Ortzi by Jose Garces
Excellent food and service
Easily one of the best meals and overall dining experiences we’ve ever had. Food quality, service, everything. The wine pairing option was worth every penny and really enhanced the experience!
We celebrated some birthdays as a family a table of 8. We shared several plates, bottles of wine and dessert. It was a great night! The menu had great variety. Some of my favorites were the Pulpo- octopus, the Jarmon croquettes you really can never go wrong ordering these!!, the septa’s- wild mushrooms, bisteca - hanger steak. Atun- tuna. These were my favorite. Well seasoned. Cooked to perfection. Especially the pulpo.- which is hard to get right. We also enjoyed the tortilla, gambas, cochinillo, and a salad. The grapefruit gin and tonic was so good I had two! So fragrant!! We will definitely make it back.
Great pre theater menu and waitress was very aware of our time constraint with seeing a show. We will return!
Had a 5pm reservation and got there 30 minutes late. They squeezed us in so graciously, they were busy but still found a way to make it work. The service was impeccable, the food was amazing, and the cocktails were crafty and delicious. Five stars all around!
Went to try out a new place for NYC Restaurant Week. It was fantastic. The appetizers, the drinks, the entree and the desserts were all delicious. We will definitely be going back to Ortzi.
Very nice tapas and seafood paella is delicious. Don't let the location near Times Square fool you into thinking 'tourist trap', the food is good
Fabulous birthday night out.
Wonderful in every respect.
We were treated royally by Rafael and the entire crew!
We went for Restaurant Week. The service was good. Only had to ask twice for sweetener for my tea, but when I did get it, they brought me simple syrup as I had requested. Perfection!
The food was yummy all round. I highly recommend the risotto.
Although a bit loud for me, my main gripe is those bloody high chairs. I'm not a toddler. I like to put my feet on the ground. Although you could request a different time to get standard seating, that was all that was available at our reservation time.
All In all, we would probably go back again for the prefixe or the after theatre specials sometime.
We dined at Ortzi during Restaurant Week and so had a prix fixe meal, which was quite exquisite. While I couldn't help but peak at the regular menu and wonder 'maybe I should just do that,' the prix fixe selections were ample and we left the restaurant completely satisfied. From the Serrano ham an manchego cheese appetizer to the Branzino over orzo with calimari and mussels, every dish was very flavorful. The mushroom paella was a knockout. I was suspect ... mushroom paella? ... but wow, the mushrooms had an amazing roast flavor that was out of this world. Sad story: We asked to take the leftovers home but they never came back to the table and we walked out without them! The flan. I'm not a flan fan (say that 10 times fast) but I could eat this flan every day of the week.
Incredible meal! Everything was great from the warm welcome to the attentive service and delicious food. Random decision to have dinner with a friend visiting- I will DEFINITELY be going back for more meals. We took advantage of the nyc restaurant week pre-fixe and left with full bellies, and a little tipsy from the craft cocktails. Highly recommend!!
First time at Ortiz during NYC restaurant week and like it a lot. I’ll be back for sure to try the regular menu
The food was delicious and portion sizes generous. The service also was great. The decor is nice, but the dining room is very small and the tables are close together. In addition, the noise level makes conversation difficult.
Had a 1:30 business lunch there on a Friday afternoon. It was not too busy and it was perfect for conversations. We ordered food from both the regular menu and the restaurant week menu, and all were delicious. We were all very happy with the service.
Great modern Spanish food — the ambiance felt like a trendy Madrid restaurant- a welcome change to the boring places in Times Square area. Good service (manager there helping deliver dishes — very attentive).
I dined with two other people, one of which returned the next day, as the meal was delicious. This was my first visit and it will not be my last. We dined during Restaurant Week and even though the selections were limited, they were excellent and the choices were a great example of the quality of the overall menu. The service was excellent and the wine and cocktail selections were very good, with prices in line to other NYC restaurants of this caliber.
Really enjoyed the share plates. Nice lively atmosphere without out there noise levels.
My friend and I attended during Restaurant Week Lovely ambiance, great menu selection along with yummy complimentary bites from the chef. Server was very helpful! Overall amazing experience - will definitely return!
I like this place. Convenient and reliable for a good lunch.
Restaurant week menu was amazing and vegetarian friendly!
Took advantage of restaurant week and will definitely come back to sample the regular menu. Food was inventive, fresh and delicious. Extensive wine list. Service could have been a tiny bit more attentive, but overall was fine.
I have been to Ortzi 4 or 5 times and every time the food is exceptional, the service is great, and the ambiance is wonderful. I rarely write reviews (I think this may even be my first), but I felt compelled to thank you for a consistently wonderful experience.
Exceptional chorizo and cheese platter.
Great service, everyone was very accommodating and helpful. However amount of food and quality does not match the very high price
Great food and cool vibe but portion could be a bit larger my opinion
Food is excellent. We went during restaurant week. Service was attentive and above expectations.
I was delighted to find this restaurant for pre-theater dining! It is usually so hard to find a decent and quiet place to eat in this part of the city. It was a lovely oasis! I went with my two sisters, and we shared one seafood paella (recommended for 2) plus a few side vegetable dishes and it was just the right amount of food for the three of us.
The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I would go back again!
This was truly one of the best meals we’ve had in a while. Food was familiar but creative and everything seasoned to perfection. Service was impeccable. I can’t say enough about this place. Don’t fall into trap that the restaurant isn’t good because of other chefs restaurant closings. We’re hoping this place stays in business for decades to come! We’ll be back. This is quintessential NYC dining.
Outstanding quality food and service
Excellent food and service!
It was hard to decide what to choose from the menu because everything sounded so delicious. I finally chose potato omelet and a vegetable casserole and they were outstanding. Dessert ----- iced crushed cherries with icecream and thin slices of marinated pears ----- was also exquisite. Service and ambience were also excellent. I highly recommend Ortzi!
Très bon plats excellent service impeccable top
Service was very good.
Fantastic food and service
Did not enjoy
In town again to see a show and this is one of our favorite spots in NYC! We love the Garces Restaurants and this one never disappoints! They take such good care of you, you’ll feel like a celebrity! They even comped one of our appetizers for being repeat customers. Fantastic food, superior service. A winner for myself, my husband and our daughters, ages 10 and 14.
Everything was excellent. It was our second time here and it was even better than the first time. The service, food, cocktails and atmosphere were perfect. Do not skip dessert!
Great service great food great time. What more can you ask for.
Nos acomodaron a 5 personas en una mesa de 4. Es muy caro. La tortilla de patatas estaba seca. Todo parecido con una cocina vasca o española, es por pura coincidencia. No volvere jamas. Raciones escasas. Mala relacion calidad / precio. No tienen ni pan
Good food & drinks. Pleasant ambiance. A little testy about where we could sit event though it's small, it was late and there were plenty of free tables.
