Great food. Wonderful atmosphere. Host, busser and manager were very friendly. However, our waitress was completely MIA for most of the meal. She never came back to check on us until we were all done. We ended up ordering a 2nd round of drinks from the bar.
What a wonderful place, from the food, to the staff, to the ambience... WOW
Brian was awesome!
Ortegas NEVER disappoints! We drive 45 minutes each way just to enjoy a meal there! Gotta have the french toast! BEST Lobster special North of the border! Horchata is delish! The salsa & tableside guacamole are always a hit and so is the queso fundido! Great for breakfast lunch brunch or dinner!! We love Ortegas they have great food & service and are SO glad we found this gem and know we will be going there pretty much forever!!
Outstanding restaurant and service. Carnitas harsh and French toast are a must try for brunch!!
Went here for Easter Brunch/ combined birthday celebration with my brother + my family; we were seated quickly since we had reservations, but the service was a bit slow even though the place was not all that packed, as we were 'early' compared to the regular Sunday brunch crowd.
Food was good, filling and my husband loved his dish. My shrimp omelette was good and differently prepared but not as flavorful; perhaps should have chosen a different selection. Loved their salsa & chips.
But will give the place a try again when back in San Diego visiting family.
Everything was great - Food, service, margaritas! Our only surprise was how expensive everything was. Luckily, we had a giftcard so we were able to really enjoy this new place for us! If we ever get a giftcard again, we will definitely be back!
I went here on a Saturday evening, at about 7:00 pm for my 29th birthday dinner. It was the perfect spot - I wanted a place with a cool, engaging, and aesthetically appealing ambiance, but a place that wasn't extremely loud. I was gathering with girlfriends, and wanted us to have an opportunity to catch up, talk, laugh - and be able to hear one another. We had no problems in this arena. All seemed to enjoy the cocktails and food as well! This was my second time here and the food was absolutely amazing on my first visit. This time around, nothing changed about the high quality and rich ingredients - but I just didn't choose the right dish for my taste buds.
I highly suggest this restaurant!
The food was amazing. You could tell everything was fresh and scratch made. The beans were amazing, as well as the guacamole (made right at your table). Our server, Roy was amazing as well. Just wish I lived in San Diego so I could eat here more!
Awesome attentive service. The lobster, their signature dish, was tough, surprisingly overcooked. Tasty margaritas.
We love love love going to Ortega's and introduced an entire new group of friends to the delicious fare. The only suggestion I would have is for the cooks to be wary of how long they cook the lobster for. A few minutes over cooked can result in an unpleasant chewy mess. But we still love it and will be back next week.
The service was excellent but the food was insipid at best. Even the simplest of food was poorly prepared, e. g. the tortillas were dry, hard and tasteless. The coffee and desert was acceptable.
$2 margarita special in Tuesdays! Great deal, large entrees and delicious tableside guacamole
Last time we had a good time, this time, not so much. The waiter was rude, the food cold and over priced.
Always enjoy Happy hour & delicious food when we come for any celebration. Also have recommended friends
It was totally disappointing compared to our previous visit several years ago. We thought we'd return for lobster dinner as we had enjoyed in the past. It was not busy as there were maybe four couples in the dining room. It took over 25 minutes before our drinks were served and over 40 mi utes before our lobsters were served. The lobsters were under cooked making cutting. It with the dull flat ware knife a workout. When lobsters are cooked, the shell should be red/orange. These shells were primarily brown. Waitress asked she could get something else. I asked for a glass of water. It never came. Two lobster dinners, 1 ice tea, 1 cocktail...$98. Not bad if the food was done and if service was good. Had neither. Manager advised of our experience.
Visiting from New York, have been here a few years ago and it is still as good as it ever was. Fish tacos, fresh guacamole, margaritas were all fabulous! Great attentive service
Excellent service! Excellent food! We will definitely plan on returning. Great alternative to Puerto Nuevo!
Been here quite a few times over the years. Prices have seemed to have gone up, and they were kind of high before. Food is good but not good enough in relation to the price. Had the carne asada burrito and the beef was overcooked. My husband had the chicken enchilada thing and the chicken was mediocre at best. Margarita was weak, and I'm a light-weight. Waiter was good though.
We went for lunch New Year's eve, had the lobster- which was excellent and not TOO pricey! Server was helpful and nice.
Menu is creative. Chips are great. The price is relatively high. The food was prepared well but quite salty. Parking i the area is generally quite challenging.
Great value... we drive from Orange County for the lobster
It’s great... and nice place
The food was excellent and the service exceptional!!!
Took my parents here for dinner last night. The restaurant had relatively high reviews so we were excited. We had reservations yet 5 people walked by saying someone would be with us shortly yet it was 10 minutes. It smelled like a fishing dock inside, which was very off putting. I wasn’t impressed by the food, service or ambiance. Needless to say, we won’t be back.
My wife and I took our kids here for a family meal because my son was visiting from out of state. This is a great place to relax and enjoy some truly authentic home made Mexican food. From the first bite you can tell everything is freshly made and that includes the chips and the hand made guacamole. The server will prepare the guacamole right at your table, and man is it good. I highly recommend this place and will go back soon.
We're visiting from LA... wanted Lobster but we went to the Lycium Theater so we had 9:30 res on a Sunday... the place looked like it was closed... but they were WONDERFUL!!! Very nice and so understanding... we had the lobster feast!!! YUMMMMMMMM EEEEEEEE it was totally what we wanted and was grateful that they didn't make us feel like we were putting them out at all.. completely opposite!!! Nice staff
So "thank you guys"!!! It made us Huge huge HUGE!!! Fans
I don’t know what they put in the food but we many visits to the bathroom
The experience was fun, delicious and an all around great experience!
The food is excellent and seems to be adjusted seasonally.
Came here to catch up with someone I hadn't seen in many many years, so I wanted a reasonably quiet place for conversation. Came earlier than our reservations and sat at a bar table and took advantage of happy hour. Food was great., Margaritas were made with fresh lime, and the service was good as well. The corner of the bar was quiet enough on a Saturday 5-8 that we could easily hear each other, and we decided to stay here for dinner rather than switch to the main dining room. This isn't my first time here. I have been fro weekend brunch, dinner, as well as happy hour. I will definitely come back again.
Great food, was hoping it would be like Puerto Nuevo and it was.
Staff service and attitude could use some improvement but the food more than made up for it. We’ll be back.
The waiter was friendly and ambience was good, but the waiter forgot our guacamole and messed up my friends order. Also my mahi mahi on my salad was very dried out I could barely eat it. Was not enthused with the food at all.
Great good and service. Always enjoy stopping by for brunch when I'm in town
They seated us quickly and our server was wonderful ! ! ! :)
Good experience. Food was good and the service was spectacular.
Menu was not extensive but food was tasty. We ordered the fish tacos and carnitas. The salsa was not my favorite. The service was friendly. Good local establishment.
Went here for friends bday and it was a large group. Great service great food, great atmosphere! Thank you Ortega!
Super delicious food. Lobster was a good or better than Mexico! Delicious dip and soup. We'll be back soon!!!!
Great authentic Mexican food. The Chicken Mole was outstanding. We will definitely return and invite friends and family.
Birthday brunch with friends.
Although the reservation was for 6, 8 people were there. The servers were totally accommodating.
Everyone's food was as expected.
Only problem was the noise
