Designed by partner Jean Denoyer, Orsay strikes that difficult balance of sophisticated-chic in a warm convivial atmosphere. Dark mahogany raised paneled walls meet Art Nouveau styled arches in a deep, creamy butter color. The floor is a work of art, Italian mosaic tiles in warm tones of precious metals hand laid in a beautiful fan pattern that floats in waves across the expanse of floor. Banquettes with high wood backs topped with frosted glass panels provide privacy if wanted, and the low, soft lighting emanates from Art Nouveau period chandeliers that Denoyer had custom designed. A 20-foot long zinc-topped wood bar shipped in one piece from France, and French doors that spill onto the sidewalk terrace, completing the feeling that you are in the 9th arrondisement in Paris. This sophisticated and elegant Parisian-style brasserie marries modern French cuisine and classic brasserie fare. Orsay's award-winning wine list includes all 300 predominantly French and American varietals.

Orsay Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent, but in all honesty I must say that the escargot was not as good as at LeSoir on Long Island. The service was excellent and all personnel very pleasant. The noise level was not so high as to prevent conversation despite the fact that the restaurant was crowded. It was not a bargain, but also not exorbitant. We don’t often come into NYC to eat dinner, but this is good choice when we do.
Been meaning to go to this place for years, and finally remembered to book there when looking for a place for dinner. It did not disappoint.
Went on a Sat night, it was busy, but not mobbed. Food was great, service was excellent desert was out of this world. A great neighborhood spot, I will certainly be back.
Orsay always provides a happy and festive setting . The service is friendly and efficient . The ambiance is inviting and pretty. I always have a fun time there.
My food ( an omelette) was not the best this time though . It was overlooked and too hard . I've had a better one there before so perhaps this was an off day.
But it was a fun lunch anyway.
Upon being seated we mentioned that we wanted a leisurely meal- the server was perfect- not hovering but there when we were ready to order... Skate and Short Rib meals were excellent- alas by 8:00 Orsay was out of canard- my husband's chicken was dry.
Varied prices for wine- excellent selection....
We were a party of 12 for Thanksgiving. First, the menu was wonderful - there was something for everyone + the Turkey lovers. Our waiter was spectacular and as busy as it was, provided service. I loved everything about Orsay and cannot wait to return. This is a keeper on the UES.
Loved dining at Orsay for brunch. Was spending a special weekend in Manhattan with a friend and researched the restaurant on line. Wanted to be on the Upper Eastside on Sunday morning, and we couldn’t have been happier. Great Eggs Benedict and wonderful selection of food, professional polite service, fantastic ambience. Worth going - all the way from Seattle.
Love Orsay. Feels like Paris in NYC or as close as you can get. Fabulous French Classics like Escargot, Frisee Lardon, Steak Frites, Moules, but wonderul Oysters, Salmon and the best Daily specials. Love the staff. Highly recommend. Upper Eastside neighborhood gem.
I love Orsay as it always feel special to dine there. This time I enjoyed the salmon tartare Japonais and it was delicious. Their famous cheese souffle on the other hand seemed a bit over done and a bit dry inside and the outside was quite leathery and unappetizing to me. I am sure this was just an oversight and I will order it again sometime again I'm sure. I highly reccommend this restaurant for its food and excellent service.
