Ortzi by Jose Garces
Excellent service and food. Lovely presentation and good ambience. We went there for dinner before the theater and the staff was very aware of getting us out at the right time which we appreciated. Over all very very pleasant evening.
I love everything about Ortzi. The food is delicious, the staff is lovely, and it's not too noisy.
I have never been disappointed, so there is not much more that I can say, except go and enjoy.
I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance of the restaurant and will make another reservation for next month. However, I came from the theater and was returning to the theater for the 2nd part of a play. The restaurant was not opened yet so I went to the bathroom. It was not really clean, and that was my first impression. I understand it is also in a hotel but there were about 15 weary travels taking up the seating area with all the luggage. It seemed sloppy.
Had drinks and tapas with friends on Labor Day weekend. Lovely gin & tonic Pepino.
A Spanish inspired GEM in Luma Hotel near Bryant Park...we really thought it was exceptional and would inspire us to definitely stay at Luma Hotel in the future. Amazing flavors and quality ingredients
In every dish...:)
The food was DELICIOUS!!! fresh seafood, spectacular foie gras and paella to-die-for! Excellent service! New fave
The food was outstanding. We were at another Spanish place the night before, and I thought Ortzi blew that one out of the water. Had the octopus (smoky, sweet), the branzino (tender), the meatballs, the tuna (delicious), the lettuces (very fresh). The service, however, was abysmal. The staff was very attentive to my allergies, but our waiter was incredibly slow, and it was 5:45 so the restaurant was nearly empty. We didn't get our drinks until more than a half hour after sitting down, about 20 minutes after ordering them. We were not given an amuse or bread, as the diners surrounding us had. Two dishes actually came to our table before the drinks. The food came out pretty smoothly, except for that one dish we ordered never came at all, and we didn't have time to re-order because we had a show to get to. Good food, awful server.
Pricy but oh so delicious! Very accommodating with allergies. I will definitely come back for a nice night out.
Conveniently located in the heart of Bryant Park, our out-of-town guests really enjoyed the wine and tapas, as did we.
Service was impeccable, and while I was initially hesitant of this being a “hotel restaurant,” that was not the case at all. The relaxed setting and warm service made our dining experience all the more enjoyable.
Had the restaurant week special and shared. Everything was good and presented well with good service. We both were very pleased
Our food and gin drinks were very good. We didn’t care too much for the space, it truly is a hotel restaurant, so it didn’t lend much to our celebration of a special occasion.
Excellent, flavorful food. Creative chef. During Restaurant Week, the price fixe menu is an excellent value. The restaurant is a bit noisy -- not the place for quiet conversation. But the food is fabulous. Our favorites were the branzino and the pulpo.
I am a HUGE FAN of the FOOD NETWORK CHANNEL and all the cooking shows that appear. So it was no surprise that I would want to dine at Iron Chef, Jose Garces' restaurant since I have eaten at Butter - Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli's restaurant and at several of Iron Chef Bobby Flay's venues as well.
We ordered the pork belly skewers, the fried eggplant and meatballs as the appetizers. All were equally good, however could have done without the eggplant. Our main entrees were, hanger steak and branzino. Both were prepared and seasoned well. Would definitely go back.
Wilma, our waitress was very kind and attentive, just the way I like to be treated when dining on good food. This is a must RETURN spot for me.
Seating is comfortable as tables are not too close which is a plus for conversation especially in NYC. Quality and taste of the tapas are good although I would like to see more varieties on the menu. It is also a little bit pricier than other Spanish tapas restaurants, maybe because of the location and in the hotel. Services are good and kitchen staffs did a good job in delivering plates without long waiting. Will come back for sure.
I worked from the restaurant week menu which had wonderful choices - the watermelon gazpacho and roasted chicken breast (very garlicy - yum) with pasta and a flan tart were wonderful and very satisfying. My colleagues both enjoyed their choices as well. Highly recommend and very glad we were able to find a more quiet corner in restaurant as the bar area was quite loud.
The staff was wonderful. The food fresh and tasty
I had a lovely time at Ortzi. Attended for restaurant week and was very impressed. Each dish was superb and had a great blend of tastes. Would definitely come back and try out some of the different tapas I didn't get a chance to.
Food was very good; especially liked the Baccalao paella, which had never seen before on any restaurant menu. Service was not great; initial waiter was not attentive, others including the maitre d' had to pick up the slack. There was a minor incident with leftovers that we asked to have wrapped being inadvertently thrown out, but they made it right by preparing another entree for us to take home, no additional charge. Cocktail menu was also interesting and they were well made, however, bar area is very small; ended up sitting in seating near hotel elevators while waiting for friends.
This was my first time for breakfast and was thoroughly impressed. Besides the nice ambiance at this small restaurant. What got me was what seemed as an ordinary menu for breakfast, their version of the eggs Benedict was the best I had with a unique flavor to the sauce that is typical to this dish. I shared this breakfast with my guest with the French toast which as excellent. Highly recommend at what is a reasonable price for a higher end restaurant
My friend and I enjoyed cocktails and tapas before a Wednesday theatre matinee. The food was very flavorful and well presented. The lunch menu is fairly limited but I look forward to returning for a dinner experience.
