for the price, are on the smaller size (ok, ok, I know it's tapas, but still). Overall, a very good meal, and a nice alternative for pre-theater dinner or dinner/drinks/snacks in the Bryant Park neighborhood.

I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with 3 close friends. It was our first time there. The staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. Our server was knowledgable and attentive. We decided on the chef's tasting menu, which was an outstanding and memorable experience. I am not exaggerating or being kind when I say everything we tasted was beyond delicious - there was truly not one thing that we didn't love. Looking forward to going back and bringing more friends there!

For me the restaurant was a nice size. So the waiters were able to be very attentive to all the customers. We ordered several appetizers which was recommended by the waiter as well as our main course. Dessert !! Omg!
Definitely a place to visit. The food is out of this world!!!

Was lucky to be able get a pre-theater table during a weekend jaunt from San Francisco and was looking forward to Basque food as that is how it was advertised. Surprised at the lack of actual Basque dishes. Also wished for some Sherry options.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and value of food @ Ortzi. It was a wonderful place to dine pre-theatre. The "green" paella was amazing. Highly recommend as a nice place to enjoy a meal.

The place was dead, our server insistent, and the food wasn’t even mediocre. There are better Spanish restaurants in the city and I am surprised this chef is “famous”. I love his politics, but I didn’t love the food. The restaurant was empty, slow and unimpressive.

Our waiter was our savior. He was helpful in translating some of the items, was able to point out gluten free items for my girlfriend. He was very cautious about that.

The food was great. We each had a salad. Then I had the meatballs with a poached egg. We also had scallops and the steak along with Brussel sprouts. More than enough and it was all delicious.

Ortzi was a real surprise as it is not easy to find good food and excellent service so near to the theater. We enjoyed all the dishes, the green salad was fresh and beautifully dressed - the pork belly and razor clams were very tasty and the lima beans were a treat. We will be back.

The crown Jewel of the Garces group. Chef's tasting with wine pairing was excellent. Be warned that the pours on the wine pairing are very generous. We shared the pairing and were still woozy.

We went to Ortzi before a show and decided to do the chef's tasting menu. It was 4 courses and everything was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the fried artichoke with citrus which I would never have ordered on my own. Service was excellent.

Do you like being told “no”? Then this is the place for you. We were presented with an a la carte menu and a pre fixe menu. However you can only order the prefix menu everyone gets it, not only one person wants it. Do you want a refill on your iced tea or seltzer? There is a charge for that! Do you want to substitute vegetables for your couscous? That is not allowed. Do you want to finish the food that is in front of you? Don’t even think about it. Servers are there to clear your plate before you have even finished. The food that was served had very small portion sizes, was poorly prepared, and generally not well executed. Skip this place.

Lovely restaurant. The first thing we noticed was how nice and quiet it is; great for conversation and getting harder and harder to find these days. The setting is lovely as well. We had 5 tapas, all of which were very good and the red snapper crudo was particularly good. The sangria was also very nice, though we should have gotten glasses instead of a carafe, which was a little too much. Unfortunately we were not able to try the dessert as the 5 dishes were a bit too much. Next time, we'll go for four.

This is a terrific Spanish restaurant in a horrible location inside a somewhat tacky but new Times Square hotel. Both the tapas and paella were terrific, which is too bad, because the location is not one to lure you in to what is otherwise some of the best Spanish food in the City. But if you are in the area, definitely worth a trip.

We were expecting something different, more formal for our pre-theater lunch. This was a casual hotel restaurant, with not great lighting, we should have sat in front at the bar tables. Staff was very nice, but it was not a polished experience (no one offered to take our coats, we were offered an uncomfortable table when there were many open spaces). We shared 4 small plates and they were good, not traditional Spanish tapas though. Good wine selections. We would probably not return just because there are so many other better options.

We all ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. We ate fried artichokes, garlic chicken, crema catalana , and custard tart. The presentation and taste were outstanding. The service was impeccable. This is an intimate space near the hotel lobby, but the noise level was low. This was a great dining experience and a return trip will be worthwhile.
