Designed by partner Jean Denoyer, Orsay strikes that difficult balance of sophisticated-chic in a warm convivial atmosphere. Dark mahogany raised paneled walls meet Art Nouveau styled arches in a deep, creamy butter color. The floor is a work of art, Italian mosaic tiles in warm tones of precious metals hand laid in a beautiful fan pattern that floats in waves across the expanse of floor. Banquettes with high wood backs topped with frosted glass panels provide privacy if wanted, and the low, soft lighting emanates from Art Nouveau period chandeliers that Denoyer had custom designed. A 20-foot long zinc-topped wood bar shipped in one piece from France, and French doors that spill onto the sidewalk terrace, completing the feeling that you are in the 9th arrondisement in Paris. This sophisticated and elegant Parisian-style brasserie marries modern French cuisine and classic brasserie fare. Orsay's award-winning wine list includes all 300 predominantly French and American varietals.

Orsay Ratings and Reviews
The food was divine! We had raw bar to start and it was delectable. I think the restaurant is a little tired and needs some renovations or even just a "sprucing up." I have been going there for years. The wait staff was attentive but I had to call him over a couple of times and they forgot a couple of items we ordered. But overall the experience was very good.
I had not been to Orsay in a while. We have held Christening parties and rehearsal dinners here, so I was really looking forward to Sunday lunch with my daughter and 12 year old grandson. It was a grey day so we elected to sit on the enclosed terrace. Due to fear of cold there were very obnoxious heaters blowing dry air in our faces. My daughter finally got them to turn off the one blowing on our table. We were told we would be cold. We were not and it was much better. I ordered the Croque Monsieur. It as on a thick slab of bread. Terrible. My grandson ordered waffles which turned out to be one waffle which appeared to have come from a box of frozen waffles. Daughter had Poulet Payard followed by Mousse au Chocolat which was as we remembered. Excellent espresso happy to say. Service was very good to excellent. Prices over the top, especially for what we had which was not special.
The food is very good. We had the steak tartare, croque monsieur, and fries. Dessert was creme brulee, which had a citrus flavor, and chocolate mousse w creme anglaise. Authentic, rich french food. Our waitress was cold, aloof, snobby, unfriendly and laconic. It's expensive, but I didn't expect any different. We sat on the patio and people watched
Reserved in advance for dinner party, seated at the bar side... no table cloth, loud and busy traffic! Not so nice for a birthday celebration. Service was friendly. Overall very casual feel. Food was okay. $60-$70 bottle wine was terrible.
Had better experience for brunch in the main dining room.
My girlfriend and I were seated last even though we arrived first in line. We thought the host was very disorganized. The restaurant week meal was not too enjoyable but the waitress was sincere. Our dessert order was mixed up. We have been here before so we were disappointed by a sub-par experience.
Very good food, but not excellent.
One of three dinners was totally incorrect, and the ordered one did not arrive until the other two finished eating.
No compensation offered for botched meal.
Uneven service - sometimes excellent, sometimes non-existent.
I will not eat there again!
Beautiful restaurant. Tile work on floors is stunning to look at. Greeted right away and sat earlier than reservations called for. Service was great, waiters all have this funny way of making you chose what to eat and have fun with you. For the food, it was incredible. You tasted every little detail put into the food, and to top it off, the deserts are other worldly. I’m a young guy; 22, and i did this for restaurant week, so it wouldn’t kill my pocket but at the same time bring people i love to it and know the meal would be phenomenal. Would for sure come again!
We enjoyed a nice dinner with excellent service. The French cuisine was excellent. The wine was tasty and affordable. Our waiter was top notch - no detail went unnoticed - he stopped by to wish us well on a personal level. We left very satisfied to say the least.
Absolutely wonderful the Tuna Tartare was the best ever. I went on a Wednesday for the Prime rib and they cut it at your table. Perfect. The sides , potatoes and spinach so delicious. My dessert Pannacotta so smooth and the berry sauce perfect not too sweet. I loved my Red wine by the glass; Cote De Blaye a great suggestion. Everyone was soooo pleasant. I can’t wait to return. Every day they have a special entree. I must , I will try everything.
This was my first visit with their new menu. The food was simply delicious and the menu has many appealing options. We were fortunate to be there on a night that was not very busy so the noise level was acceptable. The monkfish in a tomato curry sauce is delectable. Grand Marnier crepes a nice finish to the meal. Wines by the glass can be pricey but excellent.
Orsay is dependably very good-excellent in service, food, atmosphere, and value. It is quiet enough to have a good conversation, a rarity in typically more crowded New York restaurants. On this particular occasion, the maitre d' went above and beyond. Another guest had taken (was given?) my umbrella. As it was pouring rain outside, he gave me his own umbrella to use. Well done!