Our server Melita was simply amazing - she made our experience really wonderful. The food was fantastic, the ambiance was perfect. Will come again!
It was my third visit and it was fantastic! Never disappointed with the food and amazing service by everyone!
Wonderful wait staff especially our server. The experience was good. Worth the walk off the usual streets.
We were the last reservation of the night so the place was empty. The stall was awesome treated us like we owned the place. Food was delicious.
Tonight, my colleague and I had the 4-course tasting menu at Ortzi. The term tasting menu was an absolutely LIE. I called it a LIE for a number of reasons. First, there were 2 appetizers, 3 tapas for first course, 2 mains with a side and 2 desserts. Second the portions were the same size as a la carte menu. Third, the favour of the food was so robust. The appetizers were marinated tuna belly and snapper tartare. Both were very good but the lemon cream and the slightly oily snappers matched so well that I could have eaten another portion. The 3 tapas included smoked cured pork fat on bread, pork meat balls and crispy garlic shrimp. I especially enjoyed the cured fat on bread and the crispy garlic. If our server did not tell me it was fat, I would not be able to tell. It was smoky with a unique texture that any description would do no justice to the uniqueness of this dish. More importantly, it was totally NOT fatty at all. The crispy garlic slices were fried so well that they were crunchy and sweet which totally elevated the shrimps. I personally thought the garlic was the centre of this tapas. When it came to the paella, the crunchy rice on top of the paella rice added a unique texture to the whole dish. The seafood broth that was used to cook the paella was just delicious. Small chunks of calamari and fish with plenty of mussels, clams and shrimp. The portion could have easily fed 3-4 people especially with the portions of the other dishes. The grilled steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare with just salt and olive oil. The shishito peppers were fried without being oily. The acidity of the peppers cut down on the richness of the steak. The side was butter bean, fava beans with small cubes of toasted bread and cheese was a great addition. The desserts were egg flan and chocolate puff with chocolate and passion fruit filling and they were of normal European size and were not overtly sweet. At the end, we were so full.
We’ve had a positive experience with José Garces’s restaurant in Washington DC that we wanted to give Ortzi a try. An experience that did not disappoint, we truly enjoyed our meal and will definitely come back to try the rest of the tapas in the menu. Our table opted for the Restaurant Week menu and enjoyed appetizers of Pork belly skewers and fried eggplant. We each tried the chicken, branzino and hangar steak for the main entree and for dessert had the custard tart and cream puff. Service was great and our server was personable. Would love the get my girlfriends together for a night out in the city.
Our meals were outstandingly delicious!. We both ordered the watermelon gazpacho soup and the branzino from the restaurant week menu. All just great. Our server helped me pick out a glass of wine that was perfect. At one point a member of the wait staff noticed us looking for something on the floor and quickly brought a new napkin to the table before we even asked. All the wait staff was crackerjack and solicitous. The pace of the meal was excellent, with our plates being removed at the same time even though one of us had finished first. Menu descriptions of the desserts didn’t give us a clue as to how wonderful they would be. Oh my!
Most restaurants today seem to exceed my preferred level of noise and Ortzi’s was low when we entered at 6 pm and moderate by the time we left at 7:40. Wonderful for a pre theatre dining experience.
I decided to give this restaurant a try based on the good reviews. The service was great - our server was friendly and attentive and the restaurant was clean. However, the food was a really big disappointment. The appetizers were nice looking but the taste was mediocre to say the least. The worst was the seafood paella which was the worst paella I have ever had - tasteless, buttery, and made me feel sick for the rest of the evening.
Excellent experience, tasty food, good service
Ortiz is a very modern beautifully laid out midtown Manhattan destination. For modern Latino food with a little flair this will do.
Incredible food, delicious cocktails. Great ambiance. Amazing customer service. A great addition to Bryant Park area!
It was great. I will continue to go back and recommend this place.
Great price fixe!
Bikini sandwich was good. We ordered the Prix fixed menu lunch and the first course came out quite quickly. But, there was an inordinate amount of time between that course and delivery of the second course. Long wait on that second course. But, this guy’s food was very good and well priced.
The tapas and main courses were excellent. Service was friendly and efficient. Wine choices were very good.
Wonderful midtown restaurant. Great for pre-theater/concert/show. Very sensitive to allergies and explaining the ingredients within the dishes on the menu. Expediter also clear to servers about issues. The food was authentic and delicious.
It is not fabulous but there are some good things too. The service was good and the menu varied. If your in the area it could be an interesting pick.
Had pre-theater price-fix; decent value for NYC. Waitress was attentive, asked about allergies. Every single bite of food was delicious from bread & gazpacho through dessert. Will go back to taste other items not on price fix.
Exceptional service, excellent food. We tried the tasting menu with the wine pairing and it was definitely worth the price tag. We were greeted with champagne and overall just had a magnificent pre-show dinner. Highly recommend this place!
